This Indenture
made this twenty fourth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and thirty seven between Michael Wilkins and Martha his wife of
the county of Parke and state of Indiana of the first part and Pratt Frink,
John Adamson, Joseph Stephenson and John Holstead Trustees of the Montezuma
public meeting house and schoolhouse and their successors in office of the
second part Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in
consideration of the sum of one hundred and forty dollars to them in hand paid
the receipt whereof is acknowledged do hereby give grant bargain sell and
convey unto the said party of the second part and their successors in office
forever all that certain tract or parcel of land situated in the town of
Montezuma Parke County Indiana known and designated on the plat of said town as
lot number one hundred and thirty seven (137) for the express purpose of a
publick meeting house and for divine worship and a publick school house. To have and to hold the said granted and
bargained premises together with all the privileges and appurtenances thereof
unto the said party of the second part and their successors in office forever,
and the said party of the first part for themselves their heirs executors and
administrators doth covenant with the said party of the second part and their
successors that they are lawfully seized of the premises above conveyed and
that they are free from all incumbrances and the above bargained premises in
the quiet and peaceable possession of the said party of the second part and
their successors against the lawful claims and demands of all persons the said
party of the first part and their heirs will forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof the said party of the
first part have hereunto set their hand and seals the day and year above

Indiana Parke County be it remembered that on the day towit the 1st day of
September A.D. 1837 Before me the subscriber a justice of the peace in and for
said county personally came Michael Wilkins and Martha his wife the grantors
named in the foregoing deed of conveyance and separately acknowledged the
signing and sealing said deed to be their act and deed for the uses and
purposes therein contained and Martha wife of the said Michael being by me
first examined separate and apart from her said husband acknowledged that she
signed and sealed said deed as her own voluntary act without any compulsion or
coercion from her said husband. In
