She was the mother of eight children [there were actually nine children], seven of whom survive her, one of them being Mrs. David Jones, near Mt. Pleasant. She was a cheerful, kind hearted old lady, whom it was a pleasure to know, and her death cast a shadow over a large circle of relatives and friends. Barbara Purkiser

Died, at the home of Wm. Henson, in Paoli, January 26, Miss Barbara Purkhiser.
Miss Purkhiser was born near Salem, in Washington county, this State, in the year 1822, being in her 87th year.  At the age of 15 in 1837, she came with her parents to Orange county and settled near New Prospect.   She lived in this part of the county until two years ago, when she and her sister, Mrs. Lettie Bruner, who had been living alone for many years, having been too old and feeble to longer care for themselves, went to live with Mrs. Bruner's daughter, Mrs. William Henson, who recently moved to Paoli.
She united with the M. E. church in 1855, in which she lived a true and devoted christian until death called her to her reward.  Of a numerous family all have passed on before save one sister, Mrs. Bruner, who is 83  years old.  She leaves many nephews, nieces and other relatives to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held in the New Prospect Christian church and the body was laid to rest in the New Prospect cemetery, Jan., 29.  Rev.
