OCT 1909
"Mrs. W. E. Harris died Oct. 7th 1909, at 4 o'clock after a lingering sickness of 6 weeks
duration.
Louise Sutton
Harris was born at Burnt Prarie, Ill., Feb. 26, 1868, and in about 1882 moved to New Harmony, in which place she was married to W. E.
Harris in October, 1902, and moved at once here, where she soon endeared
herself to our people, they learned to like her as a true friend and neighbor.
Last winter during the "Ragel" meeting at
the M. E. church she moved her membership here. Taking an interest in the
church she seemed to get closer to the work and never missed a service when she
could help it.
In her death the
church loses a faithful member, the town and honored citizen and the home a
devoted mother and companion. She leaves to mourn her loss besides her
companion and stepson, a mother, 7 sisters and 2 brothers. Her mother is very
sick and has been so for almost a year.
The remains after a short services here Friday evening, were taken to New Harmony to spend the last night on earth with
her mother. Saturday evening at 2 o'clock services were held at the M. E. church
by Rev. J. O. Powell of Blue Grass, her former pastor. She was then laid to
rest in the New Harmony cemetery, being followed by a large circle of relatives
and friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones.
Mr. Harris
wishes to extend his thanks to his friends, who have been so kind to him during
his trials."
