Members of the family of William P. Dietz, Jr., 55, former Mt.
Vernon resident and an auto tire and accessory salesman residing at Memphis,
Tenn., for the last 19 years, are convinced that he drowned in the Mississippi
river at Memphis about Sept 11.
An unidentified man was seen to fall or leap from the Mississippi river bridge at Memphis on that date by motorist traversing the
span.
The former Mt. Vernon man has been missing since, but the body
has not been recovered. High blood pressure and the threat of a cerebral
hemorrhage had depressed him in recent months.
Mrs. Edward A. Pence, Mt. Vernon, a sister, and her husband spent the
weekend in Memphis. All evidence points to William P. Dietz, Jr., having
drowned, they said upon their return to Mt. Vernon.
The believed deceased man was a native of Mt. Vernon. His aged parents, William P.
Dietz, retired barber, and Mrs. Ida Maus Dietz,
reside here as well as the sister, Mrs. Pence. The missing man also
leaves a widow, Martha, whom he married 20 years ago next month. The
widow has gone from Memphis to the home of relatives in Jackson, Tn.
