The information below is found in a Bible inscribed * * "Presented to John N. Hatfield, Esq. by Julia C. Hatfield, October the 1st, 1883." The Bible was given John Hatfield shortly after the family arrived in Texas from Indiana by one of his daughters.

The lines beginning "Heirs" through "Lottie" were written in a column beside the column beginning "Elizabeth." Alson Johnson referred to in the final line was Jane Miller Hatfield's son by her first marriage. Susannah Hatfield's maiden name was Lockhart. John N. and Jane Hatfield and their five youngest children removed to Grayson County TX in 1882.
