James Downing

 James “Jim” L. Downing, 89, of Orleans, passed away at 12:01 AM on Wednesday, February 03, 2016 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford, IN
James was born in Marion, Grant County, Indiana, the son of Virgil L. and Mabel I. (Sloderbeck) Downing.
James and Donna M. Bockmier were married on June 6, 1948 in the Van Buren United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Van Buren United Methodist Church and a resident of Van Buren, IN until 2002. He has worshiped with the congregations of the Orleans Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and Orleans United Methodist Church since moving to Orleans, IN.
James was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served with the 773rd Tank Destroyer Battalion till it was disbanded, then with other units in the European Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Brown-Doyal Post 368 and a member of the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post 69.
He is a member of UAW Local 977, having retired on September 1991 after 35 years of service as a die-maker at the G.M. Corp. CPC Group Plant in Marion, IN. He was previously employed by the Lynch Corp. and Daly Bros. Shoe Co.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 67 years; one daughter, Beth A. Hall (Frank) of Orleans; one son; James M. Downing (Susan) of Orleans; five grandchildren and spouses and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Maxine McMillan and Mary Evelyn Mathias.
The funeral will be on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Williams officiating with military rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion Post 69.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 until service time.
The graveside service will be on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11:30 AM at Van Buren Cemetery, Van Buren, IN.
Preferred memorials may be made to any church listed above, Rick Magill Memorial Clothe a Child Fund or the donor’s favorite charity.


Dorothy Fisher

 Dorothy M. (Strange) Fisher, age 92, of Orleans, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 5:50 PM at Paoli Health and Living Community. While, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends, all of us are eternally grateful for her faithful dedication to Jesus Christ and the brilliant example she lived out daily.
She was born March 17, 1923 in Orleans, IN, the daughter of Raymond and Pearl (Burgess) Strange
She married Burrell J Fisher on June 17, 1949 and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1977.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Jarvis, John Robert and Donald Strange, and three sisters Barbara Clifton, Julia Strange and Margaret (Strange) Magner .
She is survived by one sister, Mary Lou (Strange) Limp, husband Ralph; one daughter, June (Fisher) Scott; one son, Gary Fisher, wife Dianna (Hackney) Fisher, as well as 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a 5th great-grandchild on the way.
She was an active member of Orleans Christian Church and a graduate of Orleans High School class of 1942
Funeral services will be held at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 10:00 am with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating and she will be interred alongside her husband in the Stampers Creek Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Claty Fields

Claty "Jake" Fields of Mitchell (Huron area), IN, died Wednesday, December 9, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.  Born on June 22, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Richard "Peck" and Maggie (Eagans) Fields.  He married Mildred Carpenter on January 11, 1941, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Harley Fields of Westport, IN, and Phillip Fields of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Sheryl Walton of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Emma Smith of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Harley, Richard, and Ray Fields, and one sister, Bessie Robertson.

He was a World War II Army veteran.  Early in his life he worked in the stone mills in Lawrence County and retired from the Lawrence County Highway Department. He was a member of the Huron Baptist Church.

Services for Claty Fields will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 12th, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bailey officiating.   Burial will follow in Huron Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.



Dale Tolbert

Dale G. Tolbert, 54, of West Baden, passed away at 5:30 PM, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his residence in West Baden.

Dale was born February 2, 1960 in, Missouri, to William “Ray” and Lois (Gardener) Tolbert.

Dale was a 1978 graduate of Springs Valley High School. He also attended Vincennes University and Indiana State University. He enjoyed flying and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He also enjoyed studying astronomy. Dale had previously worked at Carpenters in Mitchell, the Branchville Correctional Facility, had delivered paper for Times-Mail and worked for In-liner. He was a member of Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Lois Tolbert of Mt. Solon, Virginia, spouse, Nora Tolbert of Bloomington, daughters, Danielle Chrisman of Paoli and Bethany McCracken of Paoli and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie Tolbert of Jackson, Missouri and sisters, Barbara Moore of North Glen, Colorado, Phyllis Roberts of Mt. Solon, Virginia, and Bonnie Krabhenhoft of Deltona, Florida.

Preceding him in death was his father, William "Ray" Tolbert.

Services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church, West Baden Springs, with Rev. Rob Martindale officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in West Baden. Friends may call from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be given to the funeral home to assist with expenses.


Robert Carter

 Robert “Bob” Carter, 83, of Paoli, passed away on Monday, August 03, 2015 at 11:45 AM at his residence.
He was born on January 13, 1932 in Mitchell, IN, the son of Harry and Maude (Edwards) Carter.
He married to Linda (Huff) Carter and she preceded him in death on Oct 8, 2003.
He worked at Otis Elevator as a welder for several years.
He is survived by three daughters, Diana Bollhorst of Mitchell, Jody Faulconer of Paoli, Tara (Charlie) Watts of Paoli; and four sons, Daniel Carter of Scottsburg, Steve (Debbie) Carter of Orleans, Bryan (Bridget) Roach of Bedford, and Barry (Polly) Roach of Mitchell; along with Victoria Hill with twenty-nine other grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one brother; Gene Carter of Linton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sons (Jerald Carter and Robert Allen Carter), one brother (William Carter), and two sisters (Lois Burke and Della Gilbert).
The funeral will be on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Don Laird officiating.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until service time.



Lorena Coulter

Lorena Mae Goen Coulter of Medora, IN, died Saturday, December 26, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center.  Born on April 11, 1943, in Seymour, IN, she was the daughter of Lewis M. and Arietta Louise (Wilkerson) Goen.  She married Stephen D. Goen on December 22, 1958.   She married Arthur Coulter on March 16, 1968, and he preceded her in death on August 11, 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonita McPherson and Tamilla "Tami" Murphin, both of Medora, IN; two sons, Monte and Johnny Goen, both of Medora, IN; one brother-in-law, William E. Coulter of Gaston, IN; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one half-sister, and one son, Dennis Dewayne Goen.

She was a certified nurse's aide at local nursing homes and was of Pentecostal faith.

Services for Lorena Coulter will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 29th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Proctor Cemetery.   Friends may call from 6-8 Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.


Elden Holsapple

 Elden Lloyd Holsapple passed away at his residence on January 23, 2016 in Bloomington, Indiana at the age of 78.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, John (Carolyn) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Aaron (Lynne) of Jefferson City, Missouri, five grandchildren: Julia (Mrs. Ransford Walker), Kathryn and Cameron Holsapple, Rachel and Lauren Holsapple. Elden was preceded in death by his son Scott.
Elden was born on April 24, 1937 in Lawrence County, Indiana to Warren and Ethel May (McIntire) Holsapple. In 1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented Elden with the National 4-H Boy Achievement Winner award. He graduated valedictorian of the Mitchell High School Class of 1955. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity graduating in 1959 from Purdue University with a BS in Agriculture. After meeting Betty Archer of Blockton, Iowa on a blind date they were married on September 23, 1961 and moved to Decatur, Indiana where he worked for the farm loan division of Metropolitan Life Insurance. Establishing Holsapple Real Estate in 1963 Elden was self-employed selling, appraising and farming in Kansas and Iowa. The couple welcomed three sons into their home during their 54 years of marriage. A lifelong member of the independent Christian Church, Elden’s treasures were his faith and his family
Visitation will be Saturday January 30, 2-5 p.m. at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home, 187 East Jefferson St., Orleans, Indiana. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, January 31, 1:30 p.m. at Fishing Creek Chapel, 752 Bono Road, Mitchell, Indiana. Burial will follow in Talbott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Fishing Creek Chapel. The family thanks Dr. Steven C. Gabrielson of Bloomington and Southern Care Hospice services for their skilled care and compassion.


Betty Watts

Betty M. Watts, age 84 of West Baden Springs, passed away at 12:50 PM on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, Jasper, Indiana.

Betty was born on December 6, 1927 in Orange County, Indiana to Roy Arthur and Lillie Mae (Howard) Land. She married Roy Watts on April 26, 1947 and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2011.

She was a 1944 graduate of West Baden High School and a member of the Red Quarry Christian Church. She loved cooking and especially making Sugar Cookies for her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis Watts and his wife Pam of West Baden, Fred Watts and his wife, Pat of Jasper, Steve Watts of French Lick and Tony Watts and his wife, Keyly of French Lick, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Dale, Carrol, Bobby, and Danny Land all of French Lick and sisters, Norma Quinn, Shirley Jones, Wanda Elkins, Linda Beyers, Kay Land and Geri Garrison all of French Lick and Joann Jones of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Donald Land and sisters, Frances Land, Vera Crowder, and Rosemary Powell.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Indiana where the family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. The funeral service will be at the mortuary on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Darrel Land and Rev. Joe Crow officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick, Indiana.

Irene Wilcoxen

Irene Wilcoxen of Mitchell died Tuesday, December 1, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center.   Born on December 23, 1922, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Ervil and Blanche (Chastain) Wilcoxen. 

Surviving is one sister, Shirley Coomer of Tenino, Washington.  She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

She was a homemaker and member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.

A graveside service for Irene Wilcoxen will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 4, at Mitchell Cemetery with the Reverend Mark Bechtel officiating.  Friends may call from 8:00 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at Haverly Mortuary in Mitchell.


Sheila Waldridge

Sheila S. Waldridge, 72, of Paoli, passed away on January 22, 2016 at 9:05 AM at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born on October 8, 1943 in Lee County, Virginia, the daughter of Henry and Dorothy (Johnson) Cavins
She loved to sew. Her hobbies were jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her four sons, Wayne (Robin Sweet) Ray of Orleans, Henry Ray of Bedford, Andy Evans of Orleans, Johnny (Rhonda) Dillard of Orleans; three daughters, Robin Ray of Paoli, Brenda Schofield of Orleans, Janie (Kenneth) McCullough of West Baden Springs; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Ray Buttery of Orleans and one sister, Mildred Faye Cross of Paoli.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Dillard: son, Grover Ray; one brother, Fred “Tony” Cavins.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, Jan 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans

Brandon Albright

Brandon M. Albright, 16, of West Baden Springs, Indiana, passed away at 11:55 PM, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at IU Health Paoli Hospital, Paoli, IN.

Brandon was born September 24, 1996 in Jasper, Indiana, to Dwayne Allen and Camellia Matilda (Nelson) Albright.
He was a Junior at Springs Valley High School and was known for spending hours hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed welding. Brandon was a member of Highland Chapel Church.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Dwayne and Camellia Albright of West Baden, and two brothers, Tyler and Blake Albright both of West Baden, maternal grandparents, Eugene and Juanita Nelson of West Baden, paternal grandparents, Melvin and Markeeta Albright of Shoals and Great Grandmother, Wilma Albright also of Shoals. Brandon is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be held 1:30 PM, Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Highland ChapelChurch in West Baden with Rev. John Moffatt officiating. Burial will be at Highland Chapel Cemetery in West Baden. Thelma Byrd

Thelma Ethel Byrd of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 1, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital.  Born on February 3, 1907, in Avoca, IN, she was the daughter of James and Leslie (McAfee) McDonald.  She married Manuel Paul Byrd on November 17, 1924, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Paul Byrd of Bloomington, IN, and Larry Dean Byrd of South Carolina; two daughters, Betty Pennington of Altoona, FL, and Phyllis Finley of Bedford, IN; one sister, Luella Thomas of Bedford, IN; thierteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by one son, Wilmer Dale Byrd; two sisters, Gretna Mawwey, and Dorothy Seidl; one brother, Sam McDonald; two grandchildren,a dn one great-grandchild.

She had worked at Tindal's Hardware Store and attended Dive Christian Church.

Services for Thelma Byrd will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 3rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the mortuary.


Jeffery Schrader

 Jeffery Lyn Schrader, 57, of Mitchell, passed away at his residence on Jan 12, 2016.
He was born on August 20, 1957 in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Harold and Charlotte (Loveless) Schrader.
He was survived by his sister, Lori Schrader of Indianapolis
He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.
No services and cremation was chosen by the family.
Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.


David Allen

David Wayne "Henry" Allen, age 59, of West Baden Springs, Indiana, passed away at 6:00 AM, Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in French Lick, Indiana.

Henry was born on May 6, 1952 in Orange County, Indiana to James A. and Mary Frances (Akers) Allen.

He had previously worked at Bill Moffatt Sawmill. He was also a member of the French Lick American Legion.

He is survived by his companion, Dianne Waring of French Lick, five brothers, James Allen of Sellersburg; Ronald L. Allen of Paoli; Richard E. Allen of West Baden Springs; Michael R. Allen of West Baden Springs; Timothy J. Allen of French Lick; one sister Susie Holt of Shoals; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Keith Arthur Allen.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family will receive friends, Friday, January 20, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the mortuary with Rev. John Moffatt officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick, Indiana.


Rita Bough

Rita Jo Bough of Bedford died Tuesday, December 1, 1998, at her residence.  Born December 20, 1933, in Bloomfield, IN, she was the daughter of John and Mamie (Marshall) Krantz.   She married Merle Bough on April 6, 1951, and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kathy Brown of Bedford; two grandchildren, Dana Flinn and Jamie Brown, both of Bedford, IN; and one great-granddaughter, Carrie Flinn.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Don Krantz; and one son, Jeffery Scott Bough in 1971.

She was a teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Bedford for 21 years, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.  She graduated with BA and MA degrees in Education from Indiana University.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, President of North Lawrence Education Association for 4 years, president of American Association of University Women for 4 years, and member of the State Teachers Association.

Services for Rita Jo Bough will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, in the Elmwood Chapel of The Day & Carter Mortuary.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. on Wednesday at The Day & Carter Mortuary.


