James
was born
in Marion, Grant County, Indiana, the son of Virgil L. and Mabel I.
(Sloderbeck) Downing.
James
and Donna
M. Bockmier were married on June 6, 1948 in the Van Buren United
Methodist
Church.
He was a
member
of the Van Buren United Methodist Church and a resident of Van Buren,
IN
until 2002. He has worshiped with the congregations of the Orleans Mount Pleasant
Baptist
Church
and Orleans
United
Methodist
Church
since moving to Orleans,
IN.
James
was a U.S.
Army veteran of WWII, having served with the 773rd Tank Destroyer
Battalion
till it was disbanded, then with other units in the European Theatre.
He was a
member of the American Legion Brown-Doyal Post 368 and a member of the
Orleans
American Legion Warren Brock Post 69.
He is a
member
of UAW Local 977, having retired on September 1991 after 35 years of
service as
a die-maker at the G.M. Corp. CPC Group Plant in Marion,
IN.
He was previously employed by the Lynch Corp. and Daly Bros. Shoe Co.
He is
survived
by his loving wife and best friend of 67 years; one daughter, Beth A.
Hall
(Frank) of Orleans;
one son; James M. Downing
(Susan) of Orleans;
five grandchildren and spouses and eleven great grandchildren.
He was
preceded
in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Maxine McMillan and Mary
Evelyn
Mathias.
The
funeral will
be on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home
with
Reverend Michael Williams officiating with military rites conducted by
the
Orleans American Legion Post 69.

Dorothy
M. (Strange) Fisher, age 92, of Orleans, peacefully went to be with the
Lord on
Monday, January 25, 2016 at 5:50 PM at Paoli Health and Living
Community.
While, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends, all of us
are
eternally grateful for her faithful dedication to Jesus Christ and the
brilliant example she lived out daily.
She was
born
March 17, 1923 in Orleans,

the daughter of Raymond and Pearl
(Burgess) Strange
She
married
Burrell J Fisher on June 17, 1949 and he preceded her in death on May
1, 1977.
Dorothy
was
preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Jarvis, John Robert
and Donald
Strange, and three sisters Barbara Clifton, Julia Strange and Margaret
(Strange) Magner .
She is
survived
by one sister, Mary Lou (Strange) Limp, husband Ralph; one daughter,
June (Fisher)
Scott; one son, Gary Fisher, wife Dianna (Hackney) Fisher, as well as 6
grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a 5th great-grandchild on the
way.
She was
an
active member of Orleans Christian Church and a graduate of Orleans
High School
class of 1942

at
10:00 am with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating and she will be interred
alongside her husband in the Stampers Creek Cemetery. The family will

Fields
Claty "Jake" Fields of Mitchell (Huron
area), IN,
died Wednesday, December 9, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 22, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was
the son of Richard "Peck" and Maggie (Eagans) Fields. He
married Mildred Carpenter on January 11, 1941, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Harley
Fields of Westport, IN, and Phillip
Fields of Mitchell, IN;
one daughter, Sheryl Walton of Mitchell,
IN; one
sister, Emma Smith of Bedford, IN;
six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death
by four brothers, Charles, Harley, Richard, and Ray Fields, and one
sister,
Bessie Robertson.
He was a World War II Army
veteran. Early in his life
he worked in the stone mills in Lawrence County and
retired from
the Lawrence County Highway Department. He was a member of the Huron
Baptist
Church.
Services for Claty Fields will be at
11:00 a.m. Saturday,
December 12th, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bailey
officiating.
Burial will follow in Huron Cemetery.

