WILLIAM H RAIRDON

William H. Rairdon, 76, whose genial personality and long years of industry and integrity had endeared him to his native Mt. Vernon, died very suddenly at 12:05 o'clock this morning in Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital in Evansville.

For 40 years Mr. Rairdon was a miller employed by the former Home Mill & Grain Co.  Since the first of 1956 he had been assistant parking meter patrolman in Mt. Vernon.

the deceased was on duty Monday and Tuesday as meter patrolman and picked up his pay check at the city building yesterday afternoon.  He had complained of shortness of breath but was not believed to be seriously ill.  When his conditioned worsened rapidly last night at his home at 206 W. Tenth street, he was removed by ambulance to the Evansville hospital where he died 15 minutes after arrival.

Mr. Rairdon had been very active in Mt. Vernon lodge, No. 49, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Washington encampment, No. 19, I.O.O.F.  He was a past grand of Mt. Vernon lodge, a past chief patriarch and junior warden-elect of the encampment and a past district deputy chief of patriarch of the encampment.  He was also a member of the Police League of Indiana.

The body is at Weisinger Funeral Home.  Rev. August E. Binder, pastor of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church, which Mr. Rairdon attended but was not a member of, will conduct the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Weisinger chapel.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery and Odd Fellows will conduct graveside rites.

Surviving are the wife, nee Cora Holmes, whose marriage to Mr. Rairdon occurred 54 years ago the coming month; a son, Clarence, Evansville, and an aunt, Miss Violet Doyle, Mt. Vernon.  Parents of the deceased were John Rairdon and Minnie Doyle Rairdon.
