Notes for David Hudelson:
This is an extract from the Desc's of James Huddleston/Hudelson who was in
Juanita Valley of Mifflin Co., Pa in the 1780's. James and his childred migrated to Nicholas and Bourbon Co.'s Ky in or about 1806, most of the family moved to Indiana from 1820 to 1830 settling in Rush/Henry Co, Orange Co, and Gibson Co.'s.
From R. Dale Hudelson who lived in Cassville, MO 65625 in 1978 who provided me with an extensive composition on the descendants of this family line.
David and his descendants moved to Orange Co., IN about 1820 settling in Paoli and just a few miles north in Orleans.
A number of descendants still live in the area. Much information on this family is from records collected and published by the Orange Co. DAR in the 1930's. Other records are from a booklet done on the Pipher Family published in 1966 by a Hudelson descendant. David's Will mentions his son James that was not listed in the original Huddleston Family Tables of 1933. Will recorded 6 Jun 1870, probated 1 June 1871.

Notes for Thomas Donnell Hudelson:
was likely about 5 years old when he was brought by his parents to Orange Co, so he grew to manhood on the frontier of his generation, He met and married a girl born and raised in the same community. Their children were born in this county, growing to adulthood while the community and nation were in the death struggle of the Civil War. Most certainly the two oldest boys served in the Union Army. and the lives of the women were also affected. Soon after the close of the war this aging father moved with several of his adult children, and his young minor children to a newer developing area known as Bates Co, MO, bordering on the western frontier state of Kansas. The family settled near the village of Adrian in 1867. the father died and is buried near Adrian on 31 Mar 1876. Lydia married Thomas in Orange Co, 6 Mar 1834, she was the daughter of John Elrod (b. 22 Nov 1784 Rowan Co., NC) and Nancy Millis (b. 21 Apr 1798 Guilford Co, NC, this family is listed in Quaker Records of New Garden Monthly Meeting, in Guilford Co, NC, but I believe the family name was Mills originally, and there is even more ancestral history available on that family name), both of her parents are buried in the "Old Union Cemetery, Orange Co, IN. They migrated to this community prior to their daughters birth, but she grew to womanhood in this area, She helped her husband establish a home in which they raised their 10 children prior to going to Mo. The mother spent her declining years of a long life in the bosum of her younger children who established homes and raised her many fine grandchildren in the Adrian, MO community. She died and was buried near her husband 8 Nov 1902

Notes for Nicholas Volney Hudelson:
He completed the local country school and while still in his teens, answered President Lincoln's call for the volunteer troops to defend the Union. Nicholas enlisted on 9 July 1861 and was assigned to Co. B, 24th Inf. under Col. Alvin P. Hovey. Co. B served in Missouri, then back east and joined Gen. Grants forces in Penn; then on to the battle of Shiloh. In this fierce engagement Nicholas received a small cannon shot in his right arm. that nearly severed it, caused his hospitalization for many months. In Nov. of 1862 he received an honorable discharge, free to go home for complete recovery. After the arm was finally healed it was about 2 inches shorter than normal. When his arm permitted he became a store clerk in Paoli, took himself a bride and continued to prosper.
Mary E. Albert his bride was the daughter of John C. Albert, from Penn. and Ellen E. McVeagh born in Paoli. Mary had grown up in Paoli and completed the local schools before her marriage to Nicholas. They had two sons in the next few years, and his business continued to prosper, but his pioneering and farming began to assert itself. In the year of 1874 this young family disposed of their store and other resources and moved to a farm about 3 miles south of Pomona, KS in Franklin Co. which is about two counties south of Kansas City, KS. This was a new and unpopulated land as they arrived, so they were able to buy virgin Prairie land very cheaply from the Indian Reservations, from the Railroad grants, and from the Federal Government. Nicholas started building what would become a sizable and prosperous ranch. He taught his growing boys the farming lessons he had learned in Indiana, then encouraged them to finish the local schools, and to complete the available courses in a new College at nearby Ottawa, KS. As each son became of age, Nicholas took them into the business as partners of N.V. Hudelson & Sons. They became producers and dealers in cattle, hogs, horses, mules, and sheep to make a market for the smaller farm producers of the area. They broke up the best prairie sod and raised most of the feed to support their large livestock enterprise. As the boys grew up, finished their education and became partners, they found it wise and profitable to help organize a local bank in Pomona, KS.
Eventually the boys helped in it's operation. As the parents grew older they withdrew from the enterprise and the boys assumed full operation. Nicholas died 22 Sep 1929 and Mary died on 17 Feb 1935 They are buried in the local Pomona, Ks Cemetery.

Notes for Robert Donnell Hudelson:
a Robert D. Hudelson married a Sarah Ann Chatham in Paoli, on 29 Dec 1880, but it must be another Robert as this data used here shows other wives, and seems to be more correct. Robert grew up in this community to about his 16th birth date, then with the call of adventure and patriotism he joined Co. K, 53rd Reg. of the Ind. Inf. His Army unit served in many battles with the Western Federal Army. close to the end of the war his unit became part of Shermans march into the deep south. One of his sons said his father would never talk much about his army service, because he was not proud of things he saw and had to do. This son also said his father would never allow any guns to be kept or owned by his sons while they lived at home. It's quite likely that Robert moved with his fathers family to Bates, Co, MO. in 1867, doing farm work there for a few years. In 1870 he visited Macon Co, IL and took work as a farm hand in Blue Mound Twp. He soon became acquainted with a young lady and after several years they made plans to marry and establish a farm home. His wife inherited her parents home where she and her husband make a family home for the children. Her husband and children laid her to rest along side her parents at an early age in the family plot. The father finished raising his large family, retired and saw his grandchildren reaching adulthood. bringing him great grandchildren, before his death and interment there 17 July 1925.

Andrew C. and Ida A. began their married life on a small farm 4 miles northeast of Paoli on a small farm where they spent most of their married life in this community. They attended church at Mt. Gilead, or sometimes called Sandy Hook Church. The Hudelson family attended church there and yet today the Hudelson children say it seems like their home church and they still love to go there. Nights were never too dark, weather never too bad, if anyone was sick or in distress or needed Andy or Ida, but what they were there to help in any way they could.
They were warm hearted and friendly to both young and old and the latch string was always out to anyone who came their way. No one was ever turned away from their door hungry. They would always divide what they had, whether it was little or much. They were a friend to all who came their way.