Dale G. Tolbert, 54, of West Baden, passed away at
5:30 PM, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his residence in West Baden.
Dale was born February 2, 1960 in, Missouri,
to William “Ray” and Lois (Gardener) Tolbert.
Dale was a 1978 graduate of Springs Valley High School.
He also attended Vincennes
University
and Indiana
State
University.
He enjoyed
flying and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
He also
enjoyed studying astronomy. Dale had previously worked at Carpenters in
Mitchell, the Branchville Correctional Facility, had delivered paper
for
Times-Mail and worked for In-liner. He was a member of Bonds
Chapel
United
Methodist
Church.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Tolbert of Mt.
Solon,
Virginia,
spouse, Nora Tolbert of Bloomington,
daughters,
Danielle Chrisman of Paoli and Bethany McCracken of Paoli and three
grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie Tolbert of
Jackson,
Missouri and sisters, Barbara Moore of North Glen, Colorado, Phyllis
Roberts of
Mt. Solon, Virginia, and Bonnie Krabhenhoft of Deltona, Florida.
Preceding him in death was his father, William "Ray" Tolbert.

Robert “Bob”
Carter, 83, of Paoli, passed away on Monday, August 03,
2015 at 11:45 AM at his residence.
He was born on
January 13, 1932 in Mitchell, IN,
the son of Harry and Maude (Edwards) Carter.
He married to
Linda (Huff) Carter and she preceded him in death on Oct
8, 2003.
He worked at
Otis Elevator as a welder for several years.
He is survived
by three daughters, Diana Bollhorst of Mitchell, Jody
Faulconer of Paoli, Tara (Charlie) Watts of Paoli; and four sons,
Daniel Carter
of Scottsburg, Steve (Debbie) Carter of Orleans, Bryan (Bridget) Roach
of
Bedford, and Barry (Polly) Roach of Mitchell; along with Victoria Hill
with
twenty-nine other grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, and
one
brother; Gene Carter of Linton.
He was preceded
in death by his wife, parents, two sons (Jerald Carter
and Robert Allen Carter), one brother (William Carter), and two sisters
(Lois
Burke and Della Gilbert).

Lorena Mae Goen Coulter of Medora,
IN, died
Saturday, December 26, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born on
April 11, 1943, in Seymour, IN,
she was the daughter of Lewis
M. and Arietta Louise (Wilkerson) Goen. She married Stephen
D. Goen on
December 22, 1958. She married Arthur Coulter on March 16,
1968, and he
preceded her in death on August 11, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters,
Bonita McPherson and
Tamilla "Tami" Murphin, both of Medora,
IN; two sons,
Monte and Johnny Goen, both of Medora,
IN; one
brother-in-law, William E. Coulter of Gaston, IN;
four grandchildren, and
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her
husband, one half-sister, and one son, Dennis Dewayne Goen.
She was a certified nurse's aide at
local nursing homes and
was of Pentecostal faith.

December 29th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will

Elden
Lloyd Holsapple passed away at his residence on January 23, 2016 in Bloomington,
Indiana
at the age of 78.
He is
survived
by his wife, Betty; sons, John (Carolyn) of Indianapolis,
Indiana and
Aaron (Lynne) of Jefferson City, Missouri,
five grandchildren: Julia (Mrs. Ransford Walker), Kathryn and Cameron
Holsapple, Rachel and Lauren Holsapple. Elden was preceded in death by
his son
Scott.
Elden
was born
on April 24, 1937 in Lawrence County,
Indiana to Warren
and Ethel May (McIntire) Holsapple. In 1954 President Dwight D.
Eisenhower
presented Elden with the National 4-H Boy Achievement Winner award. He
graduated valedictorian of the Mitchell High School Class of 1955. He
was a
member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity graduating in 1959 from Purdue
University
with a BS in Agriculture. After meeting Betty Archer of Blockton,
Iowa on a
blind date they were married on
September 23, 1961 and moved to Decatur, Indiana
where he worked for the farm
loan division of Metropolitan Life Insurance. Establishing Holsapple
Real
Estate in 1963 Elden was self-employed selling, appraising and farming
in Kansas and Iowa.
The couple welcomed three sons into their home during their 54 years of
marriage. A lifelong member of the independent Christian Church,
Elden’s
treasures were his faith and his family

Jefferson St., Orleans, Indiana. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday,
January 31,
1:30 p.m. at Fishing Creek Chapel, 752 Bono Road, Mitchell, Indiana.

