David and Sarah's wedding services performed by John H. Bobbitt (Minister). Clerk of Court, John L. Migenity issued marriage license 12/27/1870.
SECOND GENERATION
2. Jonathan NEWLIN was born in 1789 in Alamance County, North Carolina. He died in 1860 in Orange County, Indiana. He was buried in Lick Creek Cemetery, Orange County, Indiana. Jonathan Newlin was William Newlin's brother. He immigrated from North Carolina in 1817. He married Mary LINDLEY in 1814 in Orange County, Indiana. Jonathan and Mary Lindley Newlin have a monument in Lick Creek graveyard in Paoli, Indiana
3. Mary LINDLEY was born in 1798 in Orange County, ?NC?. She died in 1845 in Orange County, Indiana. She was buried in Lick Creek Cemetery, Orange County, Indiana. Mary and Jonathan arrived in Orange County, Indiana, 18 months before Hannah (Lindley) Newlin arrived. Their homestead was southwest of Paoli, Orange County, Indiana. Jonathan NEWLIN and Mary LINDLEY had the following children:

On 9/28/1850, he was dismissed by Lick Creek Friends Meeting for "Marriage out of Unity" with Friends. On 2/5/1873, he and his wife Martha Jane and children were received into membership on their request.
ix. William NEWLIN was born on 3 Mar 1827 in Orange County, Indiana. He died on 26 Feb 1895. He was buried in Concord Meeting Cemetery, Orange County, Indiana.

4. James NEWLIN was born on 27 Apr 1747 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died on 15 Jul 1813 in Orange County, North Carolina (now: Alamance County). He was buried in Spring Meeting Cemetery, Alamance County, North Carolina. James was almost 21 year old, when Concord Meeting sent his certificate of membership to Cane Creek Meeting in North Carolina. James and Deborah met in the southern part of Alamance County, North Carolina, which be came Orange County, North Carolina, Reference: "The Newlin Family, Ancestors and Descendants of John and Mary Pyle", by Aglie I. Newlin, Guilford College, Greensboro, North Carolina. James is buried next to his mother and father Springs Friends Meeting Cemetery, Alamance County, North Carolina. His grave marker (stone) was from the ruins of the chimney of the John Newlin home. The will of James Newlin is printed in the: "The Newlin Family, Ancestors and Descendants of John and Mary Pyle Newlin", by Algie Newlin. page 573. He was married to Deborah LINDLEY on 22 Jan 1772 in Cane Creek Meeting Alamance County, North Carolina.
5. Deborah LINDLEY was born on 28 Jun 1753 in Orange (Alamance) County, North Carolina. She died between 1823 and 1830 in Lick Creek, Orange County, Indiana. She was the 2nd white child born in Lower Cane Creek Valley, North Carolina and was the first of the Lindley family to be born at Cane Creek, Orange County (Alamance) North Carolina. James and Deborah lived and reared their children overlooking Cane Creek from the north. Over the years his holdings were nearly 1000 acres.. After the death of James, Deborah (age 60) moved with her older son, Thomas and the rest of the younger children to Indiana Territory (1814-1815), five hundred miles west, to Lick Creek community of southern Indiana (Orange County, Indiana.) James NEWLIN and Deborah LINDLEY had the following children:
- i. Nathaniel NEWLIN died on 22 Feb 1882. Nathaniel and Hannah were reared on adjacent farms. Hannah was the granddaughter of Henry and Mary Fayle Holladay and a descendant of William Edmundson. Hannah died a few days after the birth of her 5th child, a premature baby, named for her mother. ii. Sarah NEWLIN died on 15 Feb 1819 on the day of the birth of her 1st child. Her marriage was cut short by the her death, at the birth of their first child. Their farm was located on the east side of Cane Creek and just above the farm that Sarah was reared. Joseph continued to live there after his 2nd marriage.
iii. Mary NEWLIN was born on 8 Oct 1772 in Orange County, North Carolina. Mary married John Quakenbush , son of Peter Quakenbush . It is likely the wedding was in 1791 as Mary was disowned by meeting 10/1/1791 for not conforming to the marriage regulations of Friends.
iv. Ruth NEWLIN was born on 2 Jul 1774 in Springs Meeting, Alamance County, North Carolina.
v. John NEWLIN was born on 8 Apr 1776. He died on 7 Jun 1867. John and Rebecca lived on the homestead established by John's grandfather Thomas Lindley. He bought it from his uncle Jonathan Lindley. John was one of the founding fathers of Guilford College, Greensboro, North Carolina. He was an honored citizen in North Carolina. Newlin Township, Alamance County, North Carolina bears his name. The 1850 census reveals he was the wealthiest person in Newlin Township. He owned several thousand acres. his investments included manufacturing and mercantile business. Guilford College prior to 1837 was New Garden Boarding School.
vi. Katherine NEWLIN was born on 25 May 1778.
vii. Hannah NEWLIN was born on 1 Oct 1780 in Orange Co., North Carolina. viii. Eleanor NEWLIN was born on 4 Feb 1785. She died on 20 Mar 1860. She was buried in Spring Friends Meeting Cemetery. It is assumed that the marriage took place in 1810 since Eleanor was disowned 3/29/1810 for not conforming to the Friends practice in marriage. Spelling on grave marker "Elenor". Don Hammond has picture of grave marker. She is buried at Spring Friends Meeting Cemetery, Alamance County, North Carolina.
ix. William NEWLIN was born in 1786. Newlin. William inherited 150 acres. On Sept. 27, 1817," he condemned his marriage out of unit Spring monthly meeting, Alamance (then Orange) County. On the same date was granted Certificate of transfer to Lick Creek Monthly Meeting, Orange County, Indiana. 1839 census, he and unnamed wife are listed, no children. 1830 Census he isn't listed. Orange County, Indiana. Vol. 7, Marriage Records, Probate Records, have the marriage of Hannah Newlin to John Cloud (believed Hannah widow of William).
x. Deborah NEWLIN was born on 9 Sep 1787. She died on 5 Dec 1852.
xi. Jonathan NEWLIN.
xii. Thomas NEWLIN was born on 21 Feb 1790 in Orange County., North Carolina. He died on 30 Apr 1877. He was buried in Honey Creek Cemetery, Indiana. On 12/11/1852, the New London Meeting (north of Indianapolis) received a certificate of membership from Lick Creek Meeting, for Thomas and Candace, and their 8 unmarried children. By the will made by his father in 1791, Thomas was given the homestead and 300 acres of land. Candace and Thomas lived in Orange County, Indiana for 29 years and 9 of their children were born there.6. Thomas LINDLEY III was born on 19 Sep 1766 in Orange County, North Carolina. He died in 1835 in Orange County, Indiana. He was buried in Lick Creek Cemetery, Orange County, Indiana. He was married to Miriam JONES on 14 Mar 1785 in North Carolina.
7. Miriam JONES was born on 5 Nov 1761 in Orange County, North Carolina. Thomas LINDLEY III and Miriam JONES had the following children:
- i. Thomas LINDLEY died in 1866 in Orange County, Indiana. He was born in Orange County, North Carolina. He was buried in Lick Creek Cemetery, Orange County, Indiana.
ii. Hannah LINDLEY was born in Orange County, Indiana. Daughter of Thomas and Miriam Jones Lindley. On 9/27/1817 William gave an apology to the Meeting for not conforming to Friends practice in marriage.