Philip Pinnick

 Philip G. Pinnick, 85, of Orleans, passed away at his residence in Orleans.
He was born April 21, 1930 in Selma, IN, the son of Fred and Amy (Brooks) Pinnick
He married Annabelle (List) Pinnick on June 25, 1950 and she survives
He was a graduate of Orleans High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Orleans Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, and a proud life member of the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post# 69. He was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Orleans.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Annabelle Pinnick of Orleans; one son, Greg (Cindy) Pinnick of Mitchell; one daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Harms of Bedford; four grandchildren, Tiffany (JR) Buher, Damien Pinnick all of Mitchell, Ethan and Austin Harms of Bedford; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Buher and Kennedy Pinnick of Mitchell; two brothers, Bill Pinnick of Bedford and John Pinnick of Orleans; one sister, Rheta Pinnick of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glenn Pinnick in infancy and Clyde “Rex” Pinnick.
The funeral will be on Friday at 11:00 AM at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Reverend Patrick Sinnott officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans with military services conducted by the Orleans American Legion.

Elnora Allen

 Elenora J. Allen, age 75 of Mitchell, Indiana formerly of Paoli, Indiana passed away at 12:07 PM, Friday, January 6, 2012 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford, Indiana. Eleanor was born on February 13, 1936 in Fayette County, Indiana the daughter of the late John B. and Pearl A. (Harrison) Allen. She had worked with Homecare Companies as a caretaker and enjoyed making crafts.

She is survived by sons, Hubert "Fred" Allen of Paoli and Wendell Allen of New Albany, daughter, Janis Key of Paoli, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Floyd Thomas Allen of Oklahoma and Clarence Dean "Shorty" Allen of Fort Wayne and sisters, Edith Marie Friend of Alpine, Indiana, Lindy Nellie Smith of Fort Wayne and Lilly Gaddis of Connersville. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Fred, Buster, Alex Andres and Lawrence Gene "Dick" Allen and sisters, Rhoda Belle, Martha May, Bertha Allen, and Ethel Irene Allen.

Local arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Indiana. Funeral services will be conducted at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 West 8th Street, Connersville, Indiana on Wednesday January 11, 2012 at 11:00 am with Elder Mike Chastain officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel North Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4-6 pm.


Daniel Melton

Daniel D. Melton of Williams, IN, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital.   Born on May 22, 1947, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Walter and Nina (Hughes) Melton.  He married Deana Bell on November 5, 1994, and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons:  Zachary and Joshua Belton, both of Williams, IN, and Shannon Melton of Charlestown, IN; four daughters:   Kelsey and Kendall, both of Williams, IN, Heidi Melton of Mitchell, IN, and Jessica Melton of Bedford, IN; one step-son, Cody Bell of Williams; his mother, Nina McDonald of Greenwood, IN; two sisters, Louise Lawrence of Indianapolis and Nada Lindley of Mitchell, IN; two half-brothers, Steven and Teddy McDonald, both of Greenwood, IN; and one half-sister, Stephanie English of Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his father, step-father, one son, and his grandparents.

He was a Vietnam War Army veteran, an employee of C.M Bowman Trucking Co. in Indianapolis, and a member of ABATE.

Services for Daniel Melton will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Ira officiating.  Burial will follow in Port William Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, Mitchell.  Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 p.m. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.


Rosie Rivera

 Rosie G. Rivera (Whittley) 70, of Mitchell, passed away at her residence on Dec. 25, 2015 at 9:00 AM.
She was born on June 4, 1945 in La Juanita, Colorado, the daughter of Salvador Whattley and Mary Salazar (Fernandez)
She was a homemaker.
She was survived by seven children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
No services were scheduled and cremation was chosen.


Darlene Anderson

 Darlene F. Anderson, age 61 of French Lick, Indiana, formerly of Anderson, passed away at 5:00 AM, Friday, March 16, 2012 at her residence.

Darlene was born on March 13, 1951 in Anderson, Indiana to Edward Ray and Naomi (Howard) Smith. She married Bruce Anderson on June 30, 1982 and he survives.

She was a 1969 graduate of Anderson High School and received a degree as a Legal Secretary from Ivy Tech in Muncie. She and Bruce met when he owned the Golden Cadillac Restaurant and Bar in Anderson. She was the secretary for the business as well as played the guitar and sang to the patrons. She had also worked at Medco Center and at the West Baden Dome working in the flower gardens. She was a member of the Wycliffe United Methodist church and loved being outdoors working in her garden and raising her flowers. She also loved boating at Patoka Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Anderson of French Lick, sons, Lonnie Marks and Joseph Marks both of French Lick, and Abraham Anderson of Jeffersonville, along with her grandchildren, Chandler, Natasha, McKayla, Lakota, and Clarence. She is also survived by brothers, Robert Smith of Eckerty, Kip Smith of French Lick, and Eddie Smith of Florida and sisters, Esther "Rae" Saylor of Eckerty and Dawn Smith of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family will receive friends on Monday, March 19, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 9:00 until 10:00 AM. The funeral service will be held, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Joe Hollen and Rev. Dave Moss officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick.


Blanche Boyd

Blanche Boyd of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998, at the Orange County Hospital.   Born on October 28, 1900, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Jesse and Florence (Mahan) Boyd. 

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Wagner, Alma Reily, and Stella, and two brothers, Grant and Bruce Boyd.

A 1919 graduate of Mitchell High School, she had a bachelor's degree from Central Normal College and received the master's degree from Indiana University.  She taught fifty years in the Mitchell Community School.   After retiring in 1969, she served as librarian at the Mitchell Public Library.   She was a member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.  She was a sustaining member and past president of the Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa sorority, and a member of Fleur de Lis.  She was a member of the National, Indiana, and Lawrence County Retired Teachers Associations.

Services for Blanche Boyd will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8th, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Shake officiating.  Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the funeral home.


Grover Ray

 Grover Houston Ray, 52, of Orleans, passed away at 4:06 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Baptist Health Louisville in Louisville, KY.
He was born March 15, 1963 in Rose Hill, Virginia, the son of Sheila (Cavins) Waldridge.
He worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years and was an avid fisherman and Nascar fan.
He is survived by his mother, Sheila Waldridge of Paoli; four brothers, Wayne (Robin Sweet) Ray of Orleans, Henry Ray of Bedford, Andy Evans of Orleans, Johnny (Rhonda) Dillard of Orleans; three sisters, Robin Ray of Paoli, Brenda Schofield of Orleans, Janie (Kenneth) McCullough of West Baden Springs; loved by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Dad, Charles Dillard; one sister, Brenda Lane.
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery

Melissa Walters

 Melissa Ann Walters, 48, of Indianapolis, formerly of French Lick, passed away at 3:15 PM, Friday, May 2, 2014 at her residence in Indianapolis

Melissa was born July 17, 1965 in French Lick, to Jim and Rowena (Emmons) Spurgeon. She married Charles Walters on July 27, 1990 and he survives. 

Melissa had worked as a Master Electrician for Maxim Services in Indianapolis. She enjoyed fishing and her family. 

She is survived by her parents, Jim and Rowena Spurgeon of French Lick, husband, Charles “Chuck” Walters of Indianapolis, sons, Dustin Johnson of French Lick, and Cody Walters of San Diego, California, daughter, Nacole Walters of LaPorte, Indiana, and six grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Anita Land of Paoli and her in-laws, Harold and Mary Lou Walters of French Lick.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 4, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, with Rev. Rick Engelhardt officiating. Friends may call from 12 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary.


John Tolliver

John Tolliver, Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Friday, December 4, 1998, at the residence of his sister.  Born on December 8, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of John Andrew and Lora (Miller) Tolliver.

Surviving are four brothers:  Wayne Tolliver of Bedford, IN, Delbert Tolliver of Bath, MI; Jerry Tolliver of Walters, OK, and Joseph Tolliver of Sinica, S.C.; three sisters:  Paulice Stafford of Bedford, IN, June Owens of Portland, MI, and Joyce Holloway of Cadillac, MI; and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents.

He attended the Judah Church of Christ.

Services for John Tolliver will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 7th, at the Judah Church of Christ with Bro. Frank Binford officiating.   Burial will follow in the Judah Church of Christ Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.


Donald Mahan

 Donald J. Mahan Sr., 82, of Orleans, passed away at 4:28 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
He was born August 27, 1933 in Orleans, IN, the son of Clarence and Amy (Snyder) Mahan.
He married Virginia Janet (Haley) Mahan on February 14, 1953 and she survives.
He was an owner of Mahan’s corner in Orleans and Dairyland in Salem and Paoli for many years. A member of The First Baptist Church in Orleans.
He is survived by his wife, of Orleans; two daughters, Donna Heinz (Ron Hatten bach) of Plainfield and Dottie Dorsett (Brian) of Orleans; one son, Darrel Mahan of Orleans; one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Mahan; two brothers, Leroy Mahan of Florida and Jack Mahan of Missouri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Donnie Joe Mahan Jr., one great granddaughter, Bethany.
The funeral will be on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery, Orleans.

Helen Asbell

 Helen Mae Asbell, age 86 of West Baden Springs, Indiana, passed away at 5:40 AM, Thursday, December 01, 2011 at IU Health Paoli Hospital, Paoli, Indiana.

Helen was born on February 2, 1925 in Cuzco, Indiana to Clyde and Alice (Conrad) Nicholson. She married Richard H. "Dick" Asbell on June 23, 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1992.

She was retired from Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the French Lick American Legion Auxiliary and Bethel Church. She had worked on several election boards in Martin and Orange County. When she was able she loved to help out and visit with friends at the Orangeville Community Center. She spent most of her life raising fourteen children.

She is survived by sons, Lee Asbell (Margie) of Shoals, Bill, Randy (Yody) and Donnie (Nancy) of West Baden Springs, Tim (Debbie) of Paoli and Mike of West Baden Springs, daughters, Donna Asbell of French Lick, Pam Asbell of Jasper, Sandy Asbell and Judy Cox (Ray) of West Baden Springs, twenty two grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Holt of Shoals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, Roger, Jim and Steven Asbell and one daughter, Diane Asbell, sisters, Wilda Mills, Lou Bair, and Shirley Jean Conrad, and brothers, Truman and Irvin Nicholson and two brothers in infancy.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family will receive friends, Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The funeral service will be held, Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Rev. David Conley officiating. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery, Shoals, Indiana.

Josephine Rariden

Josephine A. Rariden of Bedford, IN, died Friday, December 4, 1998, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.  Born on November 11, 1922, in Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of Marshall and Roberta (Ellis) Miller.  She married David Rariden, and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Marsha Rariden Horsak of Dallas, TX; one son, Stewart Rariden of Bedford, IN; one brother, Marvin Miller of Bedford, IN; and five grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbus, MO, and the Chicago Art Institute.  She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 129.

Services for Josephine Rariden will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 7th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.  Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.   Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence County Community Foundation or the Culver Education Foundation in Culver.


Thomas Cornett

 Thomas J. Cornett, 70, of Orleans, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 3:34 PM at IU Health Bloomington Hospital while being surrounded by family and friends.
He was born August 1, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Custer and Susie (Spencer) Cornett
He married Karen Cornett on March 18, 1964 and she survives.
He worked at Asplundh for 32 years where he served as a superintendent. He was an active member of The Orleans Nazarene Church. He graduated from Orleans High School class of 1964. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed muscle cars and the lamp business. Since his retirement, he worked as a property manager and care taker for Roger Holland
He is survived by his wife of Orleans; two daughters, Cindy Seigle (Mark) and Kaylee Wilson (Paul) both of Orleans; two grandchildren, Lukas Robbins and Alice Wilson; one great grandchildren, Emberli Robbins; one brother, Winslow Cornett of Orleans. Several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include: Roger D. Holland, Bradley D. Holland, Michael W. Holland, Aaron S. Holland, Lukas C. Robbins, Paul J. Wilson.
He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers and three sisters.
The funeral will be on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:30 PM at the Orleans Nazarene Church with Pastor Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.
Friends are invited to visitation at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.

Dennis Watts

 Dennis G. Watts, 65, of West Baden Springs, Indiana, passed away at 4:08 AM, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at IU Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.

Dennis was born March 9, 1948 in Orange County, Indiana, to Roy L. and Betty M. (Land) Watts. He married Pam Morgan on August 15, 1970 and she survives.

He was a 1966 graduate of Springs Valley High School and had attended Indiana University and graduated from Indiana State University. He had served as an elder and worked with the youth at First Christian Church in Crown Point, Indiana and LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville, Illinois. Dennis was retired as a Sales Engineer and Project Manager from HydroChem. He was a member of Restoration Christian Church in French Lick where he loved serving the Lord.

He is survived by wife, Pam Watts, West Baden Springs, sons, Devin (Amy) Watts of Troy, Illinois, Ryan (Erin) Watts of Bloomington, Illinois, and Darin (Candice) Watts of Wood River, Ilinois, and five grandchildren with another one on the way. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred (Pat) Watts of Jasper, Steven Watts of French Lick, and Tony (Keyly) Watts of French Lick, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy Lee and Betty Mae Watts.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Rd., French Lick with Rev. Darrel Land and Rev. Wade Allen officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Russell Behringer

Russell W. Behringer of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Bedford, died Friday, December 4, 1998, at his residence.  Born on October 16, 1973, in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of Charles and JoAnn (Spies) Behringer.

Surviving are his mother JoAnn Behringer of Heltonville, IN; two brothers, John Behringer of Bedford, IN, and Charles R. Behringer of Heltonville, IN; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Sies of Mitchell, IN; one nephew and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father in 1989.

He was a self-employed carpenter and also worked for Bill Jones Construction.

Services for Russell Behringer will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 9th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Braden officiating.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.