Betty M. Watts,
age 84 of West Baden Springs, passed away at 12:50 PM on Saturday,
April 14,
2012 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, Jasper, Indiana.
Betty was born on December 6, 1927 in Orange County, Indiana to
Roy Arthur and Lillie Mae (Howard) Land. She married Roy Watts on April
26,
1947 and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2011.
She was a 1944 graduate of West Baden High School
and a member of the Red Quarry Christian
Church. She loved cooking and especially making Sugar Cookies for her
family
and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Watts and his
wife Pam of West Baden, Fred
Watts and his wife, Pat of Jasper, Steve Watts of French Lick and Tony
Watts
and his wife, Keyly of French Lick, eight grandchildren and nine great

"Henry" Allen, age 59, of West Baden Springs, Indiana, passed away at

Henry was born on May 6, 1952 in Orange County, Indiana to
James A. and Mary Frances (Akers) Allen.
He had previously worked at Bill Moffatt Sawmill. He was also a member

French Lick American Legion.
He is survived by his companion, Dianne Waring of French Lick, five

Rita Jo Bough of Bedford

she was the daughter of John and Mamie (Marshall)
Krantz. She married Merle Bough on April 6, 1951, and he
survives.

and one great-granddaughter, Carrie
Flinn. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother,

She was a teacher at Lincoln

years, and a member of the First

Church
in Bedford.
She graduated with BA and MA degrees in Education from Indiana
University.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, President of North
Lawrence
Education Association for 4 years, president of American Association of
University Women for 4 years, and member of the State Teachers
Association.

Annabelle (List) Pinnick on June 25, 1950 and she survives
He was a
graduate of Orleans High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean
War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years of service.
He was
a member of the Orleans Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of
Indianapolis,
and a proud life member of the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock
Post# 69.
He was also an active member of the United
Methodist
Church
in Orleans.
He is
survived
by his wife of 65 years, Annabelle Pinnick of Orleans; one son, Greg

Pinnick of Mitchell; one daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Harms of Bedford; four

Anderson, age 61 of French Lick, Indiana, formerly of Anderson,
passed away at 5:00 AM, Friday,
March 16, 2012 at her residence.
Darlene was born on March 13, 1951 in Anderson, Indiana
to Edward Ray and Naomi
(Howard) Smith. She married Bruce Anderson on June 30, 1982 and he
survives.
She was a 1969 graduate of Anderson
High School
and received a degree as a Legal
Secretary from Ivy Tech in Muncie.
She and Bruce met when he owned the Golden Cadillac Restaurant and Bar
in Anderson.
She was the
secretary for the business as well as played the guitar and sang to the
patrons. She had also worked at Medco Center and
at the West
Baden Dome working in the flower gardens. She was a member of the
Wycliffe
United Methodist church and loved being outdoors working in her garden
and
raising her flowers. She also loved boating at Patoka Lake.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Anderson of French Lick, sons,
Lonnie
Marks and Joseph Marks both of French Lick, and Abraham Anderson of
Jeffersonville, along with her grandchildren, Chandler, Natasha,
McKayla,
Lakota, and Clarence. She is also survived by brothers, Robert Smith of
Eckerty, Kip Smith of French Lick, and Eddie Smith of Florida
and sisters, Esther "Rae" Saylor of Eckerty and Dawn Smith of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are several nieces and
nephews. She was
preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Wagner, Alma Reily, and
Stella, and
two brothers, Grant and Bruce Boyd.
A 1919 graduate of Mitchell
High School,
she had a bachelor's
degree from Central
Normal
College
and received the master's degree from Indiana University.
She taught fifty years in the Mitchell Community School.
After retiring in 1969, she served as librarian at the
Mitchell Public
Library. She was a member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church and
the United
Methodist Women. She was a sustaining member and past
president of the
Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa sorority, and a member of Fleur de
Lis. She was a member of the National, Indiana, and Lawrence
County
Retired Teachers Associations.

