Ruth Ann (Chaplin) Ries, 75, of Mt. Vernon, entered the
gates of Heaven early Saturday morning.
Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the
Women’s group and had served as chairperson for numerous years on the wedding
committee. She loved working with children and had also taught Sunday school.
Ruth was one of the first Teachers at Susanna Wesley where she eventually
retired from. She also retired as the Bookkeeper for Ries Farms Inc. Along with
her extensive church involvement she was active in the Purdue Extension
Homemakers Club where she has served as President several times. Ruth was a
longtime member of the Busy Homemakers Group and 4 H where she also served as a
club leader.
Ruth was best known for her love for her children,
grandchildren, and now her great grandchild. She enjoyed attending any event
they participated in. Her genuine smile and selfless love will be missed by
all.
She was preceded in death by his parents; Warren and Gertrude (McClure)
Chaplin; sisters, Mary Chaplin and Sadie Searcy; brother, Charles Chaplin;
granddaughter, Kaylee Elizabeth Ries.
Ruth leaves behind her husband of 52 years, David O. Ries; their children,
David O. Ries (Kim), Jim Ries (Melanie), Peg Heckman, Charles Ries (Mary) all
of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Danielle (Nathaniel), Brianna,
Madison, Maria, McKenzie, Sam, Elizabeth and Abigail; great grandchild, Adelea; sister, Grace (Chaplin) Leonard of Montgomery, AL;
brother in law, Paul (Martha) Ries; sister in law, Phyllis Ries all of Mt.
Vernon; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, May 30, 2013 at First
United Methodist Church 601 Main St. in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Tim Ahlemeyer officiating.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm service time on Thursday, May 30,
2013 at the Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Susanna Wesley Nursery
School or the Historical Santa Claus Campground.
