MARTHA E GARRETT CAPE

Mrs. Martha E. Garrett Cape, 85, widow of Jasper Cape and a resident of Mt. Vernon for 59 years died at 7 p.m. Sunday (28 Jul 1957) at the home of her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bell, 520 L & N street.  Mr. Cape, the husband, died in 1950.

 

The late deceased had been ill for two years and seriously ill for the last four weeks.  She was the head of four generations.

 

Born in Norris City, Ill., a daughter of John W. Garrett and Ann Armstrong Garrett, Mrs. Cape came to Mt. Vernon over a half century ago and she and her husband reared their family here.

 

The body is at Weisinger Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service to be conducted in weisinger chap at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 o'clock tonight.

 

Rex. M. Mitchell, former minister of First Christian Church of Mt. Vernon, will come from Overland, Mo., to conduct the funeral service.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

 

Mrs. Cape had been a member of the Christian denomination since girlhood and for many years a member of First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.

 

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Oscar Stultz, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Mary Leidloff, Evansville; two sons, George and Everett, Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Virginia Binkley, Memphis, Tn.
