MOUNT VERNON - Dennis Earl Merrick, age 54, passed
away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at his home.
He was born on March 28, 1952, the only child of Huell
Brandon and Mame Frances (Wilson) Merrick in Princeton, Ky.
Dennis is a 1970 graduate of Caldwell County High School and 1978 graduate of Murray State University, where he earned his bachelor's and
master's degrees in chemistry. He had worked as a chemist in Calvert City, Ky. He and his wife moved to Mount Vernon, Ind., in 1984 to take a chemist position at
General Electric Plastics. In 1990, he left G.E. to work at CountryMark
Cooperative, Inc. for 17 years of service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and trustee. He was a member of the American
Chemical Society and Volunteer statistician for the MVSHS Football program.
Dennis was an avid Murray State Racer fan.
He is preceded in death by his father in 2004 and his mother in
2003.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Kimberly Faye (Willie) Merrick;
his two children, Cara Lynn Merrick and Brandon Edward Merrick, all of Mount
Vernon, Ind.; his mother -in-law, Faye Willie, of Kirksey,
Ky., his brother-and sister-in-law, Mark and Mitzie
Willie; his two nephews, Matthew and Ricky Willie, all of Benton, Ky., and
numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., in Mount Vernon, with Rev. Deric
Ousley and Rev. Darrell Eldridge officiating and
burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, and from 9 a.m. to service time on Monday at Schneider
Funeral Home.
