Rev. Oscar Haas, 80, a retired Methodist minister and a native of Mt. Vernon where he resided for many years, died
Tuesday (20 Jul 1954) in Greenville, N.C. where he had lived since his retirement.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Greenville with burial following in a Greenville cemetery.
Rev. Haas was a former pastor of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Other Indiana charges served by him prior to his
location in the south included Jasonville, Brooklyn and Gentryville.
He was a member of a prominent Mt. Vernon family, the son of John Haas, an
extensive farmer, and Louise Lockwood Haas. The Haas family for many
years owned the property at Fifth and Main streets now belonging to Mt. Vernon, Ind., Democrat. Inc.
Surviving are the wife, Mary, a native of North Carolina, a married daughter, Lucille, Cheyenne, Wyo. A son, Shirley is deceased.
Announcement of Rev. Haas' death was received by Mrs. G. W. Pruden, nee Ruby Weilbrenner, 718 Jefferson street, Evansville, from Mrs. Jack Davis, Elkton, Ky. Mrs. Davis is the former Beulah
Robb who resided with the Haas family for a number of years.
