Like a ship that's left its mooring
And sails bravely out to sea
So Someone Dear has sailed away
In calm serenity;
But thre's promis of greate joy
Than Earth could have in store
For God has planned a richer life
Beyond the Unseen Shore.
John
Newton Crowe was born to George W. and Catherine Jane Condra Crowe on
Nov. 11, 1861, near Tompkinsville, Ky. At the age of six years he
and his parents came to Orange County, Indiana, where he continued to
reside until one year ago. For the past year he has lived in
Washington County where he added many new names to his long list of
friends.
Grandpa, as he was better known by most people,
was married Dec. 7, 1882, to Rebecca Elizabeth Morgan.
Their companionship was destined to be short-lived, for she left him
after they had been together only eight years.
He
continued to keep a home for their four children: Clint, who was called
in 1941; Delbert and Della, twins, who remain to mourn his passing; and
Ella Elizabeth, who stayed with him only one year. Two unnamed
babies had preceded his wife in death.
In 1922, under to
pastorate of Elder Volney T. Trimble, God found His way into Grandpa's
heart at the Briner Springs Church of Christ. Since that time,
although he was not able to attend church regularly, he has been a very
steady worker for God.
For the past several years he has
been at home with Delbert and his family where he answered his Master's
call Jan. 17, 1948, aged 86 years, two months and six days.
Besides
the twins, Delbert and Della, he leaves one brother, Henry C. Crowe,
eight grand-children, eight great-grandchildren and many other
relatives and friends.
Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may knowhow frail I am.
Behold
thou hast made my days as a handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing
before thee; verily every man at his best states is altoghether vanity.
And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in Thee.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

21, 1907 she was married to John A. Jackson of this vicinity, and for
the past thirty-three years has made her home here, a dutiful and
helpful companion, a loving mother, a respected neighbor, a Christian
member of God's people, and a true and faithful friend.
Into
this home was born two children, Charles Walter, of this place, and
Louise of Indianapolis. With the husband and these two children
there remains today a step-daughter, Mrs. Ava Weeks, who always knew

In May 1904 under the pastorate
of Rev. Clay Trusty, she committed herself to a life of service for her
Master, and became a member of the Christian Church at French
Lick. Here she ever held her membership, yet for many years she
has worshiped with this (Methodist Paoli) church, accepting her place
and her duties in the church service and that of the Sabbath School in
that loving spirit of him who said:
"Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give to thee a crown of life."
And today she is rewarded with that Inheritance Incorruptible and Undefiled, and that fadeth not away.

We
are not forgetful of the many acts of kindness and the live and
assistance given our companion and mother in her many hours of
suffering. And to all these many friends who so kindly gave their
assistance and their sympathy at her passing, to the physicians who
labored so humanly that she might be spared to us, to those who so
remembered with beautiful floral tributes, to the funeral directors,