Geneva Richardson

 Geneva O. Richardson, 93, of Orleans, passed away at 8:05 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Paoli Health and Living Community.
She was born on September 11, 1922 in Washington County, Kentucky, the daughter of Henderson and Amanda (Kays) Hahn.
She married Cletus Richardson on June 1, 1940 and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1998.
She was a homemaker and an active member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church serving a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She is survived by one son, Mike Richardson (Patty) of Orleans; one daughter, Theda Fisher (John) of Orleans; seven grandchildren, Kelly L. Sage, Kristy D. Richardson, Karen D. Pokorney, Brooke Clark, Kyle D. Richardson, Blair Stewart, Barrett Fisher; twelve great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers and ten sisters.
The funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 12 at Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Orleans with Reverend Michael Williams and Pastor Wade Judy officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery, Orleans.

Sandra Asbell

 Sandra Faye Asbell, 54, of French Lick, passed away at 4:12 PM, Sunday, October 13, 2013 at IU Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.

Sandra was born December 12, 1958 in Washington, Indiana, to Richard and Helen (Nicholson) Asbell.

She was a 1978 graduate of Springs Valley High School, was member of the American Legion Post #76 Auxiliary and Bethel Church in Orangeville. Sandra had previously worked at Medco Center, Crane, First Chance Center and Integra Bank. One of the things that she loved doing was her volunteer work at the First Chance Center in Paoli.

She is survived by her brothers, Lee Asbell of Shoals, Bill Asbell, Randall Asbell, and Donald Asbell all of West Baden Springs, Mike Asbell of Ohio and Tim Asbell, Paoli, sisters, Judy Cox of West Baden Springs, Donna K. Asbell of French Lick and Pam Asbell of Jasper. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers, Roger Asbell, Jim Asbell, and Steven Asbell and a sister, Diana Robbins.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2013 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Rd., French Lick, with Rev. David Conley officiating. Burial at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals. Freida Gratzer

Freida F. Gratzer of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 6, 1998, at her residence.   Born on January 23, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Martha (Blevins) Fox.  She married Bill Gratzer on March 11, 1947, and he died in October, 1984.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmy and Billy Gratzer, both of Bedford, IN; three daughters:  Cathy Clark and Paula Tyree, both of Bedford, IN, and Carolyn Lindley of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Charles "Tom" and Jerry L. Fox, both of Bedford, IN; three sisters, Judy Callahan and Kathie Wicker, both of Bedford, IN, and Pansy Dawson of Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Patricia Ann Gratzer; one brother, James Fox; and two sisters, Juanita and Louise Fox.

She retired from RCA in Bloomington and was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 Ladies Auxiliary.

There will be private services for Frieda Gratzer on Wednesday, December 9th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.  Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.  There will be no visitation at the mortuary.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Thornton Memorial Boys Club.


Mary Newlin

 Mary Lee Newlin (Harris) 84, of Naples, FL, passed away on October 12, 2015 at AVOW Hospice in Naples, Florida.
She was born December 26, 1930 in Sulphur Springs, Indiana, the daughter of Clyde and Berniece (Mock) Harris.
She married William Clyde Newlin who preceded her in death
She worked as a Purchasing Agent at Link Belt for 30 years. She was a member of Kingsway Christian Church in Indianapolis. She graduated from Hardinsburg High School in 1946.
She is survived by one sister, Sheila Harris-Schutz of Naples, Florida; two brothers, Donald Harris of Hope, Indiana and Robert Harris of Orleans; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Patricia Newlin Simpkins and a sister, Thelma Myers.
The funeral will be at the Hardinsburg Christian Church on Monday, October 19 at 10:00 AM with Mike Blevins officiating. Burial will follow at the Hardinsburg Cemetery.

Charles Ashby

 Charles Wendell “Willie” Ashby, 57, of West Baden, passed away at 6:25 AM, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at his residence.

Willie was born May 2, 1957 in Russellville, Kentucky, to Ethridge and Gertrude (Arnold) Ashby. He married Carolyn Jo Tuell on August 7, 2003 and she survives.

He had previously worked at Morrian Sawmill. He attended Beechwood Christian Church and was an avid collector and loved doing woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jo Ashby of West Baden, daughters, Crystal May Ashby, Tabitha Marie Ashby, Samantha Rose Beavers, and Daisy Lynn Ashby all of French Lick and eleven grandchildren, Deacon, Jasmine, Lillian, Zane, Tucker, Octavia, Olivia, Paxton, Trevan, Aurora and Zoey. He is also survived by his brothers, Garvin, Don, and Doyle Ashby of French Lick and Phillip Ashby of West Baden, and sister, Judy "Darlene" Grieco of Fresno, California and the daughters’ mother, Tammy (Brown) Ashby of French Lick.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Morris Gilbert and Buell "Buck" Ashby, and sisters, Agnes O'Dell, Gaynelle Jones, and Betty Schultz.

Friends may call from from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Eleanore Maze

Eleanore Maze of Bedford, IN, died Monday, December 7, 1998, at her residence.  Born on November 27, 1927, in Ebensee, Austria, she was the daughter of Ledwig and Sophia Klehschmid.   She married Harold O. Maze on September 18, 1950, in Linz, Austria, and he survives.

Also surviving are three sons:  Harold W. Maze of Daphne, AL, Robert D. Maze of Bloomington, IN, and Ronald K. Maze of Kokomo, IN; one brother, Ludwig Klehschmid of Austria; two sisters, Hedwig Klehschmid  and Christina Klehschmid, both of Austria; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two sisters.

She retired from M. Fine & Sons in Bedford after twenty-six years and was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.

Services for Eleanore Maze will be at 10:30 Thursday, December 10th, at the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  There will be private visitation.


Donna Conley

 Donna Lou (Bush) Conley, 67, of Orleans, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 1:18 AM at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, IN.
She was born on March 25, 1948 in Bedford, IN, the daughter of Donald Max and Adren Louisa “Lou” (Pridemore) Bush.
She married David Conley on September 17, 1966 and he survives. They have enjoyed the great adventure of life as best friends. On August 8, they enjoyed one last dance together. This is a moment and memory that is cherished by our dad and family.
She was a member of Bethel Church in Orleans and graduated from Mitchell High School class of 1966.
She is survived by her husband, her son, Donald and Dana Conley of Hagerstown, MD; and two daughters Deetra and Bobby Busick, and Davona and Tab Street, both of Orleans. She is survived by eight grandchildren; Danielle (Conley) and Ryan Baker of Liberty Center, OH, David, Donna Jo and Destiny Conley of Hagerstown, MD, Hope and Linza Busick and Tavin Street all of Orleans, Haley (Street) and Jarrett Beach of Greenville, IN, one great-grandchild, Braylen Baker; one sister, Judy (Vencil) Crews and one brother, William Scott Bush both of Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
An obituary only gives a brief glimpse of a life well lived. Donna loved her family dearly. She will be missed by all who were touched by her life. The years have gone by so quickly and things have changed for us all. But the love that we still have for our Mom and Grandma; is the same love as when we were small

James Weikert

 James C. “Jim” Weikert, age 77, Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 2:53 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, Jasper, Indiana.

Jim was born on August 12, 1934 in Dubois County, Indiana to John and Elizabeth (Nolan) Weikert. He married Billie Lea Dixon on August 11, 1962 and she survives.

He was a 1952 graduate of Dubois High School and retired from IMI as a Cement Mason. He was a member of the Crystal Community Church and had served on the Church Board for many years. He had also served as treasurer of the Crystal Community Cemetery and on the board of the Crystal Community Club. He was a 30 year member of the Local 692, the Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Organization. He faithfully attended the Healthy Hearts Club and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Lea Weikert of Jasper, son, Tom Weikert of French Lick, daughters, Kathy Hazelwood of French Lick, Denise Gutgsell of Celestine and Liz Workman of Jasper, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Weikert of French Lick, Harold Weikert of Dubois, George Weikert of Lawrenceville, Illinois and David Weikert of Dubois, and sisters, Martha Emge of Martinsville and Mary Cobb of Mansfield, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sarah Annabelle Beck.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Crystal Community Church with Rev. Mike Stout and Rev. Darrell Wineinger officiating. The family will receive friends, Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home and again on Monday, May 21, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will be in the Crystal Community Cemetery, Crystal, Indiana with military graveside rites.

Elsie Hawkins

Elsie Lucille Hawkins of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on April 7, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Stanley and Mettie (Bowman) Hunter.  She married James W. Hawkins on December 19, 1946, in Lawrence County, and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Janice McCracken of Heltonville, IN; one son, William W. Hawkins of Springville, IN; two grandsons, Thad and Jamie McCracken of Heltonville, IN; two step-grandchildren, Hope Colburn and Ryan Poole; two sisters, Eunice Gratzer of Bedford, IN, and Helen Beyers of Heltonville, IN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Hunter.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Mundell Christian Church.  She also attended Erie United Methodist Church.

Services for Elsie Hawkins will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Mundell Christian Church Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.


Braelyn Hendley

 Braelyn Rae-Anne Hendley, 9 weeks, of Franklin, Indiana died Sunday, October 4, 2015, at 4:47 pm at Riley Children Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born July 23, 2015 in Bedford, Indiana, the daughter of Autumn Danielle Grissom.
She is survived by her mother, Autumn of Franklin, Indiana. Grandparents Michelle and Russell Ingle of Orleans, Stephen Grissom of Mitchell, Indiana and Tammy and John Endris of Bedford, Indiana. Great grandparents Allen and Sarah Hendley of Seymour, Indiana, Cathy McFarland of Orleans, Marlena and Randy Swartz of Mitchell, Indiana and Marjorie Ingle of Paoli, Indiana. Great great grandparents Debra and John Perkins of Brownstown, Indiana and Cecil and Nancy Melton of Mitchell, Indiana.
The funeral will be Friday, October 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Spice Valley Baptist Church in Mitchell, Indiana with Pastor Mike Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Spice Valley Baptist Church Cemetery

David Wells

 David C. "Chris" Wells, Jr. age 46, Shoals, passed away at 12:14 PM, on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Martin County Health Care, Loogootee, Indiana.

Chris was born on September 11, 1965 in Dubois County, Indiana to David C. and Lana (Nolan) Wells.

He was a 1984 graduate of Shoals High School where he had played high school sports. He had attended Vincennes University and had previously worked at US Gypsum. He was a member of the Ames Chapel United Methodist Church and was an avid Purdue fan.

He is survived by his parents, David and Lana Wells of Shoals, brothers, Chester Wells of Marengo and Daniel Wells of Shoals, sister, Dina (Wells) Radtke of Shoals, nieces and nephews, Akela Rose Wells, Xavier Wells, Isaiah Wells, David Jameson Wells, Ezekiel Wells, and Ragan Wells.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Junius and Edna Nolan, Chester Wells and Elizabeth Owens.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family will receive friends, Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM and then again on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Mary Browning

Mary Elsie Browning of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center.  Born on October 30, 1908, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of George and Evaline (Williams) DeFord.  She married Roy Browning on June 29, 1929, in Jeffersonville, IN, and he died November 22, 1983.

Surviving are one son, Richard R. Browning of Tulsa, OK; one daughter, Rebecca Wells of California; one sister, Mrs. Inez Ford of Akron, OH; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Sue Neal and Rheadawn Klumpp; five brothers, Ray, Herbert, James, Walter, and Loran DeFord; two sisters, Ida DeFord and Estelle McCormick.

She was a homemaker and attended the Bedford Calvary Chapel.

Services for Mary Browning will at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11th, at Calvary Church with Pastor Jim McDowell officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadows Church of God Cemetery on SR 446.  Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and at the church on Friday morning from 9-11 a.m.


Frederick Goller Sr.

 Frederick L. Goller Sr., 79, of Orleans, passed away on Friday, October 02, 2015 at 3:25 AM at Salem Crossing.
He was born June 3, 1936 in Jasper, IN, the son of William and Elva (Cooper) Goller.
He married Janice Taylor on June 29, 1958 and she survives
He was employed at Contel Telephone for thirty-three years and retired in 1993 from Verizon. He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Orleans
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years; three sons, William “Bill” (Waneta) Goller of Salem, Thomas D. (Denise) Goller of Corydon, IN, Frederick Lee (Karen) Goller Jr. of New Albany, IN; one daughter, Cynthia Roney (Tom) of Orleans; one sister, Patsy Allen of West Baden Springs, IN; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sister, Carolyn Blevins and Alice Mae.
The funeral will be on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Reverend Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00.


Violet Carroll 

Violet Betsy Carroll, 103, of French Lick, passed away at 4:45 PM, Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center in French Lick.

Violet was born October 25, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois, to Nicholas and Theresa (Berensten) Fogelstad. She was married Thomas R. Pedersen and James T. Carroll and they both preceded her in death.

She had previously worked as a secretary for the Read-Murdock Grocery Company and was a member of the Elon Christian Church. She enjoyed dancing at the Sr. Citizen's Center .

She is survived by her grandsons, Kurt Pedersen, Indianapolis, Mark Pedersen, Evansville, Michael Pedersen, Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Tommy Pedersen, French Lick, granddaughter, Kristen Sanders, Chicago, Illinois, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Pedersen, Fishers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and sons, Tom and Gary Pedersen.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, June 9, 2013 from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Ames Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Burial will be in Ames Chapel Cemetery, Paoli.

Norma Inman

Norma Mae Inman of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, December 9, 1998, at Hospitality House.  Born on December 15, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Clovis G. "Buck" and Melva Louise (Craig) Lavender.  She married Forrest "Johnnie" Inman on November 12, 1949, and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Melanie Rainey of Bedford, IN; one grandson, and one cousin.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a homemaker of of Baptist faith.
Services for Norma Inman will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Lowell Roberts officiating.   Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.


