WALTER L MARSH

Walter L. Marsh, 70, well known Mt. Vernon resident, died at 2:15 o'clock yesterday in St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville.  He had been in failing health for several years and had been seriously ill since May.  He had been removed to the hospital the day previous to his death.

 

The deceased was a native of Crawford county, Pennsylvania.  For 38 years he was employed in the U.S. postal service.  His first employment was in Union City, Pa.  From there he came to the Mt. Vernon post office, serving from 1918  to 1931.  He then transferred to Painesville, Ohio, serving there until 1948 when he retired.  After retirement he moved back to Mt. Vernon and had resided here since.  In recent years he was employed as a salesman at Stinson Brothers Department Store.

 

Mr. Marsh was the son of Bela and Addie Freilegh Marsh.

 

Funeral services are to be held at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Matthew's Catholic Church.  Rev. Linus Hopf, pastor of Holy Angels Church at New Harmony, will officiate.  Interment will be in St. Matthew's cemetery.

 

Near surviving relatives are the wife, Mrs. Lucy Della Jake Marsh; three step-children, Joseph H. Mitchell of Paramount, Calif, and Mrs. Walter M. King and William Mitchell of Mt. Vernon; four brother, Harley Marsh, Columbus, Pa, William L Marsh and Floyd Marsh, of Corry Pa; and  Clifford Marsh of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Towers of Warren, Pa; and Mrs. Henry Simmison of Corry, Pa; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

 

The body is at the Short Niehaus Funeral Home where it will remain until the hour of the funeral.
