Eugene H. Russell, a pioneer in Posey county
and Indiana mutual insurance and a "good
neighbor" of the Farmersville vicinity where he resided most of his life,
died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday (26 Feb 1953)
in the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He would have been 77 years old
on the coming March 18.
For 33 years, Mr. Russell was secretary of the Posey County Mutual
Life Insurance Co., resigning Jan 1, 1951 when his health failed. During man
years of that period he was an active member and a director of the Mutual
Insurance Companies Union of Indiana. Three sons and a daughter followed
him in the insurance field.
Ill of a complication of diseases, he had
been in a coma for the last week in the Evansville hospital as the result of uremic poisoning.
The body is at the Weisinger Funeral
Home in Mt. Vernon where it will remain through the funeral
service set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Weisinger chapel.
Rev. Arthur Blackburn, a retired General Baptist Church minister and a close friend of the
deceased for many years will be the officiating clergyman. Burial will be
in Bellefontaine cemetery.
Mr. Russell
attended Bethel Primitive Baptist Church at Farmersville but was not a member.
His only fraternal affiliation was with Farmersville, camp No. 13130 Modern Woodmen of America. He had been a member of
Farmersville camp for over 50 years and held many offices in the camp.
His wife, nee Essie Allyn,
died in 1937.