Kathryn Waynick

Kathryn L. Waynick, 97, of Orleans passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 9:00 PM at Paoli Health and Living Community.
She was born on September 26, 1917 in Borden, Indiana, the daughter of Jess and Edith (Fisher) Herle
She married Ray Randolph Waynick on September 27, 1941 at Randolph Field Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and he preceded her in death on summer of 1944.
She worked at her family business as an owner of Herle’s Café’ for many years. She was also a teacher for three years in Lebanon, IN. She was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church and Orleans Phi Beta Psi. She graduated from Orleans High School class of 1935 and from Indiana University with a teaching and music degree.
She is survived by her daughter, Leah Rae Waynick of Orleans; one niece, Linda (Robert) Harris of Orleans; one great niece, Kristin (Marco) Deckard of South Port, IN; one great nephew, Scott (Dana) Harris of Liberty, Missouri; four great great nieces and nephews and 2 great great great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one great niece, Tammy Walker.
The funeral will be on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM the Orleans United Methodist Church with Reverend Curtis Hurley and Reverend Jacqueline Munson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

Mackasyn Cassidy

Mackasyn Charles Cassidy, infant son of Justice Michelle Cassidy, of West Baden, passed away at 10:04 PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He is survived by his mother, Justice Cassidy of West Baden, grandparents, Charles and Dara Cassidy of West Baden, and Janna Lagenour of Jasper, great grandmothers, Jewell Agan of Sellersburg, Pam Doty of Orleans and Kay Goldman of French Lick, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death were great grandparents, Hoover Agan, Charles Cassidy, and Evelyn Bush.

Services will be held 5:30 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Rd., French Lick, with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating . Friends may call from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary.

John Staver

John Fredrick Staver of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 10, 1998, at the Westview Manor Nursing Center.  Born on February 23, 1908, in Dayton, OH (Montgomery County, OH), he was the son of Fred M. and Ida M. (Wombold) Staver.  He married Thelma Louise Willman on August 18, 1933, in Muncie, IN, and she preceded him in death on August 13, 1988.

Surviving are two sons, Fred Staver of Bedford, IN, and John Staver of Manhatten, KS; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister, Helen.

He was a retired accountant.

A graveside service was held on Monday, December 14th, at Ellerton Cemetery in Ellerton, OH.  Arrangements and services were handled by Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.  There was no calling.


 

James Metcalf

 James Richard Metcalf, 93, of Orleans, formally of Urbana, Illinois; passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Paoli Health and Living Community.

He was born February 6, 1922 in Urbana, Illinois, the son of McCellen and Cleo (Foutch) Metcalf.

He had a Master Degree. He worked in engineering and retired from the University of Illinois. He was a member of the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.

A private burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois.


Rebecca Cassidy

Rebecca Sue Cassidy, 33, of Shelbyville, formerly of French Lick, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in Shelbyville, Indiana.
Rebecca was born February 12, 1977 in Paoli, Indiana, to the late Charles Lee Cassidy II and Pamela (Park) Doty.

Rebecca had previously worked at the Heritage House in Shelbyville. She loved swimming, biking, gardening, and spending time outdoors.

She is survived by her stepfather and mother, Walter and Pamela Doty of Orleans, sons, Scott Andrew Cassidy of Orleans and Ethan Spencer of Shelbyville, daughter, Courtney Michelle Walters of St. Paul, North Carolina, and one grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Lee Cassidy III of West Baden and sisters, Tammy J. Cassidy of Paoli and Michelle L. Mink of Orleans.

Preceding her in death were her father and a niece, Samantha Apple.

Services will be held Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Burial will be in Ames Chapel Cemetery, Paoli, Indiana. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until the service time on Sunday, at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary.

Lois Holmes

Lois Electra Holmes of Bedford, IN, formerly of Pumpkin Center in Orange County, IN, died Thursday, December 10, 1998, at Westview Manor Nursing Center.  Born on August 4, 1905, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Herman Cornwell and Etta Burgess Cornwell.  She married J. Earl Holmes on June 8, 1924, and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1983.

Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Wuanita Holmes of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Julie Bloom of Holly, MI, and A.J. Holmes of Indianapolis, IN; two step-grandchildren, Rick Catlett of New Albany, IN, and Glenda Baker of Bedford, IN; and one great-granddaughter, Aimee Nickless of Indianapolis, IN.  She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Durward Holmes; and one sister, Audra Trinkle.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

Services for Lois Holmes will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Catlett officiating.   Burial will follow in Stampers Creek Cemetery in Orange County, IN.  Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.


Paul Jacobs

 Paul David “Shorty” Jacobs, 71, of Orleans, passed away at 1:48 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at IU Health Paoli Hospital.
He was born on March 6, 1944 in Orleans, IN, the son of Paul R. and Emily Mae (Hamilton) Jacobs.

He married Adrian (Smith) Jacobs on May 28, 1965 and she survives
He worked at Paoli Inc. for 33 years and was a member of the Orleans Christian Church. He was a friend to the Amish. He loved the outdoors, and his dog, Sissy.

He is survived by his wife of Orleans; two sons, Timothy (Kellie) Jacobs of Plainfield, IN and Lance (Jeri) Jacobs of Orleans; five grandchildren, Ruby, Isabelle, Garrett, and Emily Jacobs, Caitie Shelton; one great grandson, Brantley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita Kay Slaughter.

The funeral will be at 2:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time.

Clarence M. Flick 

Clarence M. "Tuffy" Flick, 73, of French Lick, passed away at 4:41 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2013 at IU Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.


Tuffy was born April 17, 1940 in Orange County, IN, to Harold and Eithel (Bowden) Flick.

He had previously been employed with the Town of French Lick, Orange County, and Crane Naval Depot. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the French Lick American Legion Post #76. He had a love for animals.

He is survived by his mother, Eithel F. Flick of French Lick, brothers, Jim (Mary Beth) Flick of Jasper and Don (Norma) Flick of Indianapolis, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his father, Harold Glen Flick, brother, Doug Flick, and sister, Linda Bough.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Ames Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating.

 Marian Cole

Marian Ellen Cole of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 12, 1998, at Bedford Medical Center.   Born on April 9, 1954, she was the daughter of Arch and Kathleen (O'Brien) Bridwell.  She married Stephen Wayne Cole, and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kelly Ryan and Susan Cole, both of Bedford, IN; two sons, Chris Ryan and Steve Cole, both of Bedford; one brother, John Bridwell of Bedford, IN, and two grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a long distance telephone operator for AT&T.

Services for Marian Cole will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Dirus Dustin officiating.   Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.


Glen Mitchell

 Glen Thomas Mitchell, 66, of Orleans, passed away at 3:05 AM on Sunday, September 06, 2015 at IU Health Paoli.

He was born March 22, 1949 in Beattyville, KY, the son of Theodore and Lucille (Ross) Mitchell.

He worked at Carpenter Body Works for many years and was a self-employed painter. He was a member of the Orleans Christian Church.

He was survived by one son, Nick Mitchell of Orleans; a companion, Pauline Laich of Orleans; three brothers, Theodore “Sonny”, Dwight, Charles Mitchell all of KY; one sister, Norma Land of Richmond, KY; one grandson, Tommy Mitchell of Orleans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sarah Beth Mitchell.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.


Marlene Flick

 Marlene Sue Flick, 76, of French Lick, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 12:20 AM, Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center in French Lick.

Marlene was born March 18, 1937 in Orange County, Indiana, to Oscar Ray “Bob” Case and Bessie Opal (Moore) Case.

She attended French Lick High School and graduated from the House of James Cosmetology School in New Albany, Indiana. She had owned her own beauty shop for more than 40 years. She married George Russell Flick on October 8, 1958 and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1999. To this union they were blessed with two children David and Dianna.

Marlene was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and grandmother. Marlene lived her life with Jesus, surrounded by family, friends, laughter and fun. She was influential in the lives of many and her legacy surpasses her life in those privileged to know her.

Marlene enjoyed camping, gardening, was member of the BPW, and was a volunteer on many committees throughout her lifetime. One of the projects that she had worked on was the Community Christmas Project. She had attended Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union as well as the United Pentecostal Church.

Cherishing her memory is her son David Flick of French Lick, her loving sister, Judy Weikert and her husband Denny of French Lick, granddaughter, Paige, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar Ray Case and Bessie Opal (Moore) Case, her husband, Russell Flick and two daughters, Susan Case and Dianna Hardman.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating with interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick. Family will receive friends at the mortuary on Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM and again on Sunday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

Harriet Williams

Harriet Thelma Williams of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 13, 1998, at the Hospitality House.   Born on January 14, 1905, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Dennis W. and Ora J. (Smith) Talley.  She married George O. Williams on June 23, 1923, and he died January 29, 1985.

Surviving are seven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, twenty-two great-great grandchildren, and two nephews.  She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Williams; one daughter, Geneva Kern; one brother, and one sister.

She was a homemaker and was a life-long member of the Free Methodist Church and the Missionary Society of the Free Methodist Church.

There will be private graveside services for Harriet Williams at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Carder officiating.  The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.  There will be no visitation or service at the mortuary.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.


Robert Oyler

 Robert “Bob” Lorin Oyler, 87, of Orleans, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Mitchell Manor.

He was born on March 16, 1928 in Orleans, Indiana, the son of Lorin and Berta (Hardman) Oyler.

He was a farmer for many years and a member of Liberty Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed horses and playing gospel music. He enjoyed competitive barrel horse racing in his younger years. Over the years, he played music with others in Loogootee at the Opera House and various nursing homes. Prior to moving to Mitchell Manor, he enjoyed playing music at the Orleans Farmer’s Market every week. He never missed an opportunity to listen to gospel groups that would sing at Mitchell Manor.

He is survived by one niece, Judith (Ralph) Ikerd of Orleans; one step brother, Adrien (Pauline) Kaserman of St. Petersburg, FL; one great niece, Liz (Jeremy) Smith of Orleans; three nephews, Jason (Amy) Slaughter of Parkville, MO, Robert Ikerd of Orleans, Drew Ikerd of Orleans; nine great great nieces and nephews, Jaxton Smith, Luke Slaughter, Hadleigh Smith, Chandler Ikerd, Kendra Slaughter, Elle Ikerd, Noah Slaughter, Korbin Ikerd, Addison Ikerd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Vivian Price; one brother, Tom Oyler; one great niece, Kellie Slaughter; one cousin, Bill Stroud.

The funeral will be on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Christian Cemetery, Orleans with military rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.

Virginia L. Flick
Born: January 10, 1924
Died: April 10, 2014

The last surviving of the twelve children of George Amos and Lora King Flick, Virginia L. Flick was born in the Newton Stewart area where she lived until moving to French Lick during her High School years.

After graduating from French Lick High School in 1942, she married H. Parke Flick on February 12, 1943 and they were happily married until his death on August 19, 2008.

After a month of illness and waning health, she spent her final days in the IU Hospice House in Bloomington with her children and family by her side.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved cooking. She was an avid gardener who dearly loved beautiful flower beds as well as feeding and watching the birds in her back yard.

With her husband, she owned and operated Parke Flick Clothier in French Lick for more than twenty years. A longstanding member of the French Lick United Methodist Church, she was active in the United Methodist Women.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son Parke Kinsey Flick.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sharon Johnson Flick and grandsons Aaron and Mark Flick; her daughter Liz and husband C. B. Charnes, grandsons Cliff, Clint, and Curt Charnes and their spouses Jennifer, Tara, and Julie, and great grandchildren Grace, Olivia, Caroline, Kinsey, Madeline, Taylor and Payton Charnes; son Bill and wife Melanie, grandsons Josh and fiancé Amanda, Ben and wife Molly, and great grandchildren Gabriel, Ben and Lydia Flick.

She loved the Valley and the people in it, and was especially fond of all those who helped and befriended her in so many ways including taking care of her house, transportation to church, and visiting with her through the years. The family wishes to express appreciation for the kindness of so many.

She enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Dancing with the Stars, and the Bachelor. She regularly reminded her children that especially as you age, you have to find something to make you laugh every day, regularly reading the comics and clipping cartoons she found funny. Humor was so important to her that toward the end she looked around her room in the Hospice House and quoted Oscar Wilde “either this wallpaper goes or I do”.

To Mom, Granny, Great Granny, we hope this made you laugh, you were greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, April 14, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Indiana with Rev. Doug Finney and Rev. Linda Watson officiating. Burial will be at Moores Ridge Cemetery in Frenc h Lick. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 13, 2014 and again on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 9:00 AM until service time at the mortuary.

Charles Herrington

Charles R. Herrington of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, December 13, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center.  Born on November 29, 1921, in Hattiesburg, MS, he was the son of Benjamin H. and Cordia (Wilks) Herrington.  He married Clara Exell Parker on February 15, 1943, and she survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Wanda Mills of Mitchell, and IN, and Sandra Bugh of Bedford, IN; one sister, Flossie M. Peacock of Mobile, AL; and four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by six brothers. 

He was a World War II Army veteran with the Dixie Division of U.S. Army Camp in Shelby, MS, and retired from AT&T.  He was a member of Pioneers of America, the Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, and the Mitchell First Baptist Church.

Services for Charles Herrington will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16th, at the Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating.  Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, Mitchell.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.


Eric Lawyer

Eric Jason Lawyer, 43, of Orleans, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 1:38 PM.

He was born November 2, 1971 in Salem, IN, the son of Randy Lawyer and Patricia Penn
He married Catina (Bell) Lawyer on July 14, 2012 and she survives.
He worked for the Town of Orleans and Hancock Trucking. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and a member of the American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.
He is survived by his wife of Orleans; father, Randy Lawyer of Orleans; mother, Patricia Penn of Florida; two sons, Jason Lawyer of Queens, NY, Damian Hall of French Lick; two step sons, Ryan Terrell of Mitchell, Dylan Woolston of Orleans; one step daughter, Katelyn (Edwin) Grace of Orleans; one brother, Chris Lawyer of Virginia Beach, Virginia; maternal grandparents, Bill and Martha Penn; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jada Lawyer; one sister, Leslie Lawyer and his paternal grandparents.
The funeral will be Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post # 69.