Helen was born on February 2, 1925 in Cuzco,
Indiana to Clyde and
Alice (Conrad) Nicholson. She married Richard H. "Dick" Asbell on
June 23, 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1992.
She was retired from Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of the French Lick American Legion Auxiliary and Bethel
Church.
She had worked on several election boards in Martin and Orange
County.
When she was able she loved to help out and visit with friends at the Orangeville
Community Center.
She spent most of her
life raising fourteen children.
She is survived by sons, Lee Asbell (Margie) of Shoals, Bill, Randy
(Yody) and
Donnie (Nancy) of West Baden Springs, Tim (Debbie) of Paoli and Mike of
West
Baden Springs, daughters, Donna Asbell of French Lick, Pam Asbell of

grandchildren
and thirty-six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister,

business. Since his retirement, he worked as a property manager and

adventure of life as best friends. On August 8, they enjoyed one last
dance
together. This is a moment and memory that is cherished by our dad and
family.
She was

class of 1966.
She is

Weikert, age 77, Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 2:53 AM on Thursday,
May 17,
2012 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, Jasper, Indiana.
Jim was born on August 12, 1934 in Dubois County, Indiana to
John and Elizabeth (Nolan) Weikert. He married Billie Lea Dixon on
August 11,
1962 and she survives.
He was a 1952 graduate of Dubois High School
and retired
from IMI as a Cement Mason. He was a member of the Crystal
Community
Church
and had served on
the Church Board for many years. He had also served as treasurer of the
Crystal
Community
Cemetery
and on the board of the Crystal Community Club. He was a 30 year member
of the
Local 692, the Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International
Organization. He
faithfully attended the Healthy Hearts Club and enjoyed gardening and
spending time
with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Lea Weikert of Jasper, son, Tom
Weikert of
French Lick, daughters, Kathy Hazelwood of French Lick, Denise Gutgsell
of
Celestine and Liz Workman of Jasper, ten grandchildren and five great
grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Weikert of French Lick, Harold

of Dubois, George Weikert of Lawrenceville, Illinois and David Weikert

Dubois, and sisters, Martha Emge of Martinsville and Mary Cobb of

teacher for three years in Lebanon, IN.
She was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church and

Beta Psi. She graduated from Orleans
High School
class of 1935 and from Indiana University
with a teaching and music degree.
She is
survived

Sue Flick, 76, of French Lick, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ
at 12:20 AM, Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation
Center
in French Lick.
Marlene was born March 18, 1937 in Orange County,
Indiana,
to
Oscar Ray “Bob” Case and Bessie Opal (Moore) Case.
She attended French
Lick High School
and graduated from the House of James Cosmetology School in New Albany,
Indiana.
She had owned her own beauty shop for more than 40 years. She married
George
Russell Flick on October 8, 1958 and he preceded her in death on March
26, 1999.
To this union they were blessed with two children David and Dianna.
Marlene was a loving mother, wife, daughter,
sister and grandmother.
Marlene
lived her life with Jesus, surrounded by family, friends, laughter and
fun. She
was influential in the lives of many and her legacy surpasses her life
in those
privileged to know her.
Marlene enjoyed camping, gardening, was member of
the BPW, and was a
volunteer
on many committees throughout her lifetime. One of the projects that
she had
worked on was the Community Christmas Project. She had attended Hillham
Church
of Christ in Christian Union as well as the United Pentecostal Church.
Cherishing her memory is her son David Flick of
French Lick, her loving
sister,
Judy Weikert and her husband Denny of French Lick, granddaughter,
Paige,
nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar Ray
Case and Bessie Opal
(Moore)
Case, her husband, Russell Flick and two daughters, Susan Case and
Dianna
Hardman.

