Mr. Peerman began his regular service as a rural mail carrier
on Mt. Vernon Rural Route 5 in Point township and was employed on the same
route at the time of his death. However, he had served other routes in the
meantime. When he began his postal duties rural Route 5 was served by the post
office at Hovey and it was there that Mr. Peerman picked up his mail for delivery in a horse and
buggy. He had even delivered mail on horseback and during floods by rowboat.
His even temper and his kind disposition endeared him to the families he served
so capably and so long as a government employee.
