Doris Jane
Manning (Schwartz), 73, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at her home in
Mt. Vernon, IN.
She lived a
full life as a loving, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
sister and friend.
She was a
graduate of Bosse High School & Lockyear Business College. Her professional accomplishments
included her years of employment at Historic New Harmony Inc. where she worked
as an executive secretary to the director with the mission to preserve the treasures
of the area. After her time in New Harmony she became the executive secretary
at GAF in Mt Vernon. She also loved her work for the City of the Mt. Vernon in
the Treasurer’s Office. Music held a special place in her heart, & so as a
member of the First United Methodist Church, she was an active member of the
Chancel choir for over 50 years.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Raymond Schwartz, and her infant
son who died at birth.
Doris leaves
behind her husband of 54 years, Charles Milton Manning; her brother, John Craig
Schwartz (Shirley) of Sarasota, FL; her daughters, Robin Sanabria
(Tony) and Miriam Hammond (David); and 4 grandchildren, Aaron and Sarah Hammond
and Virginia and Andrew Sanabria; 2
great-grandchildren, Ona and Gabriel Hammond.
Visitation
will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday November 4, 2013 at the Stendeback
Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, and also one hour prior to
funeral services on Tuesday at the church.
Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Mt. Vernon First United
Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at Old
Beech Cemetery.