Dennis Granger

 Dennis H. Granger, 52, of French Lick, formerly of Brazil, passed away at 9:12 PM, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center, French Lick, Indiana.

Dennis was born August 11, 1961 in Brazil, IN, to Jacquelyn Rhoads. He married Betty Byers on March 10, 2006 and she survives.

He had previously worked in furniture factories and was known to rebuild furniture. He also enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his mother, Jacquelyn Rhoads of Indianapolis, wife, Betty Granger of French Lick, step sons, Jimmy Nieves of Evansville, Terry, Randy, and James Nieves all of Alliance, Ohio, step daughters, Lisa Harrell of Elnora, Tina Nieves, Anna Pitcher and Rachael Mandujano all of Washington and Juanita Townsend of Alliance, Ohio, and several grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Darren Granger of Indianapolis.

Preceding him in death were his father and a brother, Danny Granger.

There will be no services as Cremation was chosen as final disposition.

Cora Embree

Cora Celia (Short) Embree of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, December 14, 1998, at Westview Manor.   Born on January 18, 1905, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Samuel R. and Anna (Chase) Short.  She married John Reed Embree on April 4, 1923, and he survives.

Also surviving are three sons:  Hollis R. Embree of Venice, Fl, Samuel D. Embree of Greenwood, IN, and Michael N. Embree of Marengo, IL; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by three brothers:  Richard, Morris and Ermal Short; and two sisters:  Mary Hall and Ava Short Terrell.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Williams, IN.  She was a sixty year member of the Williams Home Demonstration Club and a a member of the Lawrence County Women's Chorus.

Services for Cora Embree will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Leroy Inman officiating.   Burial will follow in Williams Cemetery.  Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.


Leon Cheatham

 Leon H. Cheatham, 87, of Orleans, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 3:30 PM at his residence

He was born March 25, 1928 in Willisburg, KY, the son of Acey and Elsie (Castill) Cheatham

He married Connie (Stalker) Cheatham on February 5, 1951 and she survives
He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church and a member of the Orleans American Legion Post 69. He worked several years at Traveler Radio and later worked at Carpenter Body Works until his retirement. He was veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of Orleans; three sons, Johnny (Phyllis) Cheatham of West Baden, Gary (Sharon) Cheatham of Orleans, Michael (Cheryl) Cheatham of Orleans; six grandchildren, Brian, Andy, Sara, Karen, Lucas and Lindsey; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Nettie Sims of Louisville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister

The funeral will be on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Mount Horeb Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion Post #69

Joe'l Giardine-Cassidy

Joe'l Lake Giardine-Cassidy, age 36 of West Baden Springs, Indiana, passed away at 10:15 AM, Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky.

Joe'l was born on September 25, 1975 to Joel Giardine and Shirley Jean Lake. She married Patrick Cassidy on June 9, 2002 and he survives.

She grew up in Levittown, Pennsylvania and was a 1994 graduate of Pennsbury High School in Fallsington, Pennsylvania where she was a proud flautist in the internationally known "Long Orange Line" Marching Band. She attended Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pennsylvania before working for Empire Blue Cross in Manhattan and later Aetna in Philadelphia. In Indiana she assisted in the Dental Practice of Dr. Sills. Joe'l was a happily adopted Hoosier and most enjoyed her immediate and extended family and her community. She was anticipating entering her emerald green pickles in next year's county fair. Joe'l eagerly accepted the challenge of home schooling her adored daughter, Bella. She also was very involved with her daughter with Acorns to Oaks Home School Coop, Keepers at Home, and 4-H. She is also a member of Dogwood Christian Church.

She is survived by her father, Joel Giardine of Levittown, Pennsylvania, mother, Shirley Lake of Martinsville, Indiana, and her loving husband and daughter, Patrick and Bella Cassidy of West Baden Springs. She is also survived by her in-laws, Jim and Judy Cassidy of Orleans, grandmothers, Irene Lake of Osprey, Florida and Rose Giardine of Levittown, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Missy and Darren Tye of West Baden Springs, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Richard Sipes

Richard H. Sipes of Harrison, OH, formerly of Lawrence County, IN, died Tuesday, December 15, 1998, the Victory Park Nursing Home in Norwood, OH.  He was born on January 5, 1911, in Springville, IN.  He married Ruth Tanksley, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, John R. Sipes of Harrison, OH; one grandson, and two great-grandchildren.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a retired postal employee.

Services for Richard Sipes will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20th, at the Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating.   Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Saturday and from noon until the service time on Sunday at the Chastain Funeral Home.


Elmer Gray

 Elmer C. "Sonny" Gray, 82, of French Lick, passed away at 12:20 AM, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli. 

Elmer was born July 6, 1931 in Pennsylvania. He was married to Virginia Gray and she preceded him in death in 1981 

Sonny had previously worked as a coal miner in Pennsylvania and also with Exide Battery. He was a member of the Red Quarry Christian Church where he had been baptized and also attended Beechwood Christian Church and the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church

He is survived by his loving caregivers, Hugh and Donna Jennings of West Baden and sisters, Eleanor Weiland, Margaret Gray, Dorothy Storms, Shirley Hoover and Betty Jean Ashurst. 

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, sisters, Sarah Gray and Nancy Foster and a brother Norman Thomas. 

A Celebration of Sonny’s Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Rd., French Lick, with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary. A scattering of the cremains will be held at a later date.

Russell Johnson

Russell Johnson of Oolitic, IN, died Tuesday, December 15, 1998, at South West Regional Hospital in Fort Meyers.  Born on June 2, 1912, in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of Clarence A. and Mae (Alcorn) Johnson.  He married Maxine H. King on May 10, 1935, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Tracy E. Johnson of Rochester Hills, MI; three grandchildren, two nephews, and three nieces.  He was preceded in death by one son, Terry R. Johnson, and one sister, Hazel M. Riley.

He was retired from the U.S. Post Office in Bedford.   He was a member of Bedford First Baptist Church and an associate member of the North Side Baptist in Ft. Meyers, FL.  A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.  He was a member of Bedford Lodge #14 F&AM, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and the Gideons.

Services for Russell Johnson will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 18th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Jon Lineback officiating.   Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.  Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.  Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m.  The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to the Gideons Memorial Bible Plan.


 

Donna Bush Conley

 Donna Lou (Bush) Conley, 67, of Orleans, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 1:18 AM at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, IN.

She was born on March 25, 1948 in Bedford, IN, the daughter of Donald Max and Adren Louisa “Lou” (Pridemore) Bush.

She married David Conley on September 17, 1966 and he survives. They have enjoyed the great adventure of life as best friends. On August 8, they enjoyed one last dance together. This is a moment and memory that is cherished by our dad and family.

She was a member of Bethel Church in Orleans and graduated from Mitchell High School class of 1966.

She is survived by her husband, her son, Donald and Dana Conley of Hagerstown, MD; and two daughters Deetra and Bobby Busick, and Davona and Tab Street, both of Orleans. She is survived by eight grandchildren; Danielle (Conley) and Ryan Baker of Liberty Center, OH, David, Donna Jo and Destiny Conley of Hagerstown, MD, Hope and Linza Busick and Tavin Street all of Orleans, Haley (Street) and Jarrett Beach of Greenville, IN, one great-grandchild, Braylen Baker; one sister, Judy (Vencil) Crews and one brother, William Scott Bush both of Orleans.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

An obituary only gives a brief glimpse of a life well lived. Donna loved her family dearly. She will be missed by all who were touched by her life. The years have gone by so quickly and things have changed for us all. But the love that we still have for our Mom and Grandma; is the same love as when we were small

Jane Hamilton

Jane Marie "Mutt" (Ratliff) Hamilton, age 57, of French Lick, Ind., died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 12:20 AM at her Residence in French Lick, Ind.

She was born on March 16, 1949 to the late Virgil Ratliff and the late Sophia (Sullivan) Ratliff. She married Ronald A. Hamilton.

Mutt had attended Springs Valley High School and had been employed previously by T'Berry's Cafe and Villager Restaurant as a cook. She was also an avid Mushroom Hunter.

She is survived by her husband Ronald A. Hamilton of French Lick, Ind.

Roy Heironimus

Roy Heironimus of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 15, 1998, at Westview Manor Nursing & Rehab Center.  Born on August 31, 1913, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Lee and Ada (Bruce) Heironimus.  He married Catherine Heironimus in 1943, and she died August 6, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, Roger Heironimus of Maryville, TN, and Tom Heironimus of Safety Harbor, FL; one brother, Walter Heironimus of Shoals, IN; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Rose Strosneider, and one brother, Clarence Heironimus.

A 1931 graduate of Bedford High School, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

There will be graveside services for Roy Heironimus at 11 a.m. Friday, December 18th at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. James Burkes officiating.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be considered to the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.


Helen J. Harris

 Helen June Harris, age 84 of French Lick, Indiana, passed away at 7:36 PM, Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center, French Lick, Indiana.

Helen was born on June 29, 1928 in Orange County, Indiana to Louis and Bernice (Pinnick) Shipman. She married Wayne “Fido” Harris on July 2, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2001.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union.

She is survived by son, Jerry (Pam) Harris of French Lick and daughter, Connie Knight of French Lick, four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grand children. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Lou Dewitt of Muncie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Harold Lee Shipman and sister, JoAnn Ross.

Connie Hodges

Connie Hodges of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center.  Born on February 8, 1934, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Floyd H. and Christinia (McCracken) Wever.  She married Ken Hodges on August 28, 1955, and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kenna Hodges, at home; two sons, Chris Hodges of California and Kay T. Hodges of Bedford, IN; her mother, Christinia Wever of Bedford, IN; one brother, Guy Wever of Bedford, IN; one sister, Janis Nagenegast of Homestead, FL; and five grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 Auxiliary.

Jeffrey Kearby

 Jeffrey L. Kearby, 55, of Dubois, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at his residence .

Jeff was born on January 6, 1959 in French Lick to John and Bessie (Watts) Kearby. He married Laquita Schley on December 14, 2006 and she survives.

Jeff was a 1977 graduate of Springs Valley High School. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He had previously worked for Craftsman Construction, Jasper Lumber and the Lauth Group. He attended the Nicholson Valley Christian Church and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #76 in French Lick.

He is survived by his wife, Laquita Kearby of Lafayette, daughter, Krystal (Scott) Draughn of Indianapolis, step daughter, Brittany Shoaf of San Francisco, California, stepsons, Stanley Reid of Columbus and Robert Shoaf of Lafayette and seven grandchildren, Kennedy Kunkel, Hannah Draughn, James, Kamryn, and Shiley Reid, Maddock and Traven Shoaf. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet (David) Weaver of French Lick, Judy (Harold) Carlson of Santa Clara, California and Joyce Kearby of French Lick, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Glenn Kearby.

Eva Elizabeth Burford Fletcher of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at Hospitality House.  Born on February 27, 1911, she was the daughter of Ephriaiam and Josephine (Williams) Burford.  She married Bert H. Fletcher on September 30, 1933, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1985.

Surviving are four sons:  Dale H. Fletcher, Michael L. Fletcher, Thomas R. Fletcher, and George A. Fletcher, all of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Jeanine Spaulding of Bedford, IN; one brother, Carl Burford of La Harpe, IL; two sister, Mary Brides of Bedford, IN, and Rebecca Chase of St. Petersburg, FL; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one son, Duane E. Fletcher; one granddaughter, Christina Spaulding; two sisters, Lois Burford and Clara Brooking; and one brother, Bill Burford.

She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church.

Services for Eva Fletcher will be Saturday, December 19, 1998, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Johnny Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.


Eulah Kerby

 Eulah E. Kerby, 94, went home to be with the Lord at 10:14 AM on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center, French Lick.

Eulah was born on June 3, 1918 to Claude J and Mary Elva (Elliott) Boyd in Campbellsburg, Indiana. She was married on October 31, 1941 to the love of her life, Raymond Kerby, for nearly 61 years before he died on July 25, 1998.

Eulah was very active at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for nearly 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, great grandmother and a wonderful neighbor and friend to many in French Lick and West Baden.

Eulah is survived by her sons, Richard Elwood (Linda) Kerby of Hillham and Donald Carroll (Connie) Kerby of Paris, Kentucky and daughter, Cindy Lou (George) Kerby-Hinkle of Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren, for whom she had immeasurable love and adoration, Brad (Rhonda) and Jeff (Julie) Kerby, Jamie Kerby, Cori (Kevin) Hinkle Snyder and Cammie (Craig) Hinkle McGowan and seven great grandchildren, Isaiah, Elijah, and Sofia Kerby, Caleb and Christian Snyder and Mayleigh and Ila McGowan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, foster parents, Oscar and Lou Wininger, foster brother, Carrol Wininger, her oldest sister, Eathel McCoy who died 7 years ago at the age of 103 and other siblings, Fern Brewer, Leo Boyd, Loraine Boyd, Opel McClane, Edna White, Paul Boyd, and Harold Boyd, who died at 5 years of age. Her twin sister, Beulah Parish of Orleans, passed away two years ago.

T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, French Lick is in charge of the arrangements. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, French Lick with Rev. Doug Finney, Rev. Kevin Snyder and Rev. Wilma Bone officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the church, Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.

Icy Logsdon

Icy Mae Logsdon of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 17, 1998, at the Hospitality House.   Born on July 1, 1901, in Green County, KY, she was the daughter of William and Ellen (Chaudion) Buckner.  She married Homer Elbert Logsdon on July 17, 1926, and he died January 22, 1994.

