Land Patents
This section's details of the holders of government land patents. The United States issued these titles from 1820 to 1908 through out the MidWest. They represent the first title holder to land formerly owned by the US government. Each section is mapped from the plat description. Each section contains 640 acres, which can be subdivided. By using this system of land description the exact location of each title can be determined.
One interesting result of plotting these titles is seeing who lived next to who. In the following maps the small squares represent 40 acres of land (a quarter quarter section). Each land holding details the Owner of the land, the date the land was purchased and the plat location within the section.
All data used in mapping these holdings is from the Federal Bureau of Land Management - Eastern States, General Land Office.
You may navigate around this township by selecting any section in the small township map. If the section isn't selectable, then that section doesn't have any records.
