Mrs. Edith Mackey Newman, 45, wife of Durand C. Newman, died
suddenly this morning at her home in Greenfield, IN.
She had spent the past week in Mt. Vernon with a cousin, Mrs. Woodson Austin, and
family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Wednesday at Pasco Memorial Mortuary in Greenfield. Friends may call at the mortuary after 7 pm Tuesday.
Born in Posey Co., the deceased was a daughter of the late Mary Conlin Mackey and William Mackey, representatives of early
prominent Point Township families. During residence here, she
attended Trinity (Evangelical) United Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Welborn Memorial School in Evansville and Indiana University School of Nursing
and was a member of the Indiana State Nurses Association.
Surviving in addition to the husband are a step-daughter, Mrs.
Edward Shively, and five step-grandchildren, of Greenfield, and a brother, Capt. (US Army ret.) Charles Mackey of Indianapolis. Mrs. Dorothy Summers and Mrs. Frank
Edwards of Indianapolis are other cousins.
