HARRY CUYLER FORD

New Harmony, Ind. (Special) Harry Cuyler Ford, 80, that last of his generation of one of Posey county's most eminent families and a financier and agricultural operator of wide holdings, died at 4:35 a.m. today at his home here.

He retired from active management of his interests five years ago and in recent months had been ill of arthritis.  Last Friday he was able to walk around his home but became seriously ill of a heart condition Saturday and weakened rapidly.

Death came to the prominent life-long New Harmony resident in the spacious dwelling, a New Harmony showplace, built by the late deceased's maternal grandfather, Adam Lichtenberger, and occupied by the Ford family since.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete this morning although the services have been set tentatively for Wednesday.  Definite arrangements will be made upon the arrival in New Harmony late today of a son, Richard C Ford, Keene, N. H. who is associated with Pittsburgh Plate Glass. (Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery in New Harmony, Indiana.)

Also surviving are a son, William M. Ford, New Harmony, associate with his father in management of extensive farming interets, and six grandchildren.  The wife of the late deceased, Marcia Corbin Ford died, Nov 27, 1960.  A son John B. Ford, died in 1928.

Harry C. Ford was a representative of two pioneer families.  He was the son of William M. Ford and Mary T. Lichtenberger Ford.

In recent years he had divested himself of a number of earlier financial responsibilities including bank directorships.  He continued, however, to serve as president of Fuhrer-Ford Milling Co., Mt. Vernon, and was also a member of the New Harmony Workingmen's Institute at the time of his death.
