This Indenture
made this twenty third day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and thirty eight between Michael Wilkins and Martha his wife of the
County of Parke and State of Indiana of the first part and Henry Martin of the
County and State aforesaid of the second part
Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in
consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to them in hand paid the receipt
hereof acknowledged doth hereby give grant bargain sell and convey unto the
party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever all that certain land
or parcel of land, situated in the County of Parke being twenty five and eight
hundredths of an acre on the north end of the east half of the southeast
quarter of section twenty four in township sixteen of range nine west in the
district of land offered for sale at Crawfordsville Indiana. To have and to hold the said granted and
bargained premises together with all the privileges and appurtenances thereof
unto said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and the said
party of the first for their heirs executors and administrators doth covenant
to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that they
are lawfully seized of the premises above conveyed and that they are free from
all encumbrances and the above bargained premises in the quiet and peaceable
possession of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against
the lawful claims and demands of all persons the said party of the first part
and their heirs will forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof the said party of the
first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.

remembered that on this day towit the ? day of March
A.D. 1838 before me the subscriber a justice of the peace in and for said
county personally came Michael Wilkins and Martha his wife the grantors named
in the foregoing deed of conveyance and separately acknowledged the signing and
sealing said deed to be their act and deed for the uses and purposes herein
contained and the said Martha wife of the said Michael being by me first
examined separate and apart from her said husband acknowledged that she signed
and sealed said deed as her own voluntary act without any compulsion or
coercion from her said husband. In
testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above
