James S.
McKean, 96, born to Alex and Mina (Hancock) McKean on October 24, 1917 in Poseyville, Indiana, passed away at Deaconess Hospice
surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 31, 2013.
Jim was a
truck driver until he retired in 1977. One of the most memorable events he
participated in during his truck driving career was in 1950 when St. Mary’s
Hospital was relocated to its present location on Washington Avenue. Local
trucking companies helped to move everything, including patients to its new
location. Jim loved to tell that story, along with many others.
After
retiring, Jim and his wife Virginia (Trautvetter)
spent their time together camping, hiking, and traveling. When Jim moved to
Evansville, Indiana in his later years, he enjoyed sitting outside visiting
with his neighbors. He always had a story to share with them and enjoyed being
introduced to their dogs.
Jim was
preceded in death by his wife of 61 years: Virginia C (Trautvetter)
McKean; parents, brother, and son-in-law: William M Palmer.
Jim is
survived by daughter: Judy Palmer; sisters: Mary Keach
and Margaret Taggart; brother-in-law: Louis Gaisser;
grandsons: Michael (Kim) Palmer and Brett (Jayne) Palmer; granddaughter: Dawn
(Josh) Slown; great grandsons: Mitch Palmer, Logan Slown and Tyler Oldham; great granddaughters: Olivia Slown and Brooke Oldham; great-great grandson Eli Slown and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
The family