Surviving are one daughter, Ellen Frances Burks of Bedford, IN; three half-sisters, Emma Hall, Mary Ratliff, and Allison Eugene Berry, all of Summersville, KY; and one grandson.  She was preceded in death by two sister, Valeria Thompson and Viola Skaggs.

She was a homemaker and attended the Liberty Church in Kentucky and the Free Methodist Church in Bedford.

Services for Icy Logsdon will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Carder officiating.   Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.  Friends may call from noon until the service time on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.


Janice Mahan

 Janice A. Mahan, 80, of French Lick, passed away at 5:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Paoli Health & Living Community in Paoli. 

Janice was born on September 13, 1932 in Bear Lake, MI, to Wayne and Opal (Sopher) Barlow.

She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in French Lick and had attended the old EUB Church and Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in French Lick.

She enjoyed cooking and working puzzle books and had previously worked as a cook at Villager Restaurant, Ted's Restaurant, and various other area restaurants in the area.

She is survived by son, Randall (Carletta) Mahan, French Lick, daughters, Diana Mahan, West Baden, Beverly (Steve) Mahan, French Lick, and Tracey Singelstad, French Lick, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Patsy Bankston, Niles, Michigan and her beloved cat, Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Tina Mahan, husband, Harry Mahan, and sister, Betty Scheffer.

Arrangements are being taken care of by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Indiana. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation was chosen as final disposition.


Myrtle Byers

Myrtle Byers of Springville, IN, died Friday, December 18, 1998, at her residence.  Born on August 25, 1924, in Lebanon, KY, she was the daughter of Emmett and Carrie (Bright) Gribbons.   She married Burl E. Byers in October, 1943, and he preceded her in death on January 22, 1989.

Surviving are one sister, Mabel Cole of New Castle, IN; one brother, Lewis Gribbons of Connersville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Burris.

She was a homemaker and of Protestant faith.

There will be graveside services for Myrtle Byers at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 21st, at the Zion Cemetery in Raleigh.  The Day & Carter Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.


 Donald E. Dean of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, December 18, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.  Born on June 29, 1931, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Emett and Crystal (Graber) Dean.  He married Della V. Pridemore on December 12, 1967, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, James M. Blackburn of Mitchell, IN, and Paul E. White, Jr. of Orleans, IN; seven daughters:  Laverne K. Brown of Kissimmee, FL, Sue Bogers of Florida, Ruth Ann Bradley of Orangeville, IN, Crystal L. Baxter of Bedford, IN, Sandy Snyder, Donna Burgess and Sheila R. Mills, all of Mitchell, IN; twenty-one grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.

He retired from Carpenter Body Works in 1981.  A United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8302 of Mitchell.

Services for Donald Dean will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 21st, at Haverly Mortuary.  Burial will be in the Mitchell Community Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by the Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 and the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the mortuary.


Ruth Wilson

Ruth Elizabeth Wilson of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, December 19, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.  Born on June 22, 1919, in Jennings County, IN, she was the daughter of James I. and Gladys (Liddle) Kinder.  She married Owen Wilson, and he died in 1960.

Surviving is one daughter, Libby Howard of Mitchell, IN.   She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lola Kinder.

A retired employee of Older Americans Services, she was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County, Eight & Forty No. 638, Bedford, and a past president of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary, Mitchell.

The body was cremated, and there will be no visitation or memorial service.  Chastain Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Joey Maul

 Joey S Maul, 53, of Paoli, passed away, Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his residence.

Joey was born September 14, 1959 in Lawrence County, IN, to Charles and Mary (Williams) Maul.

He was a 1977 graduate of Springs Valley High School and had attended Vincennes University, Berea College and Valdosta State University. He enjoyed woodworking and designing games and was well known locally for his wonderful artwork. Joey worked as a Graphic Designer and Webmaster.

He is survived by his brothers, Barry (Rita) Maul, Mitchell, Richard Hamilton, Greenville, South Carolina, Rex Hamilton, Tampa, Forida, Forrest (Rosie) Hamilton, St. Cloud, Florida, sisters, Janice (James) Crowder, Jeffersonville, and Iva Radcliff, Paoli, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary (Williams) Maul, sister,

Marilyn Enyart, and brother, Bill Maul.

Services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013, 11:00 AM at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Indiana 47432 with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Burial will be in Stampers Creek Cemetery, Paoli. Friends may call Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on Monday, May 20, 2012 from 9:00 AM until service time.

Kenneth Sheeks

Kenneth William "Bill" Sheeks of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, December 19, 1998, at his residence.  Born on August 3, 1939, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Kenneth and Lorena (Bass) Sheeks.  He married Janice Lee on May 27, 1961, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Terri Mounce and Traci Horner, both of Mitchell; one sister, Phyllis Cleveland of Silver Spring, MD; and three grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A 1958 graduate of Mitchell High School, he was a machinist at Preferred Technical Group and had served eight years as a member of the Bedford Headquarters Unit of Indiana National Guard.  He was active for twenty-five years in the Southern Trails District of Boy Scouts of America and was a recipient of the Order of the Arrow.  He was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ, and the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228, F&AM.

Services for Kenneth Sheeks will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22nd, at the Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Burris officiating.   Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.  Friends may  call from 4-9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the funeral home.  Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday by members of the Masonic Lodge No. 228, F&AM.  Master Masons will meet at the Masonic Lodge at 7 p.m.


Deborah McCune

 Deborah Ann McCune, age 52, of Marietta, Ga., died Friday, May 5, 2006, at her residence.

Born on July 11, 1953, she was the daughter of Vernon McCune and Thelma (Walters) McCune.

Debbie was a teacher in Marietta, GA and had previously taught in New Orleans and for the Army in Germany.

She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA.

She is survived by her Parents- Vernon & Thelma McCune of French Lick.

Nephew whom she help raise- Trae Facente of Marietta, GA

Uncles - Howard "Boob" McCune of French Lick & Walter McCune of Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her sister - Pamela McCune.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 9, 2006 & Wednesday morning, May 10, 2006 from 11 AM until the service time at the church.

Funeral service will be at Springs Valley United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 10, 2006 , Rev. Linda Watson officiating. Interment will be at Patoka Cemetery in French Lick, Ind.


Agnes Rominger

Agnes Rominger of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 19, 1998, at the Hospitality House.   Born on March 17, 1924, in Leipsic, IN, she was the daughter of Everrett and Lola (Durnill) Henderson.  She married Clinton Rominger, and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Anna Rominger Lisak of Crown Point, IN, and Gayle Rominger Henighan of Dayton, OH; two grandchildren, and one nephew.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford Henderson and Robert Henderson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ruth Circle.

There will be a memorial service for Agnes Rominger at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22nd, at the First United Methodist Church.  Burial will be at Ames Chapel Cemetery in French Lick, IN.  Friends may call from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and may attend graveside committal services following visitation at the Ames Chapel Cemetery.  The Rominger family will be at the funeral home Monday from 1-3 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Women's Group or to the charity of the donor's choice.


Doris McDonald

Doris June McDonald, age 96, Wabash, Indiana, passed away at 11:38 AM, Friday, October 5, 2012 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She was born on June 5, 1916 in Orange County, Indiana to Charles and Ruby (Rawlings) Stalcup. She married Cecil Rex McDonald on November 17, 1951 in Ellettsville, Indiana and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1992.

Doris was a graduate of Hanover College in 1937 and then graduated from Ball State with a Masters Degree in 1966. She retired in 1981 from Wabash High School after teaching for 26 years there. She also taught at LaGrange County, Columbia City and Martinsville, Indiana before moving to Wabash in 1952. She taught for a total of 43 years as a Physical Education, Math and a Guidance Counselor. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Wabash. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Wabash County Hospital Auxiliary, AARP Garden Club, Lantern Club, Woman’s Club House, United Methodist Women and the Lydia Circle all in Wabash.

She is survived by a son, Terry McDonald (Carol) of Wabash, a daughter, Mrs. Norma VanLoon of Gaston, Indiana, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Gene McDonald, grandson, Steve VanLoon, brother, Loren G. Stalcup and a sister, Imogene Galyan.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church, 477 N Wabash Street, Wabash, IN 46992 with Pastor Phillip Lake officiating. Interment will be at Ames Chapel Cemetery, Paoli, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, Indiana 46992 with one hour prior to the service at the church.

David Lyons

David Stanley Lyons of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 19, 1998, at Hospitality House.   Born on November 7, 1930, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Hovey D. and Gertrude (Keynon) Lyons.  He married Dorothy Russo on March 5, 1949, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Marsha Kern of Bedford, IN, and Valerie Hester of Crawfordsville, IN; one sister, Shirley Harris of Fayetteville, N.C.; one aunt, Mattie Tannehill of Dayton, OH; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lorenda Lyons; one brother, Noel Jack Lyons; and one step-brother, Hovey Ray Lyons.

He head retired from General Motors Powertrain in 1980 and was a member of the United Auto Worker Local 550 and the American Association of Retired Persons.  He attended Old Union Christian Church.

Services for David Lyons will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 22nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Josh Brumfield officiating.   Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Day and Carter Mortuary.


Patricia Meehan 

Patricia Joan Meehan, age 77, of French Lick, Indiana, passed away at 2:04 AM, on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Medco Health and Rehab Center, French Lick.


Joan was born on June 12, 1935 in Orange County, Indiana to Ellsworth and Velma (Beatty) Parsons Sr. She married David Meehan on September 14, 1956 and he survives.

She was a 1954 graduate of French Lick High School. She worked at the Travelers Corporation in Orleans and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Cane Creek Christian Church in French Lick.

She is survived by her husband, David Meehan of French Lick, and one son, Craig Meehan also of French Lick. She is also survived by two brothers, Ellsworth (Junior) Parsons and Kenny Parsons both of French Lick. Three grandsons, Jacob, Jared, and Jonathon Meehan and their mother Lori Nicholson also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Eric Meehan, and two brothers, John and Mike Parsons.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Indiana. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, with Rev. Al Madden and Rev. Henry Beatty officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary and again on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the mortuary from 12:00 PM until the service time. Interment will be in Cane Creek Cemetery, French Lick.


Andrew Owens

 Andrew M. Owens, infant son of Paul and Gayle (Box) Owens of Bedford, IN, was stillborn Sunday, December 20, 1998 in Morton, IL.

Surviving with the parents of Bedford, IN, are five sisters, Tara, Brittany, Samantha, Kindra, and Alexandra Owens, all at home; one brother, Brandon Owens, at home; the paternal grandparents, Ronald and Jeannette Owens; the paternal great-grandmother, Ilene Shirack, all of Morton, IL; the maternal grandparents, Michael and Terri Box, Dr. Steve and Joyce Hammel; the maternal great-grandmothers, Jewel Box and Marilynn Fountain, and the maternal great-great-grandmother, Grace Pate, all of Bedford, IN.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22nd, at Pinhook Cemetery.  Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  There will be no visitation at the funeral home.


Larry Pendley

 Larry E. Pendley, 75, of West Baden, passed at 4:00 AM, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at his residence.

Larry was born July 15, 1939 in Martin County, Indiana, to George and Juanita (Nelson) Pendley. He married Carolyn June Zinkan on January 27, 1958 and she preceded him in death on September 9, 2005. He then married Peggy Tinkle on September 23, 2006 and she survives.

Larry has always loved the outdoors as he has always worked in the logging business owning Pendley’s Sawmill. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He dearly loved his wife, kids, grandkids and family. However, singing Gospel Music was his life. He was a member of the Natchez Church.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Pendley of West Baden, sons, Larry Matthew "Matt" Pendley of West Baden, George Vincent "Vince" Pendley of Lexington, Kentucky, stepsons, Elmer C. Gilbert of Ladoga, Ronald L. Gilbert of Paoli and Jeffrey S. Gilbert of West Baden, daughters, Kimberly Ann McCracken of West Baden, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Quinn of Shoals, and Judith May Chastain of Salem, fifteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Wayne Pendley of Shoals and Tom Pendley of French Lick, and sisters, Jane Archer of Shoals and Robin Purkhiser of West Baden.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, two sons, Anthony and George Pendley, two brothers Frank and Howard Pendley and one brother in infancy, Ronnie.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 25, 2015 at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, with Rev. John Moffatt officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Chapel Cemetery in West Baden. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2015 and again on Saturday, April 25, 2015, 9:00 AM until service time at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary.

George Moore

George Franklin "Frank" Moore of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 20, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.  Born on April 11, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of George and Majorie (Pruett) Moore.  He married Nita Carol Brown on October 4, 1969, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Tony Stigall of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Stephanie Ryan, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Ronald Moore of Bedford, IN; and four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Michael Moore; and one sister, Nancy Moore.

He was a Vietnam War Army veteran and an employee of the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane.  He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

Services for George Moore will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23rd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Leatherwood Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, Bedford.  Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.


Velma Purkhiser

 Velma Eileen Purkhiser, 92, of French Lick, passed away at 12:08 AM, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli. 

Velma was born November 25, 1921 in French Lick, IN, to Henry and Mattie Leora (Byers) Belcher. She married Henry A. (Jim) Purkhiser on May 1, 1937 and he preceded her in death. Velma had previously worked at the Springs Valley Corporation (Shoe Factory) and as a cook at the Villager Restaurant. She loved to work crossword puzzles. 

She is survived by her son, Jim Purkhiser of Hillham, daughters, Patricia Eileen Watson of French Lick, Alethea Denny of The Villages, Florida, and Sara Lewis of Scottsburg, nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Wilma Campbell of West Baden Springs. 

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, a granddaughter, Desiree Watson, a brother, Everett Belcher, and sisters, Selma Eastridge Wease, Delma Belcher, Elnora Belcher, and Myrtle Belcher. 

