Ruby Herron, 81, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at New Harmony Healthcare.

She was born on June 6, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, IN to Ben and Alma (Hutchison) Schmidt.

Ruby had worked at Whirlpool and retired from Salon Wow as the Book Keeper. She was an avid gardener and loved to play tennis. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Gladys Thomas and Dorothy Lewis; brothers, Elmo, Ronald, Theodore, and Roger Schmidt.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Bill Herron; daughters, Debra McGinnis (Scott) and Robin Halter (Leon); grandchildren, Kris Russell, Amy Perry, Shaun Patton, Daniel Ludwig, Samuel Ludwig, Benjamin Halter; great grandchildren, Lucas and Dane Patton, Hera Ludwig, and Grae Hopgood; brother, Howard Schmidt.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Schneider Funeral Home 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon with burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
