Loretta T. (Coots) Mayes, 75, of Poseyville, Indiana, born to Oval and Hallie (Henderson) Coots on November 24, 1937, in Butler County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, at her home in Poseyville, Indiana. Heaven gained an angel; the world lost an amazing woman and we lost our cornerstone.

She was a lifetime member of Cromwell United Methodist Church in Cromwell, Kentucky and attended the Stewartsville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, crosswords, canning and traveling with her husband on road trips. Upon retiring she dedicated her time and lovingly cared for her husband and family with always an open door of hospitality and generosity towards everyone who came to her home, preparing meals and loving words to all.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years: Jerry Mayes; blessed by God with 4 children: Gary (Susan) Mayes of New Harmony, Indiana, Brian (Denise) Mayes of Madisonville, Kentucky, Jerri (Rick) Wheeler of Poseyville, Indiana and Keith (Lanette) Mayes of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; son-in-law: Kenneth Cardwell of Poseyville, Indiana; 2 sisters: Patsey Daugherty and Luzetta (David) Snodgrass both of Horse Branch, Kentucky; a brother: Oval C. (Faye) Coots, Jr. of Cromwell, Kentucky; 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and granddaughter: Amy Mayes who greeted her at heaven’s gate.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Werry Funeral Home, Poseyville Chapel with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Pastor Don Mobley officiating.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2013, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
