OAKLAND CITY - Funeral services for Merle O. Barrett, 56, who died Tuesday, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating.  Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery.

Other survivors include his stepfather, Manfred Corn; three stepbrothers, Maurice Corn, and Forest Corn, both of Oakland City, and Floyd Corn, Winslow.

Friends may call at the funeral home today.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ENOS COAL OFFICIAL, MERLE BARRETT, DIES

Merle O. Barrett, 56, a prominent Gibson County resident, died at his home at 523 W. Columbia St., Oakland City, at 3:40 a.m. today following a two-year illness.

He was born in Gibson County April 9 1907, and had been a resident of Oakland City his entire life.

He was purchasing agent for Enos coal Co., for 36 years; was a member of the Oakland City Town Board of Trustees from 1910 through 1943; a member of Oakland City masonic Lodge No. 467; member of First Methodist Church; secretary and member of the board of directors of the Oakland City-Columbia Township School Holding co., Inc. since 1954; was editor of the Enos Echo, a company magazine, and wrote a column entitled "Humanistic" for the Pike County Dispatch; taught a Sunday school class for a number of years, and was manager of the Enos basketball team.

Survivors are the widow, Janet; a daughter, Becky, and a son, Randy, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Mollie Corn of Oakland City; and a brother, Maurice Barrett of Oakland City.

The body is at Lamb Funeral Home pending completion of arrangements.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Anyone wishing to do so may make donations to the Cancer Society in his memory.
