MOUNT VERNON - Edna L. (Shick)
DeKemper, age 85, passed away Friday,
Dec. 22, 2006,
in Beech
Grove, Ind.
She was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, Ind., the daughter of the late George and
Louisa (Knopfmeier) Shick.
Edna was a lifetime member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She graduated Mt. Vernon High School in 1940, and while still in school she
worked at the Palace Soda Shop and the Overall Factory. During WW II she worked
in the laboratory at the Indiana Farm Bureau Refinery. Edna was a Cub Scout den
mother and PTA president. She was a member of Farm Bureau Refinery Co-Op Club
for 62 years and the Ladies Auxiliary of Trinity UCC.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62
years, Stanley Weyman DeKemper
in 2003, two brothers; Herman and George Shick,
sister, Mildred Lee, and a half sister, Alma Shick.
Surviving are two sons, Stanley W. DeKemper
II and wife, Stephanie of Indianapolis, and Kurt D. DeKemper
and wife, Penny of Franklin, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Raphael, Galen, Tyler,
Stanley W. III and Steve DeKemper, and Danny, Brandon
and Dana Barnes Jr.; and a special niece, Joyce (Hicks) Williams of Phoenix
City, Ala.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Troy DeKemper
officiating and burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Schneider Funeral Home.
