Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon for Jesse
Mercer, 70, who died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday (23 Sep 1953) at his home in the Whipple apartment
building at Third and Main
streets. He had been in failing health for two years and seriously ill
for the last week.
The body is at the Weisinger Funeral
Home and will remain there through the funeral service to be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Weisinger
chapel by Rev. Si Crayne, New Harmony, and Rev. Frank Turner, Mt. Vernon. Burial will be in Greathouse cemetery in Point Township.
Surviving are
the wife, Susan May; three daughters, Mrs. Homer Ricketts, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. William (Bud) Yeida,
R. R. 5 and Miss Jessie Mercer at home; eight sons, Hubert, Damon, Elmer and
Clarence, of Mt Vernon and vicinity. Amos, Litchfield, Ky; Estel, Chicago; Paul,
Driftwood, Pa; and Cpl. Leonard Mercer, U.S. Army stationed in Japan; 40
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Isaac Mercer, Big Clifty, Ky; three half-brothers,
Howard Mercer, R.R. 2; Lloyd Mercer, U. S. Army, stationed in Germany, and Ardel Mercer, R. R. 4, and two half sisters, Mrs. Hunter
Gross, R. R. 5 and Mrs. Sam Bulla, Mt. Vernon
