Lawrence A “Clerk” Lumm, 41 year old

Surviving the late public official are the mother; Mrs. Edith Hanshoe
Lumm,
who resides on the Leonard Lumm Memorial Farm owned
jointly by the
deceased and his brother in law Mr. Taylor; two half sisters, Mrs. Jesse
Lumm,
brother, Willis Wilson, Cap
never married. His father was Leonard Lumm,
October 1955.
Insofar as state and county authorities have been able to ascertain,
there was no witness of the accident. An
unidentified driver of a
Ready Biscuit Bakery Co., truck,
reported at

Rain and snow were falling when authorities reached the scene of the

Since the accident fatality had been receiving medical treatment for
high blood pressure and there was no evident that the brakes of his auto
had been applied. Corner Meinschein decided upon an autopsy which was
performed by Dr. J. E. Crist.

steering post as the cause of death and Coroner Meinschein's
verdict was
accidental death.
The auto had hit the 10 to 12 inch wide, concrete abutment dead center
and the abutment left an impression on the front end of the auto. The
force of the impact drove the motor back about 2 1/2 feet, but it did
not enter the driver's compartment. The
rim of the steering wheel had
been folded down and Lumm had been hurled into the
steering post and
horn button. The auto had halted with
the left wheel 10 to 12 inches on
the pavement.
Following attendance of the basketball tournament the Posey clerk had
visited in the home of James H. Price, former
Sweetser,
The tragedy victim had been prominent in Posey county Democratic
politics since boyhood, achieving part recognition in the Posey county
Young Democrats Club which he served as president. Although elected
twice to a two year term as county treasurer, he actually served five
years as treasurer due to the amendment to the
extending the tenure of the county treasurer's office.
He had been a member of the Posey county Memorial Board of Trustees and
had been active in efforts to secure greater use of memorial coliseum in
undertakings, although at present unrealized was the restoration of
Memorial coliseum swimming pool. He was
a leader in
Posey county civic affairs and an ardent supporter of
school
Other affiliations were with the Toastmasters Club and Posey aerie, No.
1717, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
