Loren Rachels, 68, Dies in Hospital

Loren Rachels, widely-known resident of Griffin, died at 6pm Tuesday shortly after being admitted to
Deaconess hospital. Funeral services will be held
today (Thursday) at 2 pm at the First Christian Church, Griffin, with the pastor Rev. John Shepard,
officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military rites conducted at the
graveside by New Harmony American Legion Post No. 370. Complications of chronic
asthma were fatal.
Mr. Rachels, who was 68, had been in
failing health for several years. A native of Posey county,
he spent most of his life here, except from 1936 to 1945 when he operated a
grocery store in Evansville. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the New
Harmony American Legion post.
The deceased's parents were Calvin (Tad) Rachels
and Olive Jane Franklin Rachels.
Surviving are
the wife, Fannie; a son, Billy Gene, Evansville; two brothers, Charles, Griffin and John, New Harmony, and a sister Dulcie,
of Griffin.
