Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon for James G. Newman, 74, a respected resident of Mt. Vernon for 42 years who died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday (22 Oct 1955) at his home at 619 West Fifth street.

 

A chronic heart ailment that had produced a number of severe attacks in the last year was fatal.

 

The body is at the Weisinger Funeral Home where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Rev. Ernest E. Hopper, minister of Church of the Nazarene, will be the officiating clergyman.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

 

Surviving are the wife, Pearl M. Newman; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Nash, Popular Bluff, Mo; and Mrs. Daisy Murphy, Vincennes, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.

 

The deceased was a native of Fort Branch, In., the son of Allen Newman and Susie Chapman Newman.  He came to Mt. Vernon in 1913.

 

For virtually all his residence in Mt. Vernon he was employed as a grinder by a local handle factories, in recent years by Madden Handle Corporation.
