Edward Collins, 72, Mt. Vernon, a life-long resident of Posey county, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday (19 Apr 1956). He had been seriously ill for several months.
Prior to his residence in Mt. Vernon which extended over a period of 30 years
he engaged in farming. He and his wife, nee Florence Witham,
who died in 1945, operated Riverside Hotel in Mt. Vernon for a number of years and later Mr.
Collins operated a restaurant at West Second street and College avenue.
The deceased was a member of Mt. Vernon lodge, No. 497, Loyal Order of Moose.
The body is at Short-Niehaus Funeral
Home and the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Short-Niehaus
chapel. Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery. Rev. J. Kenneth
Forbes, minister of First Methodist Church, will conduct the services.
A son of the deceased, Joseph P. Collins, an employ of Gates
rubber Co., Wiliamston, Mich., arrived in Mt. Vernon this morning.
The son, Joseph, a brother, Ben, New Harmony, and four grandchildren are the nearest
surviving relatives.
A son, Robert was fatally injured in an auto accident between
Rockport and Newburgh in February, 1955.
Parents of the deceased Mr. Vernon man were Thomas Collins and
Rose Rowe Collins.
