David L. Lemp, age 77 of Mount Vernon, died Sunday afternoon December 22, 2013 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 3, 1936 in East St. Louis, the son of Henry J. and Goldie (Sloat) Lemp. He married Doris Mulliniks on June 30, 1962 in East St. Louis.

David was a retired machine operator for GAF in Mt. Vernon. He served with the Civil Defense for many years. He was an avid reader and loved fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; 2 sons, Don (Shari) Lemp of Evansville; and Herb Lafferty of Collinsville, IL; 2 daughters, Phyllis Zimmerman and Cheryl Lauer both of Caseyville, IL; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Marcella Lusk.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday December 26, 2013 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time.
