NEWHARMONY, Ind ( Special)  Funeral services will be conducted Thursday for Lawrence W. Bailey, 80, a former Lynn township farmer, an ardent Democrat and a scion of prominent, pioneer Posey county family.

Mr. Bailey, whose health had deteriorated during the last year following major surgery, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday (16 Dec 1957) at the Masonic Home at Franklin, Ind. where he had resided since 1953.

The body reached Shoultz-Werry Funeral Home here yesterday.

Rev. S. E. Morgan, minister of Johnson Memorial Methodist Church will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday in Shoultz-Werry chapel.  Burial will be in Old Beech cemetery in East Lynn township.  A masonic service will be conducted in conjunction with the religious rites.  

The deceased's wife, nee Loyette Stallings, Also a representative of a prominent, pioneer Posey family died in 1949.

Nearest survivors of the late deceased are two sons, Glen S. New Harmony, and Gerald, Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and two brothers, John A. Bailey, 88, Mt. Vernon and Thomas H. Bailey, 84, Riverside, Calif.  A son, J. J. Bailey, was an auto accident fatality on Ind 69 in 1938.

Parents of the late deceased were James J. Bailey, who served Posey county as a Democratic commissioner, and Sarah J. DeFur Bailey.  They were the parents of three sons and two daughters who reached adulthood.  Mrs. Ida Bailey Schnee, New Harmony, a daughter, died in 1939 at the age of 73.  Mrs. Mary A. Bailey Saltzman, Mt. Vernon, another daughter, died in 1954 at the age of 91.

Lawrence W. Bailey was one of Posey county's oldest Masons.  He had been a Master Mason of Arctic lodge of New Harmony, Free & Accepted Masons, since Oct 12, 1903.  He was also a member of Mt. Vernon chapter, Royal Arch Masons.