Harriet Williams
Harriet Thelma Williams of Bedford,
IN,
died Sunday, December 13, 1998, at the Hospitality House.
Born on
January 14, 1905, in Mitchell, IN,
she was the daughter of Dennis
W. and Ora J. (Smith) Talley. She married George O. Williams
on June 23,
1923, and he died January 29, 1985.
Surviving are seven grandchildren,
twenty
great-grandchildren, twenty-two great-great grandchildren, and two
nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth
Williams; one
daughter, Geneva Kern; one brother, and one sister.
She was a homemaker and was a
life-long member of the Free
Methodist
Church
and the Missionary Society of
the Free
Methodist
Church.
There will be private graveside
services for Harriet
Williams at Green Hill Cemetery
with the Rev. Bob Carder officiating. The Day &
Carter Mortuary is in
charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation or
service at the

Robert Oyler
Robert
“Bob” Lorin Oyler, 87, of Orleans,
passed away after a brief illness on Monday, August 17, 2015 at
Mitchell Manor.
He was
born on
March 16, 1928 in Orleans, Indiana,
the son of Lorin and Berta
(Hardman) Oyler.
He was a
farmer
for many years and a member of Liberty Christian Church. He was an Army
veteran
of the Korean War. He enjoyed horses and playing gospel music. He
enjoyed
competitive barrel horse racing in his younger years. Over the years,
he played
music with others in Loogootee at the Opera House and various nursing
homes.
Prior to moving to Mitchell Manor, he enjoyed playing music at the
Orleans
Farmer’s Market every week. He never missed an opportunity to listen to
gospel
groups that would sing at Mitchell Manor.
He is
survived
by one niece, Judith (Ralph) Ikerd of Orleans; one step brother, Adrien
(Pauline) Kaserman of St. Petersburg, FL; one great niece, Liz (Jeremy)
Smith
of Orleans; three nephews, Jason (Amy) Slaughter of Parkville, MO,
Robert Ikerd
of Orleans, Drew Ikerd of Orleans; nine great great nieces and nephews,

He was

L. Flick
Born: January 10, 1924
Died: April 10, 2014
The
last surviving of the twelve children of George Amos and Lora King
Flick,
Virginia L. Flick was born in the Newton Stewart area where she lived
until
moving to French Lick during her High School years.
After
graduating from French Lick High School
in 1942, she married H. Parke Flick on
February 12, 1943 and they were happily married until his death on
August 19,
2008.
After
a month of illness and waning health, she spent her final days in the
IU
Hospice House in Bloomington
with her children and family by her side.
A
devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved cooking. She was an
avid
gardener who dearly loved beautiful flower beds as well as feeding and
watching
the birds in her back yard.
With
her husband, she owned and operated Parke Flick Clothier in French Lick
for
more than twenty years. A longstanding member of the French
Lick United Methodist Church,
she was active in
the United Methodist Women.
In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son
Parke
Kinsey Flick.
She
is survived by her daughter-in-law Sharon Johnson Flick and grandsons
Aaron and
Mark Flick; her daughter Liz and husband C. B. Charnes, grandsons
Cliff, Clint,
and Curt Charnes and their spouses Jennifer, Tara, and Julie, and great
grandchildren Grace, Olivia, Caroline, Kinsey, Madeline, Taylor and
Payton
Charnes; son Bill and wife Melanie, grandsons Josh and fiancé Amanda,
Ben and
wife Molly, and great grandchildren Gabriel, Ben and Lydia Flick.
She
loved the Valley and the people in it, and was especially fond of all
those who
helped and befriended her in so many ways including taking care of her
house,
transportation to church, and visiting with her through the years. The
family
wishes to express appreciation for the kindness of so many.
She
enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Dancing with the Stars, and the
Bachelor.
She regularly reminded her children that especially as you age, you
have to
find something to make you laugh every day, regularly reading the
comics and
clipping cartoons she found funny. Humor was so important to her that
toward
the end she looked around her room in the Hospice House and quoted
Oscar Wilde
“either this wallpaper goes or I do”.
To
Mom, Granny, Great Granny, we hope this made you laugh, you were
greatly loved
and will be sorely missed.

married Betty Byers on March 10, 2006 and she survives.
He had previously worked in furniture factories
and was known to

furniture. He also enjoyed fishing.

