These are children of Jonathan and Mary Ann (Painter) Kesterson. Sons Alfred and Samuel were killed in the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky, the largest Civil War battle fought in Kentucky. Jonathan brought his sons home and buried them on the family farm in Hall Township. George Wilson's "Historical Notes On Dubois County" indicates a Solomon Kesterson was also buried at the original location, and is so listed in Dubois County Genealogical Society Cemetery Inscriptions Book 7. The Genealogical Society inscription books were published after the Patoka Lake affected cemeteries were moved, and prior records were used where available in order to provide more complete burial information.
