John Lee Clark, 63, of 120 Walnut street, a printer "of the old
school," died at 10:50 a.m. today in St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville.
Ill of a heart condition and arthritis over
a period of years during which he was hospitalized on several occasions, his
condition worsened rapidly in the last five weeks. He entered St. Mary's
Hospital from his home at 9 o'clock last night.
The veteran employee of Mt. Vernon newspapers since he was 14 years old
served The Mt. Vernon Democrat capably and faithfully during most of his career
as a skilled printer. He had been retired for the last year because of
his health.
The body has been brought to Weisinger
Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Surviving are the wife, nee Lilly Mae Holland whose marriage to
the deceased took place 41 years ago the coming March 11; two daughters, Mrs.
Willard Mears, Odessa, Tex and Mrs. Gerald Wiggins, Mt. Vernon; two sons, John
L., Jr; and Virgil N., both of Goldsmith, Tex; five
grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Hamilton, McLeansboro,
Ill; and Mrs. Elvis Shelton, Mt. Vernon, and two brothers, Sylvester R. a
linotype operator in Belleville, Ill., and Wilfred, an employ of The Democrat.
The deceased's church affiliation was with Mt. Vernon General
Baptist.
He came to Mt. Vernon from his native Kentucky when he was four years old with his
parents, Joseph Clark and Amanda Lucy Cobb Clark, and except for brief period
of employment in the printing field at a distance had resided here since.