1923, and he
survives.

Joe'l was born on September 25, 1975 to Joel
Giardine and Shirley
Jean Lake. She

Cassidy on June 9, 2002 and he survives.
She grew up in Levittown,
Pennsylvania
and was a 1994 graduate of Pennsbury
High School
in Fallsington,
Pennsylvania
where she was a
proud flautist in the internationally known "Long Orange Line"
Marching Band. She attended Bucks
County
Community College
in Newtown, Pennsylvania
before working for Empire Blue Cross in Manhattan
and later Aetna in Philadelphia.
In Indiana
she assisted in the Dental Practice of Dr. Sills. Joe'l was a happily
adopted
Hoosier and most enjoyed her immediate and extended family and her
community.
She was anticipating entering her emerald green pickles in next year's
county
fair. Joe'l eagerly accepted the challenge of home schooling her adored
daughter, Bella. She also was very involved with her daughter with
Acorns to
Oaks Home School Coop, Keepers at Home, and 4-H. She is also a member
of
Dogwood Christian Church.
She is survived by her father, Joel Giardine of Levittown,
Pennsylvania,
mother, Shirley Lake of Martinsville, Indiana, and her loving husband
and
daughter, Patrick and Bella Cassidy of West Baden Springs. She is also
survived
by her in-laws, Jim and Judy Cassidy of Orleans,

adventure of life as best friends. On August 8, they enjoyed one last
dance
together. This is a moment and memory that is cherished by our dad and
family.

class of 1966.
She
is

Jeff was a 1977 graduate of Springs

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved
hunting and fishing. He had previously worked for Craftsman
Construction,
Jasper Lumber and the Lauth Group. He attended the Nicholson Valley
Christian
Church and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #76 in
French
Lick.
He is survived by his wife, Laquita Kearby of

Indiana.
She was married on October 31, 1941 to the love of her life, Raymond
Kerby, for
nearly 61 years before he died on July 25, 1998.
Eulah was very active at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church
where she taught Sunday School for nearly 50 years. She was a devoted
wife,
mother and grandmother, great grandmother and a wonderful neighbor and
friend
to many in French Lick and West Baden.
Eulah is survived by her sons, Richard Elwood
(Linda) Kerby of Hillham
and
Donald Carroll (Connie) Kerby of Paris, Kentucky and daughter, Cindy
Lou
(George) Kerby-Hinkle of Columbus, Ohio.
She is also survived by
five wonderful grandchildren, for whom she had immeasurable love and

AM, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at his residence.
Larry was born July 15, 1939 in Martin County,
Indiana, to George and
Juanita
(Nelson) Pendley. He married Carolyn June Zinkan on January 27, 1958
and she
preceded him in death on September 9, 2005. He then married Peggy
Tinkle on
September 23, 2006 and she survives.
Larry has always loved the outdoors as he has
always worked in the
logging
business owning Pendley’s Sawmill. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He
dearly loved his wife, kids, grandkids and family. However, singing
Gospel
Music was his life. He was a member of the Natchez Church.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Pendley of West
Baden, sons, Larry

Velma was born November 25, 1921
in French Lick, IN, to Henry and Mattie Leora (Byers) Belcher. She

Henry A. (Jim) Purkhiser on May 1, 1937 and he preceded her in death.
Velma had
previously worked at the Springs Valley Corporation (Shoe Factory) and
as a
cook at the Villager Restaurant. She loved to work crossword
puzzles.
She is
survived by her son, Jim Purkhiser of Hillham, daughters, Patricia
Eileen
Watson of French Lick, Alethea Denny of The Villages, Florida, and Sara
Lewis
of Scottsburg, nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 17 great

and was co-owner of G and M CB Sales in French Lick. She loved spending
time
with her family.

