NEW HARMONY - Truman G. Morton, 76, of Poseyville, Ind., died Wednesday,
December 20, 2006,
at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, surrounded by his loving family, after
a long courageous battle with cancer.
Truman was born on November 12, 1930, to Walter and Laura Cox Morton.
He grew up in rural Posey County on his beloved farm where he continued
to help conserve the land and wildlife. He graduated from New Harmony High School in 1949. He soon entered the Army and
was a Korean War veteran serving in the 25th Infantry Division of the 35th
Regiment. He was a lifetime member of Wadesville VFW 6576.
He enjoyed gardening and planting trees. He also enjoyed spending
time with his family and the family pet cat, Sam, and the neighborhood dog,
Jake. He retired from Farm Bureau Oil Co. after 28 years.
Truman is survived by his wife, Agnes; 2 sons and their wives,
Eddie and Gail Morton and Vince and Lisa Morton, all of New Harmony, Ind.; one
grandson, Jon Morton of New Harmony; a sister, Ruby Ransom of Coeur d'Alene,
Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 23,
2006, at Werry Funeral Home, New Harmony Chapel, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery in New Harmony.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. today December 22, at Werry Funeral Home, New Harmony Chapel. Memorial
contributions may be made to Maple Hill Cemetery or to the American Cancer Society.
