Mrs. Bessie D. Rainey, 81, of 631 E. Fourth street, widow of James Rainey and a resident of
Mt. Vernon for 25 years, died at 6:30 a.m. today at the home of her son, Leroy
Rainey, 628 East Sixth street.
The husband died in March, 1942, while residing in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Rainey had been ill for a year and seriously sick the last
two weeks.
The deceased was a native of Illinois, born near Elizabethtown in Hardin county,
a daughter of Robert Thompson and Sara Lane Thompson. She and her family
moved to Mt. Vernon in 1932 and she had made many friends
during her quarter of a century local residence.
Mrs. Rainey was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of the Nazarene. She was the head
of five generation.
The body is at Weisinger Funeral Home
where friends may call after 8 o'clock this evening. The body will lie in
state at the Church of the Nazarene from 1 to 1 p.m. Sunday following which Rev. Samuel K.
Childress, pastor of the church, will conduct the funeral service. Burial
will be in Union Ridge cemetery near New Haven, Ill.
Surviving are
two sons, Leroy Rainey, Mt. Vernon, and Dennis Mangrum,
Columbia, Tenn; a stepson, Horace Rainey, Evansville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Huey Hughes, Evansville; 11 grandchildren, 23 great -g randchildren and one great great
grandchild.
