OLLIE DINE PERKINS SALTZMAN

Mrs. Ollie Dine Perkins Saltzman, a Posey county pioneer who in 1899 made an 11 day, covered wagon trip to Dexter, Mo., with her family, died Sunday (30 Oct 1955) night in Dexter.

Mrs. Saltzman's death occurred on her 88th birthday and followed by 10 days after which she had broken a hip.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday there.  Morris Aldrich, Mt. Vernon, a nephew of the deceased, and his wife plan to attend the rites.  Other local relatives may also go to Dexter for the funeral.

The late deceased and her husband, Henry Saltzman, also of an early Posey family, resided at Stringtown on the Mt. Vernon - New Harmony road south of Benton's machine shop prior to their departure for Missouri.  Mr. Saltzman died two years ago at the age of 86, his death severing marital bonds of 66 years.

Surviving Mrs. Saltzman are a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Randolph, Hammond, Ind., a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great greatgrandchildren; a half-sister, Mrs. Thomas Mills, and a half brother, Ira Perkins, both of the Mt. Vernon vicinity.

Mrs. Saltzman was a daughter of James Wesley Perkins and Mary Ann York Perkins.

She and her late husband were married Oct 11, 1888 and continued their residence in Posey county until their migration to the West over open land and streams in May of 1899.

They resided on a Missouri farm until advanced years forced their retirement and then moved to Dexter.
