MENARD V MILLER

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon for Menard V. Miller, 54, a native of Mt. Vernon and a food market owner operator in Montgomery in Daviess county, Indiana who died late Friday (3 Apr 1953) from an accidentally inflicted gun wound.

Mr. Miller, son of Mrs. Amelia Loehr Miller, Mt. Vernon and the late David Miller of Mt. Vernon, for many years Posey county recorder and deputy recorder, was cleaning his guns at the time of the tragedy.  He had completed cleaning a rifle and apparently had started to clean a shotgun when it was discharged and the charge passed across his neck.

The funeral service was conducted in a Loogootee, Ind funeral home and burial was in a Montgomery cemetery.

Surviving in addition to the mother in Mt. Vernon, are the wife, nee Marie Wonders of Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. James Wilson, Washington, Ind; and Martha Marie Miller, at home; one grandchild, and a brother Edwin D. Miller, Mt. Vernon post office employee.

As a young man the deceased was a bookkeeper in the Derrington Garage and also was employed locally by the S. R. Smith and G. H. Hurley food stores.  He resided in Indianapolis after leaving Mt. Vernon and later operated a farm in Daviess county before purchasing the Montgomery grocery store which he was operating at the time of his death.
