Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Mt. Zion General Baptist Church near Oliver and at Mt. Zion cemetery for J. Wilbern
Marse, 70, a retired farmer who died Saturday (3 Sep 1955) afternoon at his home on R. R. 1,
Wadesville.
The body was moved from the Short-Niehaus
Funeral Home to the church shortly before noon Monday and lay in state at the church
until the funeral services which were conducted by Rev. Lawrence Rager, pastor of Howell General Baptist church and former
pastor of Mt. Zion Church. Pallbearers were Jesse Marse, Harry Campbell, William Marse,
Robert Marse, Menzie
Strickland and Sammy Strickland.
Mr. Marse was a member of Mt. Zion Church and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Surviving are his wife, Nora Barton Marse; a
daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Witt, Mt. Vernon; a son, James W. Marse,
Kansas
City, Mo; two grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene
Marse, Harmony township and
Samuel D. Marse, Grayville, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Schaffer, R.
R. 2.
