George W. Allen was born 6 Oct 1839 in Orange Co., IN near the Martin Co. border. He is listed in the 1850 & 1860 with his family. His father was William Allen and his mother Nancy (Stone) Allen.

He enlisted in the Civil War on 16 Aug 1862 at New Albany, Floyd Co., IN at the age of 22. He was in the 81st Regiment, Company F. He contacted his disability in Oct 1862 on the march after General Bragg. He was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corp. on 15 Feb 1864. He was in one hospital in IN, then transferred to a hospital in Quincy, Adams Co., IL. He was on kitchen duty in a Quincy hospital from 10 Mar 1863 to 25 Nov 1863. He was transferred to another hospital in Quincy.

He married Nancy Ann Trogdon on 30 Jul 1864 in Quincy, Adams Co., IL by John H. Holton, J.P. They lived in Quincy until the spring of 1866 then moved to Camp Point, also in Adams Co., IL. until Sep 1868 when he moved back to Orange Co., IN for one year, then returned to Camp Point. George was a farmer for a time, and also was a restaurant owner.

George died 10 Aug 1891 in Camp Point, Adams Co., IL. He and his wife Nancy are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Adams Co., IL. His parents continued to lived in Orange Co., and were buried in the Allen family cemetery, Northwest township, Orange Co., IN.
