Obituary: LOVE, Joseph Boone, Springs Valley Herald 20 Oct 1927
Joseph Boone Love, 75 years old died at 8:00 o'clock Wednesday evening, October 12 of heart disease after a brief illness. Mr Love was born in Kentucky and came
to French Lick to reside many years ago. During his active life he was a carpenter but had been unable to work at his trade for several years. He is survived by
his wife Nancy C. Love, one daughter, Mrs Lily McDonald, of this city, and three sons, Harry, Harley and Earl.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon at Mr Lebanon. Rev. George Atkins conducted the funeral.

Springs Valley Herald (March 10, 1927) Obituary may perhaps have said before that, "Noble is the life of which nothing greater can be said after death, than had
been oft repeated during life," and 'twas just such a life that was brought to a close on Friday, March 4, 1927 when Sally Matherly Underwood passed to the great
beyond.
She came into the home of John and Marguerite Matherly August 22, 1854 in the state of Tennessee. She came with her father and mother, two sisters and two
brothers to Orange County, Indiana at the age of twelve years.
She was married to William C. Underwood August 8, 1875 and to this union ten children were born, four of which have preceded her in death.
She was united with the Church of Christ at the age of 21 years and as a wife and mother she lived her home and her children. He life was centered in their
welfare, and their varied interests were hers also.
Aunt Sally, as she was so widely known represented the mother-type of womanhood.
She delighted to help everybody. These characteristics have been the cause of many roses being strewn in her pathway.
On November 4, 1917, she was bereft of her husband, and these remaining years she and Marie lived alone, until October 1, 1924 her youngest daughter, Ruth
Beatty, passed from this world beyond her husband Glenn Beatty and two little daughters, Lucille and Geneva, have made their home with them.
Every available step was taken for her recovery, but to no avail, the constant and untiring efforts of Marie, who so patiently nursed her through these weeks
were unsurpassed, nothing was left undone, that she could do, but peacefully she slipped away, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 10 days.
Funeral services were held at Ames Chapel Sunday afternoon, March 6, at 2 o'clock by Bro. J. P. Davis and Bro. Porter Walls.

"Located 2 1/2 miles east of West Baden Springs on State Road 150. A methodist Church was organized here in 1870 by the union of two pioneer Methodist
groups, Smith and Nelson Chapels. Moses Ham donated 3 acres of land for the church and cemetery. Burials prior to 1880 have been moved from old burying grounds.
This cemetery serves a wide area. The cemetery was copied stone by stone by Denzil Wallace in 1990."

Land for the Church and the cemetery was donated to a Methodist group by John Moore about 1830. There are many old graves with field stone markers that have
no inscriptions.

Karen Hugo's transcription states, " Hillsboro cemetery is, located in the Southeast quarter of the section, and grown over with briars and bushes. A
pioneer log meeting house once stood nearby, all traces of it now gone. There are 33 unmarked graves. Earliest date inscribed is 1855."

(18) Shivley and Speer Family Bible "his Bible was published by the American Bible Society in 1855. It apparently started out in the Shively family, then was
passed to the Speer family. It eventually ended up in the possession of Edith Lane Bledsoe, who gave it to James Lane. It is currently in the possession of
Robert Lane, Terre Haute, IN. This transcription was done by Robert Lane. Even though this Bible had sections for marriages, births, and deaths, those recording
the data often ignored this and put the data where they felt was appropriate. I have transcribed the data just as it was recorded, with one exception - one of
the people who recorded data in this Bible used the word "borned", which I changed to "born". Also, I added explanations [in brackets] to some of the entries

#1. Note that in the 1860, Orange County, Ind., Jackson Township census, two LOVE families appear at approx the same time from Kentucky. These are the William H. LOVE family, and the John E. Love family. They appear between 1852-1854. There are 4 years difference in the ages of William H. and John E. This MAY suggest that they were brothers or cousins.
#2. According to the 1860 Orange Co., Indiana Federal Census, there were 26 LOVES found in Orange County at this time. 15 in Jackson Township and 11 in Southeast Township.