iv. Jane LINDLEY was born on 12 Jun 1795 in Orange County, North Carolina.

8. John NEWLIN, JR was born in 1716. He died in 1805 in Spring Friends Meeting, Alamance County, North Carolina.. John Newlin is buried at Springs Friends Meeting, in the southern part if Alamance County, North Carolina. John and Mary are buried under a cedar tree and it still stands tall, green and healthy after 200+ years. In 1930 descendants placed a marked on the grave, which reads, "In Memory of John Newlin & Mary Pyle". Grandfather and great grandparents immigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania 1688. His Will is printed on page 572 of "The Newlin Family, Ancestors and Descendants of John and Mary Pyle Newlin", by Algie Newlin. The document witnessed by: John Carter, Ann Carter and Hannah Carter. He was married to Mary PYLE on 13 Apr 1745 in Concord, Pennsylvania.
9. Mary PYLE was born in 1724. She died in 1790 in Orange County now--Alamance County, North Carolina. She is buried in Springs Friends Cemetery, Alamance County, North Carolina. iv. Eli NEWLIN was born in 1755 in Chester County., Pa. He died on 28 Dec 1789 in Orange County, North Carolina. He was buried in Cane Creek Meeting, Orange County, Indiana. v. Mary NEWLIN was born on 8 Aug 1763 in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
vi. Nathaniel NEWLIN was born on 11 May 1768 in Orange County, North Carolina. He died on 17 Dec 1867. He was buried in Bloomington, Indiana.10. Thomas LINDLEY was born on 25 Apr 1706 in Carlow County, Ireland. Thomas was married to Ruth HADLEY on 21 Oct 1731 in New Garden Month Meeting, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died on 14 Sep 1781 in Orange/Alamance County, North Carolina. His an estate probated in 1782 in Hillsboro, North Carolina. He was buried in Spring Friends Cemetery, Orange County, North Carolina. He died the day of the Battle of Lindley's Mill, one of the last battles of the. Revolutionary. War, He operated a water Grist Mill, known as Lindley's Mill. . Thomas came to Pennsylvania from Carlow County, Ireland, 1713. He was 7 years old.