She retired after thirty-eight years
teaching in the

school systems and was a former reading supervisor for Monroe County
Schools.
She was a former member of Gulletts Creek Baptist Church,
where she taught
Sunday school for several years. A graduate of Indiana
Teachers College,
she earned a
Master's degree and remedial reading specialist's license from Indiana
University.
She was a member of
the Indiana State Teachers Association and the Indiana University
Alumni

passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
He was born
September 11, 1925 in Paoli, Indiana,
the son of Harry and
Hazel Curtis Sr.
After
graduating High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines.
He served as a tail gunner on a spd two man a hell diver plane. While
on leave
from the Marines, he came back to Orange County
where he married
the love of his life, Margaret Ann Brewer on March 17, 1945. They were
married
for 58 years.
He had many
jobs over the years. He worked at his father-in-laws cross
tie yards, delivered freight for Hall trucking and worked for Courier
Newsom
Trucking in Columbus,
Indiana
for several years.
He was a member
of the Orleans
United
Methodist
Church,
67 year member of
the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Warren Brock Post #69.
He loved
spending time outside and doing projects around the house. He
was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived
by one daughter, Melissa (Andy) Taylor of Solsberry,
In.; three grandchildren, Curtis Taylor of Chicago, Ill.,
Olivia and Jacob Taylor both of Solsberrry, IN.
He was preceded
in death by his wife in 2003 and his parents.

He married
Bonita Anderson on November 11, 1950 and she survives.
He was a
Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine for many years, attended Minnesota, Purdue and Yale,
Ohio
State Universities and Iowa State College. He received the Sagamore of
the Wabash on Dec.
26, 1984. He was an Army WWII veteran
serving as a Japanese interpreter. He was a member of the Old
Union
Methodist
Church.
He was an avid fisherman and farmer.
He is survived
by his wife of 64 years, Bonita Hill of Hardinsburg,
three daughters, Pat New of Ellettsville, Kate Hill of Hardinsburg,
Diane Smith
of Unionville; one son, Doug Hill of Paoli; one brother, Don Hill of
Salem; ten
grandchildren; eight great grand children.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, three sisters, Joy Stone, Cleo

He was the former owner of the Gulf

Bedford, and owned and operated Beyers Hardware. He
had also been a
delivery man for Johnson Creamery and a salesman for Elmex Corporation
when he
retired in 1975. He was a member of the Free
Methodist
Church,
Bedford,
and
served on several boards at the local level and was the conference
delegate for
the church for many years. He was a founding member of the
Bedford
Jaycees and a three-term Bedford City Councilman. He also
sang in the
Lite Line Quartet.

Lonnie Kent Thurston March 4, 1945 - March 22, 2016
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held March 26 at 2
p.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Chapel for Lonnie Kent Thurston, 71 years young, French
Lick, who entered into eternal rest on March 22 at Springs Valley Meadows in
French Lick.
Born March 4, 1945, in Orange County,
he was the son of Earl and Mildred Clements Thurston. Lonnie married the love
of his life, Loretta Lewis, on June 6, 1965, and she survives.
Lonnie graduated from Springs Valley
High School with the
Class of 1963 and worked for Smithville Telephone Company for 47 years, where
he was a supervisor, and retired in 2014.
Survivors include his wife of French Lick; two daughters,
Sandi Rae Koehler and husband, Drew, of Huntingburg and Lori Renee Kendall and
husband, Ben, of French Lick; one sister, Sanda Crisp and husband, Ron, of New
Albany; and four grandchildren, Jazzlynn Leonard, Jalon Leonard, Benton Kendall
and Abby Kendall. He was preceded in
death by his parents.
Officiating the service will be the Reverend Doug Finney.
Cremation was chosen. A private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will
be March 26 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
