Clyde K. Cavanaugh, age 92 of
Mt. Vernon, died October 9, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1920, the son of Harry R. and Mary Etta (Garbroko) Cavanaugh.
He married Winnifred Jean Hancock on May 16, 1959 and she preceded him in death on August 25, 2010.
Clyde worked as a truck driver for G.E. Plastics until his
retirement. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII and Korea. He received 7 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He
was a member of V.F.W. Post #1114 in Evansville and Owen Dunn Post #5 in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Nazarene Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra K. Esche of
Mt. Vernon; one step-son, Larry Joe and Patty Fieber
of Evansville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Donald Cavanaugh of Greensburg, PA and Russell Cavanaugh of Hilton Head, SC. He
was preceded in death by one son, Clyde Kenneth Cavanaugh, Jr.; one step-son,
Dennis Wayne Taylor; one brother, Elmer Cavanaugh and one sister, Gladys Stoffer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
on Friday, October 12, 2012
at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with burial in Sunset Memorial Park in Evansville.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Military graveside
rites will be conducted by Owen Dunn Post #5.