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, with burial at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick . Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary and again from 10:00 until service time on Wednesday . John Ball

John Earnest Ball of Danville, IL, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, December 20, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville.  Born on November 8, 1924, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of John H. and Minnie (Pipher) Ball.  He married Anna Frances Slaten on November 17, 1967, and she died August 16, 1995.

Surviving are two daughters, Angela Sneed of Decatur, IL, and Beth Ann Meneely of Salt Lake City, UT; his father, John H. Ball of Bedford, IN; five brothers, Leon, Charles, Henry, and Ronald Ball, all of Mitchell, IN, and Kenneth Ball of Bedford, IN, and James Walter Ball of Bloomington, IN; three sisters,  Louise Williams and Mildred Terry, both of Mitchell, IN, and Lavonne Callahan of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Earnest Ball, and his mother.

After forty years of service he retired in 1985 from Lehigh-Portland Cement Co.  He was a World War II Army veteran.  He was a member of Mitchell Church of the Nazarene and Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250, Mitchell.

Services for John Ball will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23rd, at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating.  Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Samuel Sanders

 Samuel G. Sanders, age 79, of French Lick, Indiana, passed away at 2:10 PM, Saturday, December 03, 2011 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center, French Lick, Indiana.

Sam was born on July 31, 1932 in French Lick, Indiana to Elmer R. and Victoria (Purkhiser) Sanders. He married Shirley Baxter on June 28, 1968 and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2008

He was a Korean War US Army Veteran and was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post #76. He was a self employed painter and construction worker.

He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Dalton of Milton, Kentucky, and Rebecca Wilson of French Lick, a step-daughter, Melinda Ann Toliver of French Lick, two step-sons, William Lance Toliver of Poway, California and Jeffrey Gene Toliver of Parsberg, Bayern, Germany, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, James Franklin Sanders of Browns Mills, New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, a brother, Jack Norman Sanders and a half brother, Earl Bledsoe.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick where the family will receive friends, Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the mortuary with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick. Burial will be at a later time at Ames Chapel Cemetery.

Dennis Sullivan 

Dennis (Ameba) Sullivan of Springville, IN, died Monday, December 21, 1998, at his residence.   Born on September 13, 1955, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Clavorn and Grace (Maxwell) Sullivan.  He married Tina Crane on February 2, 1996, and she survives.

Also surviving are one step-son, Travis Tarrants of Vincennes, IN; his parents of Bedford, IN, three sisters:  Lynda Slate and Beverly Bundy, both of Bedford, IN, and Marsha DeVol of Bloomington, IN; and three brothers:   Doug Sullivan of Florida, Gary Sullivan of Georgia, and Jon Sullivan of Bedford, IN.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Janice Margiotta.

He was employed by Dennis Hillenburg Construction and Front Runner and was a member of the First Christian Church.

Services for Dennis Sullivan will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Leslie Self-Dalton

 Leslie Ann Dalton, 37, of Milton, Kentucky formerly of French Lick and Orleans, passed away at 4:40 PM, Friday, May 23, 2014 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Leslie was born June 2, 1976 in Bedford, Indiana, to Jim Self, Sr. and Melinda Toliver.

Leslie had attended Springs Valley High School and had previously worked as the Deputy Treasurer of the town of Orleans and at the Orange County Clerk's Office. She thoroughly loved to go camping, taking care of dogs, NASCAR and working on geneology. She had been baptized at a young age at Beechwood Christian Church in French Lick.

She is survived by her father and step mother, Jim and “Momma” Rose Self, Sr. of French Lick, mother, Melinda Ann Toliver of French Lick, companion, Jeremy Hearn of Milton, Kentucky, sons, Dylan Porter of Bedford, Tanner and Bryce Dalton of Milton, Kentucky, and Mason Hearn of Milton, Kentucky, and daughter, Haley Hearn of Milton, Kentucky. She is also survived by her brother, James Self, Jr. of Bedford and sisters,Rebecca Sanders-Wilson of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Jamie Hays of Williams.

Matilda Mueller

Matilda M. Mueller of Bedford, IN, formerly of Chicago and Centralia, IL, died Friday, December 25, 1998, at White River Lodge.  Born on November 11, 1904, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Martin and Paulina (Haller) Nagele.  She married Herman H. Mueller, and he died in 1972.

Surviving are two sisters, Emma Korzen of Bedford, IN, and Wilhelmina Pearson of St. Genevieve, MO; eight nephews, four nieces, and several great-nephews and great-nieces.  She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers, and three sisters.

She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Altar Society, Silver and Gold Club, and the Homemaker Extension Club.

Services for Matilda Mueller will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Maxine Simmons

H. Maxine Simmons, 83, of West Baden, passed away at 4:10 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper. 

Maxine was born February 7, 1931 in Orange County, Indiana, to Cecil and Viola (Bennett) Lanham. She married Arnold “Gene” Simmons on December 24, 1948 and he preceded her in death on July 9, 1989. 

She was a member of the West Baden First Baptist Church and attended Peoples' Tabernacle. She was a past member of the LBOL at Red Quarry Christian Church and the French Lick Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed crocheting and was a fan of Cincinnati Reds Baseball. Maxine had previously worked at Tra-Vlers in Orleans and was co-owner of G and M CB Sales in French Lick. She loved spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her son, Randy Gene Simmons and his wife Peggy of Eckerty and grandchildren, Stephanie Fromme and her husband, Cody of Celestine and Regina Stevens and her husband Jon of Hillham, along with two great grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her brothers, Don Lanham and C.B. Lanham both of Paoli and sisters, Rita McCullough of Mitchell, Linda Kost of Seymour and Diane Hammond of French Lick. 

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, brothers, Bob, Elmo, and Kenny Lanham and sisters, Shirley Cecil and Brenda Lanham. 

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at T.L Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Rd., French Lick, Indiana with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Burial will be at Ames Chapel Cemetery in Paoli. Ted Bolding

Ted Bolding of Bedford, IN, died Friday, December 25, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on October 5, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Chester and Sarah (Dalton) Bolding.  He married Dorothy E. Stephens on August 22, 1953, and she died on July 8, 1994.

Surviving are one daughter, Robin L. Kirschner of Indianapolis, IN; and two sisters, Ruth Alexander and Catherine James, both of Bedford, IN.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Ted Bolding, Jr. and Clifton Bolding; one brother, Chester Bolding; and two sisters, Lola Bolding and Elsie Bolding.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Services for Ted Bolding will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December  28th, at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ron Sacco officiating.   Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Friends may call from 408 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.


Bobby Dean Terry

Bobby Dean Terry, 69, of Shoals, passed away at 6:40 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2013 at his residence.

Bobby was born May 1, 1944 in Charlestown, Indiana, to Harley and Lorena (Cleveland) Terry.

Bobby had retired as an auto mechanic from Penske Automotive after 19 years of service.

He is survived by sons, Danny Terry of Texas and William Harley Terry of French Lick, daughters, Becky Keefe of Mitchell and Lori Hammons of French Lick, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Terry of Shoals, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Kenneth, Carl, and Laverne Terry.

Aela Blackburn

Aela Younger Blackburn of Brooklyn Park, MN, formerly of Needmore, IN, died Friday, December 25, 1998, at the home of her daughter.  Born on May 20, 1918, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Remus and Lida (Stewart) Blackwell.  She married Lawrence Younger, and he preceded her in death.  She married Robert "Bob" Blackburn, who also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Howard Younger of Fayetteville; one daughter, Carol McKinney of Brooklyn Park, MN; two sisters, Freda Stewart of Ellettsville, IN, and Eva Hillenburg of Bartlettsville, IN; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by two husbands; one brother, Elmer Blackwell; and one sister, Avis Prince

She retired after thirty-eight years teaching in the Lawrenceburg, Ellettsville, Springville, Needmore, Bartlettsville, and Oolitic school systems and was a former reading supervisor for Monroe County Schools. She was a former member of Gulletts Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years.   A graduate of Indiana Teachers College, she earned a Master's degree and remedial reading specialist's license from Indiana University.  She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and the Indiana University Alumni Association.

Nora Gerkin

Nora W. Goebel Gerkin, 92, of Paoli, passed away at 1:15 PM on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Mitchell Manor.

She was born on July 14, 1922 in Silver City, New Mexico, the daughter of Daniel and Cora Del (Clark) Wiseman.

She was married to Jenner T. Goebel until his death, later married Delbert Gerkin and he preceded her in death also.

She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and was a farmer and homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Alton Goebel of Palmyra, IN; one step-son, Dennis (Ruth) Gerkin of Orleans, IN; two grandchildren, Ian and Raechel Goebel; two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; two sisters and two brothers.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Ian McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Orleans.

Shelby King

Shelby Merlin King of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, December 26, 1998, at his residence.  Born on February 25, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Idis and Cornelia (Tolbert) King.  He married Nahna Irene Hauser on July 3, 1943, and she preceded him in death on February 12, 1998.

Surviving are four sons, Gene, Kent, Vince, and Randy King, all of Mitchell, IN; two daughters, Tonya Gilbert and Annette Neely, both of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, John and Roy Ritchison, both of Mitchell, IN; and two sisters, Reba Barlow of Bedford, IN, and Louise Moore of Mitchell, IN.  He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Tim King; two brothers, and one sister.

He retired from Mitchell Transport after twenty-five years of service.  He was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ.

Janet Rainey

Janet L. Rainey, 68, of Orleans, passed away at her residence on Monday, June 22, 2015.

She was born on November 12, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of John and Vera Ilene (Stroud) Guthrie.

She married Ronald L. Rainey and he preceded her in death.

She worked as a certified nurse assistant for several years. She graduated from Bedford High School class of 1965.

She is survived by two daughters, Diatra Allen (Kevin) of Shelbyville, TN and Debora Deaton (Nathan) of Salem, IN; four sisters, Joan King of Noblesville, Mary Hembree of Orleans, Judy Bachman of English, Cathy Ryan of Sellersburg; two brothers, Jim Guthrie of Edinburg and Kent Hawkins of Bedford; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Gregory Rainey; five brothers, John, Charles, Joe, Wayne and Robert; three sisters, Marjorie, Bernadette and Patsy.

Cremation was chosen. Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.


Betty June Perry

 Betty June Perry of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on June 29, 1936, in Carthage, IN, she was the daughter of the Rev. Bruce and Alma (Maddox) Jordan.  She married the Rev. Elliott Perry on November 14, 1955, in Boston, KY, and he survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Perry of Elizabethtown, KY, and the Rev. Christopher Perry of Bedford, IN; one brother, C. Leo Jordan of Hodgenville, KY; two sisters, Neelenia Reynolds of Bedford, IN, and Joetta Fox of Boston, KY; one granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a homemaker and a pastor's wife. For twenty-four years she was the minister of music at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church.

Services for Betty Perry will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31st, at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Paul Mooney officiating.   Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, and 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.   Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.


Harry Curtis Jr.

Harry Curtis Jr., 89, of Orleans, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

He was born September 11, 1925 in Paoli, Indiana, the son of Harry and Hazel Curtis Sr.

After graduating High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He served as a tail gunner on a spd two man a hell diver plane. While on leave from the Marines, he came back to Orange County where he married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Brewer on March 17, 1945. They were married for 58 years.

He had many jobs over the years. He worked at his father-in-laws cross tie yards, delivered freight for Hall trucking and worked for Courier Newsom Trucking in Columbus, Indiana for several years.

He was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church, 67 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.

He loved spending time outside and doing projects around the house. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by one daughter, Melissa (Andy) Taylor of Solsberry, In.; three grandchildren, Curtis Taylor of Chicago, Ill., Olivia and Jacob Taylor both of Solsberrry, IN.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003 and his parents.

The funeral will be on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Orleans United Methodist Church with Ron Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Orleans with military Rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.

Friends are invited to visitation on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with a Masonic service at 7:00 PM.

Dorothy Craig

Dorothy L. Craig of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, at her residence.  Born on January 31, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Tanksley) Pruitt.  She married Harold J. Craig on January 30, 1930, and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1992.

Surviving are three sons, Jim, Gerald, and Larry Craig, all of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Linda Corbin and Martha Hollars, both of Bedford, IN; ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Charles and Robert Pruitt.

She was a homemaker and was of Protestant faith.

Jack Hill

Jack Arnold Hill, 88, of Hardinsburg, passed away on June 10, 2015 at 7:00 PM at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House in Bloomington, IN.

He was born on December 10, 1926 in Orleans, IN, the son of Arthur and Aleta (Bontrager) Hill.

He married Bonita Anderson on November 11, 1950 and she survives.

He was a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine for many years, attended Minnesota, Purdue and Yale, Ohio State Universities and Iowa State College. He received the Sagamore of the Wabash on Dec. 26, 1984. He was an Army WWII veteran serving as a Japanese interpreter. He was a member of the Old Union Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonita Hill of Hardinsburg, three daughters, Pat New of Ellettsville, Kate Hill of Hardinsburg, Diane Smith of Unionville; one son, Doug Hill of Paoli; one brother, Don Hill of Salem; ten grandchildren; eight great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Joy Stone, Cleo Rudd, and Eilene George, and one brother Lyndon Hill

The funeral will be Saturday June 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Old Union United Methodist Church in Orleans with Pastor Pat Sinnott officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Gladys Barlow

Gladys Barlow of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on January 13, 1911, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Ross and Chloe May (Box) Terrell.  She married Labon L. Barlow on October 10, 1928, and he preceded her in death on November 23, 1977.

Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Esther Melvin of Mitchell, IN; one son, George David Barlow of Oolitic, IN; one sister, Ruby C. Pace of Bedford, IN; fifteen grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Hillard Wayne, Charles Labon, and Herbert Barlow; and five brothers.

