Marion Frederick Seifert, 72, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center in Evansville. He was born December 29, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, IN to Wesley and Nora (Hostettler) Seifert. Marion served in the Navy on a destroyer during the Bay of Pigs. After retiring as a farmer in 2004, he was a security guard at Solarbron. Marion was a member of Marrs Township Fire Department, Mt. Vernon Gun Club, Caborn Cemetery Board, former director of Posey County CO-OP, and a lifetime member at St. John’s United Methodist Church. He enjoyed taxidermy, gardening, and loved giving away his vegetables.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Marion is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Wade) Seifert; daughter, Robin (Bob) Bergner of Mt. Vernon; sons, Sam (Dena) Seifert of Frankfort, IN and Nick (Michelle) Seifert of Mt. Vernon; sisters, Marge Kissinger of Mt. Vernon and Janice (Ron) Deckard of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren; Shellee Bergner, Robert Bergner III, Nicholas Seifert Jr., Christopher Seifert, Mathew Seifert, Andrew Seifert, and Samantha Seifert.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the old St. John’s United Methodist Church - Caborn 4101 Caborn Road Mt. Vernon, IN with Pastor Bret Nicholson officiating and burial to follow in St. John’s – Caborn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, January 10, 2014 at the funeral home and from 12:00 p.m. until service time Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the church.
