On March 6, 1929, Tom Taggart
died at his home in Indianapolis. In his life he
had accomplished much. In business, in politics,
and in friends he chalked up a good score. Not
the least of his accomplishments was the hotel at
French Lick. Under his direction it grew from an
ordinary resort, with ordinary frame buildings to
an extra-ordinary resort possessing nearly 4,000
acres of properties and almost two million
dollars in brick buildings. It had gained
prosperity and fame, so had Tom Taggart. The New
York Times estimated that Taggart's fortune at
over two million dollars and stated: "Mr.
Taggart enjoyed every moment of his life, and
leaves behind him the memory of much kindness and
little misuse of power. An era ended at French
Lick. |
