James Elwood
“Pete” Ashworth, 89, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013.
He was born
January 30, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, IN to James Herbert and Merty
(Frailey) Ashworth.
Pete served
in the United States Army. He worked at General Electric in Mt. Vernon as a
technician and retired in 1988 and he also worked at the Posey County CO-OP.
Pete was a member of the Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church, American Legion
Post #5, Elks, Eagles, 20 Man Club, and VFW in Carmi, IL.
Pete was
preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Ashworth, Florence Waters;
brothers, Millard “Bus” Ashworth and Kenneth Ashworth.
He is
survived by his wife of 64 years, Wanda (Meissner)
Ashworth; daughters, Rae (Bill) Duncan and Cheryl Morlock;
sister-in-law, Wilma Ashworth; two grandchildren, Krista (Jim) Culley and Shelly Nelson; and five great-grandchildren,
Taylor, Logan, and Zachary Culley, Peyton and Reaghan Nelson; nieces and nephews.
Services
will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Schneider Funeral Home
512 Main St. Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Matt Watson officiating and burial to
follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation
will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the funeral
home.
