Lick Creek News
This column was found in Tom McCart's scrapbook, no date given, but possibly 1892.
"After the fourth of March free trade will be a reality. The Demmies are jubilant over their recent victory and are shouting
'I want to be a Democrat
And with that party vote
So I can buy an English hat
And wear an English coat.
Our party is for free trade
The workingmen we've gulled
And honest labor we'll degrade
To please our friend John Bull,
Our mills and factories we can close
And all our workshops too:--
If we but prove true Democrats,
We'll have no work to do.'
Our stock buyers shipped a car load of stock Saturday. Mrs. Mathew GARDNER has moved into G.W. CAMPBELL's vacant house. Mr. and Mrs. John R. NUGENT, of French Lick, and J.A. BRUNER and family spent Sunday with W.H. PORTER and lady. Miss Clara WITTENMYER visited Mr. and Mrs. A.G. SMITH last week. Several friends cut uncle Sam JACKSON a nice lot of wood last Friday. Orangeville has, perhaps, more voters over 80 years of age than any precinct in the county. Among the number we noticed Uncle John WILSON, Abnatha BOLTON and Madison TOLIVER. --JOB"
