Roy W. Thompson, 74, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Tuesday,
November 20, 2012
at Deaconess Hospice Care Center after a 6 month battle with cancer.
He was born in Mt. Vernon, IN on September 5, 1938 to Maurice and Viola (Alldredge) Thompson.
He was a 1956 graduate
of Mt. Vernon High School, and served in the Air Force from 1960 –
1964. Roy worked at Babcock and Wilcox in Mt. Vernon for 16 years and was then a self
employed Auctioneer for many years. He was a private, slow talking, very quiet
man, but when it was “auction time” the bigger the crowd the better he liked
it. He enjoyed caring for his animals on his small acreage, coin collecting,
listening to country music and being with his grandchildren.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; brothers, and sisters in law, Edwin R. Thompson and
wife Judy, William F. Thompson and his wife Marla; father in law and mother in
law, Floyd Eugene (Gene) and Mary Norrington.
Roy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Brenda (Norrington)
Thompson, who worked for many years for Atty. Otis B. Allyn
and was later the Trust Officer at Posey County National Bank in Mt. Vernon. He is also survived by his son, Kevin
M. Thompson and his wife Stacy; granddaughter, Tory Izabella
Thompson; grandson, Lincoln Dane Thompson; step granddaughter, Ivy Victoria
Johnston; sister, Carolyn S. Darr; brother, Charles
L. Thompson and his wife Susan; brother in law, Darrell Scott Norrington, Sr. and his wife Mary Helen; nieces; nephews;
and cousins.
In respect to Roy’s wishes for something brief and simple,
funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday November 24,
2012 at
Schneider Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will
be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm service time on Saturday,
November 24, 2012
at the funeral home.
