Letitia “Tish”
Sinclair Mumford, 90, of Griffin, Indiana, born July 28, 1922 in Indianapolis,
Indiana to Richardson and Emily (Taggart) Sinclair, passed away suddenly on
Sunday, June 30, 2013 in Evansville, Indiana.
She moved to Posey County with
her husband Thomas Mumford after his Navy service in World War II and was
active in many aspects of Posey County life. She was a founding member of the
Posey County Saddle Club, a 4-H Horse and Pony Club leader, a member of the
Colonial Dames of America, and a generous supporter of the arts and culture in
Southwestern Indiana. She served on the boards of the Posey County National
Bank, Historic New Harmony, Harmonie Associates, and
Evansville Day School.
She was a lifelong member of St.
Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Harmony, Indiana, serving in many capacities
over the years.
The loves of her life were her
husband Tom, her family, animals of every sort from horses to Jacob sheep to
turtles on the highway, along with her knitting and her farm in Griffin,
Indiana.
She was also a lifelong summer
resident of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and loved sailing and the ocean.
She was preceded in death by her
parents: Richardson and Emily (Taggart) Sinclair; her beloved husband: Thomas
Mumford: brother: Thomas Sinclair and sisters: Emily and Dora.
She is survived by her six
children: Thomas, Jr. (Nancy) of Olympia, Washington, Richardson (Jan) of
Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, Elizabeth of Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, Christopher
(Maggie) of Plymouth, New Hampshire, Michael (Sandy) of Griffin, Indiana and
Bishop (Liz) of Griffin, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren and one great
grandson.
Her family would like to extend a
special thanks to the Communities at Solarbron for
their care and for the enrichment of the last years of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Stephen’s Church, New Harmony, Indiana, with
burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Griffin, Indiana.
Visitation will be 2:00-8:00 p.m.
on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Werry Funeral Home in
New Harmony, Indiana.