She was retired from GM Powertrain and was a member of the UAW Local No. 440.  She was a member of the First Church of God, the Church of God WCG and WCTU, the 700 Club, the Beacon Sunday school class, a former member of the sanctuary choir and a former Sunday school teacher.

Services for Gladys Barlow will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31st, at the First Church of God with the Revs. Alan Ree, Floyd Brick and Jim Woodward officiating.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the First Church of God.


Jewell Shuler

Jewell E. Shuler, 81, of Orleans, passed away at 7:10 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Mitchell Manor.

She was born September 10, 1934 in St. Charles, Virginia, the daughter of Paul Henry and Grace Mae (Mullins) Eagle
She married Howard Shuler on December 26, 1952 and he survives.
She worked as a receptionist for many years, was a member of Eastern Star and was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by her husband of Orleans; one daughter, Dawn Meyer of Orleans; two grandchildren, Danie Meyer-Parlapanis and Matthew Meyer; one great grandchild, Ianthe Jewel; three sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and one sister.
The funeral will be on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans. Burial will follow in Syria Christian Church Cemetery.

Michael Baker

Michael Wayne Baker of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, at the Orange County Hospital.  Born on June 6, 1948, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Mildred and Pearl (Voorhies) Baker.  He married Marvetta Kay Watson on December 8, 1973, and she survives.

Also surviving are six sons:  Mark Baker of Tell City, IN, and Michael, Micka, Phillip, Dustin, and Rocky Baker, all of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Pearl Puiddy of Bedford, IN, and Tessie Baker of San Diego, CA; four brothers:   Joseph and Kenneth Baker, both of Needmore, IN, and Herbert and James Baker, both of Bedford, IN; four sisters:  Elizabeth Fisher, Reva Munday, and Sharon Trueblood, all of Bedford, IN, and Dorothy Stancombe of Mitchell, IN; and four grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Baker in 1994; two brothers, Robert Dale Baker and Harry E. Baker; and two sisters, Mildred Louise Hillenberg and Susie Baker.

Anna Speer

 Anna “Billie” L. Speer, 93, of Orleans, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 8:02 PM at Paoli Health and Living Community in Paoli, IN.

She was born March 30, 1922 in Rich Hill, Missouri, the daughter of John William and Annice (Carnes) Miller.

She married Robert T. Speer on January 10, 1942 and he preceded her in death on December 7, 2000.
She was the co- owner of Standeford Insurance in Orleans for many years. She was a Member of First Baptist Church in Orleans. She was also a member of Tri Kappa, Eta Chapter, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved Orleans and Orange County!
She is survived by one daughter, Janet (Roger) Holland of Mitchell; one son, Bob (Charlotte) Speer of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Dane Speer, Darren Speer, Bradley Holland, Michael Holland, Aaron Holland and their families; twelve great grandchildren and two great - great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The funeral will be on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Reverend Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time.

Garrett Gootee

Garrett M. Gootee of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 29, 1998, at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.  Born on August 5, 1993, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Greg A. Gootee and Beth (Vanatti) Gootee Walker.

Surviving are his father of Bedford, IN; his mother and step-father, Beth and Robert Walker of Bedford, IN; one sister, Amanda Gootee at home; one step-brother, Robert Walker, Jr., of Orleans, IN; one step-sister, Haley Walker of Orleans, IN; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Ruth Gootee of Bedford, IN; maternal grandparents, Tim and Sue Vanatti of Brazil, IN; four step-grandparents:  Robert and Suzanne Walker and David and Nancy Armstrong, all of Bedford, IN; paternal great-grandfather, James Gootee of Loogootee; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Knox of Brazil, IN; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.

Mildred Crockett

 Mildred Elaine Crockett, 83, of Orleans, passed away at 3:14 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Paoli Health and Living Community.

She was born March 28, 1932 in Salem, Indiana, the daughter of Daniel and Myrtle (Maudlin) Holsapple.
She married Kenneth Crockett on June 10, 1950 and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1994.
She worked in the Orleans High School cafeteria for many years. She was a member of the Orleans Christian Church
She is survived by one son David Crockett (Cindy) of Orleans; two daughters, Melody Shipley (Jack) and Melba Moffatt both of Orleans; one brother, Melvin Holsapple of Arkansas; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, two brothers.
The funeral will be on Friday, April 10 at 10:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will be in Claysville Cemetery.

Marion Delpha

Marion Edward Delpha of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 29, 1998, at his residence.   Born on March 15, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Matt and Addie (Stewart) Delpha.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Ellen Delpha Earl of Bedford, IN; one sister, Blanche Webb of Bedford; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Henry Delpha, and one sister, Mary Carmel.

He had been a maintenance worker at the Greystone Hotel and at Indiana University.

Services for Marion Delpha will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Glen Duncan and Pastor John Dodd officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.


Charles Smith

Charles David Smith of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 31, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on April 4, 1952, in Bedford, he was the son of Winford O. Smith and Betty J. Anderson Ritchison.  He married Kathleen "Kate" Thompson, Bedford, on February 14, 1978, and she survives.

Also surviving are his mother; one daughter, Karen Elaine Smith, at home; three sons: David Wayne and Daniel Alan Smith, both at home, and Austin Otis Smith, Bedford; several nieces and nephews; maternal grandmother, Clara O. Anderson, Bedford; one sister, Betsy Sheetz, Bedford; one brother, Ed Smith, Bedford; three step-brothers:  Mike Ritchison, Decatur, Ralph and Nick Ritchison, both of Mitchell; and one step-sister, Terry Beaver, Bedford.  He was preceded in death by his father.

He was employed at A.O. Smith-UPPCO in Paoli, IN, and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, serving with the U.S. Air Force.

Services for Charles David Smith will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with the Reverend Bob Cherry officiating.  Burial will be in Lowder Cemetery.  Friends may call from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 1999, and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at the funeral home.


Oliver Dixon

 Col. Oliver O. Dixon of Indianapolis, IN, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998, at the Marquette Manor Health Care Center in Indianapolis.  Born on May 19, 1910, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Guy and Lola (Crawford) Dixon.  He married Grace Brooking in 1966, and she preceded him in death.  He then married Helen C. Currie, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons:  Max E. Dixon, Bloomington, and Stephen B. Dixon, Indianapolis; two daughters:  Patricia Hannigan, Mountainside, N.J., and Cheryl K. Kelsey, Poenix, AZ; a step-daughter, Annette C. Donegan, Indianapolis; two brothers:  Jim Dixon, Bedford, and David Dixon, Ferryville; two sisters:  Lucille Weaver and Ida Fay White, both of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

He retired after 31 years of services from the United States Army as a colonel in 1962.  He taught high school math in Indianapolis, Rossville, and Arlington, VA.  He was a member of the St. Luke's Methodist Church, Indianapolis, a 20-year member and past president of the Lions Club, Indianapolis.   He was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the American Legion, Indianapolis.   He graduated from Indiana University with bachelor and master degrees.

Services for Col. Oliver O. Dixon will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 1999, at Day & Carter Mortuary with the Reverend Albert Nonery officiating.  Burial will be in Pinhook Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Fort Knox Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Sunday.


Emmett Beyers

 J. Emmett Beyers of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 31, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on March 14, 1910, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Howard and Olive (Fish) Beyers.  He married Dorothy Taylor on April 16, 1933, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters:  Jacqueline Bailey and Kay Whitaker, both of Bedford,; a brother, Richard Beyers, California; and two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mae Fern McMorris and one in infancy; and a brother, Bill Beyers.

He was the former owner of the Gulf Service Station, Bedford, and owned and operated Beyers  Hardware.  He had also been a delivery man for Johnson Creamery and a salesman for Elmex Corporation when he retired in 1975.   He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Bedford, and served on several boards at the local level and was the conference delegate for the church for many years.  He was a founding member of the Bedford Jaycees and a three-term Bedford City Councilman.   He also sang in the Lite Line Quartet.

Services for J. Emmett Beyers will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 4, 1999, at Day & Carter Mortuary with the Reverend Reed Beard officiating.   Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 1999, and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday.


Jackie Wilson

Jackie L. Wilson of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998, at his residence.  Born on May 23, 1942, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of William E. and Nettie Marie (Hardwick) Wilson.  He married Wilma Tidd on April 22, 1993, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Sam Wilson of Mitchell; three daughters:  Kim Tuddy and Robin Wilson, both of Huron, and April Marcourt of Dayton, Ohio; three step-daughters:  Kelly Terrell, Glenda Parker and Iris Tidd, all of Bedford; a brother, William E. Wilson of Patricksburg; a sister, Nancy Duncan of Patricksburg; and 15 grandchildren.

He retired from RCA, in Bloomington, and attended Mitchell Presbyterian Church.

Services for Jackie L. Wilson will be at 1:00 p.m. at Haverly Mortuary with the Reverend Marge Braden officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. today and from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Sunday at the mortuary.


Dale Moore

Dale H. Moore of Bedford, IN, diedThursday, December 31, 1998, at his residence.  Born on January 1, 1939, in Monroe County, he was the son of Ollie and Mary Flora (Smith) Moore.

Surviving are a companion, Jayne Ripley; two sons:   Eric Moore, Bedford, and Herschel Donald Moore, Florida; three sisters:   Dorothy Spears and Delpha Brown, both of Leesville, and Jan Southers, Bowling Green, OH; and four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He retired from Otis Elevator, Bloomington, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bedford.

Services for Dale H. Moore will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.  Burial will be in the Linthieum Cemetery in Monroe County.  Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 33.  Friends may call from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 1999, at the funeral home.


Woodrow Hillenberg

Woodrow Wilson Hillenberg of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 31, 1998, at his residence.   Born on February 28, 1913, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Grover and Ethel (Clark) Hillenberg.  He married Eva Grace on April 7, 1934, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Bob Hillenberg, Pittsboro; two sisters:  Marie Stewart and Mae Williams, both of Bloomington; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Hillenberg, and one grandson, William Hillenberg.

He was a farmer and a mechanic.  He was also a member of the Judah Church of Christ and the Antique Car Club of Bedford.

Betty Brooks

Betty Jo Brooks of Bedford, IN,  died Wednesday, December 30, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.   Born on July 13, 1947, in Oakland City, IN, she was the daughter of John W. and Mary Francis (Kays) Brooks.

Surviving are her mother of Bedford; and two sisters:   Lois E. Marsh and Brenda Harvey, both of Bedford.  She was preceded in death by her father.

She had been an employee for 28 years at the Indiana University accounting department, Free Methodist Church, in Bedford, Monroe County Library VITAL program, and Indiana School of Automation, in Bloomington.

Services for Betty Jo Brooks will be at 1:00 p.m. at Free Methodist Church in Bedford.  Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, in Bedford.   Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and from noon until time of service Monday at the church.



Naomi Gowin

Naomi B. Gowin, 97, of Orleans, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 5:00 AM at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.
She was born October 31, 1917 in Perryville, KY, the daughter of Richard and Gertrude (Coyle) Best.
She married Mandaville “Pete” Gowin on June 24, 1950 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1990.
She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter Nancy Lattea; 2 grandchildren, Lewis A. Lattea III and Jennifer L. Lattea.
The funeral will be on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Ian McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

William Sprinkle

 William G. Sprinkle, 79, of Orleans, formally of Paoli, passed away on Sunday, February 08, 2015 at 6:20 AM at Paoli Health and Living Community in Paoli, IN
He was born March 4, 1935 in Paoli, IN, the son of Curtis and Ada (Chisham) Sprinkle.
He retired from Jefferson Trucking as a truck driver after 33 years of employment. He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church and the American Legion Warren Brock Post #69. He was a veteran of the Air Force.
He is survived by his companion for over 18 years, Carolyn Lindley of Orleans; one daughter, Cheryl Phillips of Bloomington, IN; two grandchildren, Ricky Phillips of Kentucky and Amanda Phillips of Illinois; one sister, Janice Shields of Arizona; one sister-in-law, Mickie Sprinkle of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sprinkle; sister, Mary Ellen Blanton; two brothers, Eugene and Stanley Sprinkle.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Reverend Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery in Orleans. Military Rites will be conducted by the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.

Ruth Ann Claybaugh

 Ruth Ann Claybaugh, of West Baden, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at 8:00 AM at her residence.
She was born in Lawrence County, IN, the daughter of Theo and Lula (Caraway) Porter
She married Bruce Claybaugh on August 23, 1964 and he survives.
She was a homemaker and attended Bonds Chapel.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Claybaugh, of West Baden; one brother, Sherman Porter(Pearl) of Bunnlevel, NC; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dennis and Eugene Porter.
A graveside service will be on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Bonds Chapel, with Rev. Robert Martindale officiating.


Lonnie Kent Thurston
March 4, 1945 - March 22, 2016

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held March 26 at 2 p.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Chapel for Lonnie Kent Thurston, 71 years young, French Lick, who entered into eternal rest on March 22 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick.

Born March 4, 1945, in Orange County, he was the son of Earl and Mildred Clements Thurston. Lonnie married the love of his life, Loretta Lewis, on June 6, 1965, and she survives.

Lonnie graduated from Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1963 and worked for Smithville Telephone Company for 47 years, where he was a supervisor, and retired in 2014.

Survivors include his wife of French Lick; two daughters, Sandi Rae Koehler and husband, Drew, of Huntingburg and Lori Renee Kendall and husband, Ben, of French Lick; one sister, Sanda Crisp and husband, Ron, of New Albany; and four grandchildren, Jazzlynn Leonard, Jalon Leonard, Benton Kendall and Abby Kendall.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Officiating the service will be the Reverend Doug Finney. Cremation was chosen. A private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be March 26 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
